A beautiful fictionalization of Hannah's story, and later Samuel's rise to High Priest of Israel.

Engaging and heartfelt re-telling of Hannah, mother of Samuel. Beautifully telling of her heartache and great faith, I admired Hannah so much for how she bore Peninnah's cruelty while her own heart was aching so. The author does a great job of capturing the longing and heartbreak in Hannah's life.

Only the first quarter of this book tells Hannah's story though, and I was happily surprised to read about Samuel and his struggles in the house of Eli, as well as the story of a beautiful young woman tainted by her father's sin.

Overall, a compelling and rich read that brought one of my favorite Biblical heroes to life in an even more heartfelt way.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Hannah tells the story of the mother of Samuel the Prophet. For many years, Hannah has been barren. Elkanah, her husband, is forced to take a second wife named Peninnah. Peninnah bears him many children. Through her faith with God, Hannah finally bears a son.

Hannah’s story has been one of my favorite stories in the Bible. It is a true testament of faith. Hannah, who has been barren for decades, has finally produced a son who would become one of God's greatest prophets. Therefore, I was excited to read H. B. Moore’s version of Hannah and experience a truly moving tale. This novel did not disappoint and was in for an emotional ride.

Hannah is a very admirable woman. She goes through many hardships and her faith is often tested. Through every obstacle, she becomes a stronger woman and is eventually rewarded. On every page, I felt Hannah’s pain. I could feel her heartbreak as Peninnah gives her husband the children she so desires. I could feel her frustration as she wondered if she would ever have children. It is only when she gives herself up to God that she is able to find her own peace. Thus, Hannah was very relatable and human. Her story made me cry many times. However, her ending was very satisfying and made me smile.

Overall, this novel is about faith, perseverance, and love. The message of the story is that God will test your faith before he blesses you. I found all of the characters to be fully fleshed out and realistic. I love the relationship between Elkanah and Hannah. They had a very touching love story. I thought the story was very well-written and was rich in detail. I also thought that it was a faithful retelling of the Biblical story. The only thing I did not like about this book was that it had some scenes that I thought were unnecessary. Still, it was a very short and heart-wrenching read! Mrs. Moore has written a stunning inspirational novel, and I can’t wait to read her take on a Biblical figure. I recommend this novel for fans of A Passionate Hope, The Song of Hannah, and Hannah!

This book was rich with history and fascinating in its detail. The author made some very interesting plot choices that made the story a testament to the power of faith and goodness. The story was wonderfully full.
The characters were well done and everything was obviously well researched, but it was missing a deeper emotional level I would have like to feel with the characters.

A moving tale based on the story of Hannah from the Bible. It gives the reader insight as to what life was like back in ancient times. As a woman and a mother, I could relate to the ups and downs Hannah had to go through. Definitely worth the read!

Another very interesting fictional account of women in biblical scripture. Moore is very thorough in her research and weaves in historically accurate details with her fictional details, done in a way that makes the time period, characters, setting, and details come alive from a time period over 1000 years in the past as best can be imagined and told from research but yet make it relatable and believable at the same time. While this book is titled after Hannah, the mother of the prophet Samuel, and does focus on her story of faith in becoming a mother and her journey through her marriage and motherhood, the story does also focus (more, in my opinion) on the romance of Samuel and Abigail. There is a list at the front of the book of the true historical characters and the fictional characters Moore added to the story. In this and Moore's other previous fictional biblical novelizations, there are many fictional characters to help tell the story and bring it to life, which broadens the scope of the story-telling to add more depth to the characters and their interactions with others not mentioned by name in the scriptures. The story is somewhat simplistic in a sense because of some lack of verifiable concrete details, but it still works to bring this small story from the scriptures to life and relatable to today's readers, which is what I enjoy about Moore's biblical fiction, while she still brings understanding to the small, minor details of what daily life would have/could have been like with the food, homes, work, faith, worship, etc. The worship described is during the time period of the Law of Moses, so it is also interesting to understand more of what that form of worship would have been like for the people during that time period, as well as how their faith shaped them, the struggles and temptations that they would have had that are still similar to those that we face today. While there are heavy details in this book, nothing is overly graphic or dark in how it is used in the book. Moore also adds humor, love, and friendship to the story, which is something that again makes it more real as a story and real people instead of just heavy, religious, sometimes hard-to-comprehend scripture. Another great addition by Moore to her biblical fiction books.

I enjoyed this book but I think it was more about Samuel and Abigail than Hannah. I liked that while the story took some fictional liberties it still stayed close to the biblical story.

I enjoyed this story of Samuel. It was so good that I couldn't put it down!
By the end of the novel I felt that I knew Samuel and Hannah and all the others a lot better.
H.B. Moore is a wonderful writer that does her research well and I am never disappointed in her stories! She has a way of drawing her readers into each of her stories that will sweep them away into another time and place. I definitely didn't want to come back to the present. This story made me love these characters all the more bc they definitely were real.
H.B Moore has shown how each character might've lived. She delivers a powerful story about forgiveness and 2nd chances.
I truly loved this story to the fullest.
I am giving this book 5 star's! I highly recommend!
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I loved this inspirational, Christian fiction, from H.B.Moore. It was interesting and woven together nicely. I loved the story of Elkanah, Paninah (Elkanah’s “1st wife”), and Hannah (Elkanah’s “2nd wife”). Paninah could conceive and did conceive children for Elkanah, but Hannah could not. She was barren or infertile. This made it very hard on Hannah and she was treated roughly by Peninah. It caused Hannah to make a vow to God and promise Him if He would let her conceive or if He would give her and Elkanah a child, she would dedicate the child back to Him. And the Lord answered her prayer. This is biblical that Hannah couldn’t conceive and that God answered her prayers and gave her a son. Also, that when he became of age, she took him to the temple to be brought up in the Lord and taught His ways. What isn’t biblical is the relationship between Samuel and Abigail after Samuel became a grown man. So I’m believing this is the fiction part of the story. I have looked and looked but can not find that an Abigail was Samuel’s wife, though Samuel did have a wife and two children. So you will have to read and see how you view this. I love the relationship of Samuel and Abigail. It was well written. The whole story of Hannah, Elkanah, Samuel and Abigail was really good. I enjoyed the book very much, but not being able to biblically read and verify the relationship and marriage of Samuel and Abigail threw me off a little bit. But it is Christian Fiction, so that maybe why. But I always like an author to stay biblically correct with the main characters. But it was really good and interesting. …..Thank you to #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review #HannahMotherOfAProphet with my honest thoughts and opinions.

This is a beautifully written story about Hannah the mother of the prophet Samuel from the Old Testament and how her choices influenced her children and even their friends. I loved being able to read about this time in history. Moore did an excellent job taking scriptures and weaving an interesting story to help readers feel and see the events. This is a book for those who enjoy reading Bible stories written in a story format.

I remember the first time I read one of H.B. Moore's biblical fiction novels. I was swept away in the beauty of the story and it was the same with this story of Hannah. Christians are familiar with the stories found in the Bible. Seeing the stories brought to life and expanded makes for wonderful reading. It allows the reader to "get to know" the people behind the basic stories. This is what I love about H.B. Moore's fantastic storytelling and the emotions brought out while reading.

The novel starts with Hannah as she's experiencing so much heartbreak from not being able to bear her husband a child. I also went through this heartache and could feel deep in my heart how Hannah felt and her deep desire for a son. Through her faithfulness and giving her burdens over to the Father, her prayers were answered and she was blessed with a child. Soon after Samuel's birth, the story shifts to several years later. We see Samuel as a devoted priest in the Holy Temple. We also see Hannah now as a mother of six and grandmother to many. I loved how her husband Elkanah still showed such love to her through the years of infertility and past that time.

I also loved how the story showed how devoted Samuel was to the Lord and how he took his responsibilities in the temple seriously. The war between the Israelites and Philistines is talked about but not shown in-depth, so nothing graphic. This part did showcase how Samuel became a leader of his people and eventually the High Priest in the temple. The novel also told of a love story between Samuel and a village girl named Abigail. This was a sweet part of the story and I loved the author's interpretation of what could have happened.

I hope readers will find the beauty and joy that can be found in this novel of sorrow, longing, family love, forgiveness, and devotion to God. I know that any Christian who loves Bible stories will enjoy reading the story of Hannah and her son, Samuel the Prophet.

uch a beautiful, tender, and inspirational story! A must-read for any fan of Christian fiction.

I was immersed in Hannah and Samuel's stories from the first chapter. I appreciated that the author stays true to the Biblical details but then weaves them together with a fictional account that really brings the Biblical characters to life!

I immensely enjoyed the dual timeline and multiple points of view. Hannah's faith is humbling as is Samuel's obedience to the Lord. The romance storyline between Samuel and Abigail was so sweet as was the relationship between Hannah and Elkanah. The beautiful messages about trusting in the Lord left me in tears. I feel like I understand the why behind the story so much more now as opposed to just the who and the what.

A delightful 5-star read that I look forward to reading again and again.

I received a complimentary copy of the book but a positive review was not required.

I love how H. B. Moore tells the stories from the Bible and this one did not disappoint. There isn’t much information in the Bible, just a few chapters, but I loved how she expanded on what we already know to give us an engaging story. I loved reading about Hannah’s struggle to have children and feeling for her. I loved seeing her willingness to sacrifice so much to have her greatest desire. I also loved seeing Samuel grow up and seeing the man of faith that he was. I gained a greater appreciation for this story as I read it.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

Hannah is a wonderful Biblical, historical fiction story. H. B. Moore has done her research and kept true to the Word, while infusing her own creativity to the tale of Hannah and Samuel. I love how the story starts when Hannah is older and then flashes back, telling the story from Hannah’s own perspective. Moore captures the dynamics and emotions that a woman in that situation may have been feeling while maintaining her hope in the Lord. Eventually, the story catches up to the present time when Samuel is serving in the temple as a priest and the sins of the nation are dealt with by God. I love the family dynamics of all the characters and the hope of a future through the power of redemption. A truly well told version of Hannah (and Samuel). I highly recommend for all lovers of Biblical fiction.

This book was so amazing! I loved getting to read it, especially right after getting to read the story of Hannah and Samuel in the Bible. It really made the whole story come alive for me.

The story opens with Hannah, she’s an older woman. And she tells her story to her daughter, Noa and her daughter’s friend Abigail. I loved the way the author did this. It seemed like Hannah understood what had happened better because of all the other experiences she had had through her life. Kind of like all of us, I guess. And that made her seem so much more real to me than she ever has when I’ve read her story in the scriptures.

I loved the way the author had viewpoints from so many characters in this one. Noa, Abigail, Samuel. This made the whole thing so much better.

This book is amazing! You really need to read it.

H.B. Moore had a gift!! I love her scriptural Fiction books. They truly help each story she writes come to life and helps me to have a better understanding. Hannah is no exception. I could feel all of her pain and sorrows as well as her joys. Definitely recommend!!!

I adore this author's Biblical/christian fiction. She has a way of making these familiar Bible stories come alive and it helps me learn more about the people they're about. The way she writes helps me see Hannah, Elkanah and Samuel as living breathing people and not just characters in a story.

Hannah waited so long, and went through much torment from her husband's second wife, Peninnah, before she was able to conceive and have children. Her faith in the Lord was so great she promised Him her son Samuel would be raised as a Nazirite from birth and would serve Him always, bringing him to the temple to be trained when he was just a child.

I loved seeing Hannah and Elkanah's family--their interactions with each other and their trips to Shiloh to visit the temple. I'd never considered the preparations that went into such trips or how arduous a journey it would be. I loved the way Elkanah loved Hannah--he truly loved her whether or not she bore him children. Not all men were like that at that time. I loved seeing both sides of Samuel--his teasing with his younger siblings when he visited his family and how much he cared for the Lord's temple and the sacrifices that the people offered there.

I loved the dual timeline and multiple points of view. I was heartbroken for Hannah at the treatment she received when she had no children and was amazed at her faithfulness and trust in the Lord. Could I have been that faithful and trusting? I highly recommend this book for all those who enjoy Biblical retellings and Christian fiction.
