YES!!!! Jeneva Rose has done it again. She shocked us with The Perfect Couple. Now she's floored us with One Of Us Is Dead.

Talk about dysfunctional friends. Are they even friends? I think it's really hard to tell. Likeable characters? Can we come back to that? But for real, some are very likeable and some you want to hit with a shovel. This book is unputdownable and very entertaining. Then just like her first book, when you think you have all the twists, she hits you again. No one can double twist like Jeneva!!!

The narrator was great as well. I could easily keep track of each character. She told the story in such a way that was every entertaining.

I love a good soapy dramatic book but this one was so OTT I couldn't get a good grasp of any of the characters at all. They didn't seem to have any depth to them or any more motivation to them than jealousy or greed. It was a bit too much for me.

This book was such a fun read for me. I switched between the audiobook and the eARC and I really enjoyed both. I love a book with rich people doing bad things and this was full of it from beginning to end. I also really enjoyed the multiple POV. The book doesn’t tell you who died OR who did the killing until the very end (literally like the last 10%) and i had no idea whatsoever so that was a fun reveal.

I really enjoyed the audiobook of this, the narrator was great and the different accents made it easy to differentiate characters.

Following her debut domestic thriller The Perfect Marriage, Jeneva Rose has shifted to the small town for her sophomore suspense novel One of Us Is Dead that follows the lives of several wealthy frenemies connected by their membership to the same exclusive beauty salon. Rose has created some really memorable characters in this one while constantly pushing the envelope with how over-the-top the insults and situations can get. If you are looking for a bitchier version of Steel Magnolias, this is definitely something to pick up.

Having read Rose's debut, I will say that this is definitely a little less suspenseful in terms of big reveals as so much of the book focuses on the different perspectives and the interactions between the women. Rose does a good job of combatting it through plenty of dramatic irony, giving space for the last twenty percent of the book to really just hammer home the twists. I personally would have loved a little more suspense and a little more mystery, but I still thoroughly enjoyed Rose's writing and I look forward to seeing what she does next!

Thank you to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing - Audiobooks for an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for a fair and honest review!

3.5! This was a fast-paced, perfectly enjoyable popcorn thriller that gave me Real Housewives, Big Little Lies, and any Lucy Foley novel vibes. This had multiple POVs and timelines (with excellent narrators to help keep things straight), a murder mystery with the added fun of not even knowing who was dead (hence the title). There was A LOT going on in this with many reveals. A lot were obvious, but there were a few WTF moments. The ending got me! I love a last minute twist that works.

First Off, I want to say thank you to Net Galley & Blackstone Publishing for sending me the advanced copy audiobook in exchange for an honest review of One of Us Is Dead by Jeneva Rose.

This was one of my most highly anticipated reads for 2022. I'm a huge fan of Jeneva Rose and have read all of her books so far in physical copy. This is my first audiobook and I plan on purchasing a copy for myself to re-read for details I missed while listening to the audiobook.

To begin - I wasn't super ecstatic. It started as the typical "mean girls" drama at a salon with an outsider infiltrating via rich husband needing her to keep appearances. The plotline seemed familiar and it was probably a solid quarter of the way through the book before I realized what. I'll let you decide for yourself there.

That's the only place I found the similarities. This book goes 100 different ways and kept me guessing. It's mildly spicy, LGBTQIA+ friendly, has a moderate trigger warning, and has so many twists and turns I have whiplash from them! I am not going to comment on any of the characters directly so other readers can make their own opinions - but each of them was well written and fed into the plot so perfectly. *chefs kiss*

If you're a fan of the "whodunit" with a couple of heavy subjects - you'll really enjoy this one. The end was absolutely satisfying and I just enjoyed every second of it.

Jeneva Rose has now become an auto-buy for me! This was a drama filled tale of a four wealthy mean girls. One was completely unlikable and others were tolerable. And their male counterparts could not be trusted! Jenny owns a beauty “club” of sorts where members must have mulitple services rendered each month in order to maintain their membership status. If someone falls below the beauty service threshold then they are no longer welcome at the salon. Each of the four women have secrets to hide from the others and are only concerned with their own well-being. I loved the snarkiness and the twists all the way to the end when it is finally revealed who died! Throughout the book, the chapters flip between the weeks leading up to the crime and the present with the police investigation. I would love to see this adapted to film!

Review of One of Us is Dead by Jeneva Rose

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This one is a wild ride packed with all the drama. Cheating spouses, murder, greed, hair salons, mean girls, you name it it has it. I listened to it and highly recommend the audio for this one. Most of the characters are despicable but refreshingly there are several very like-able characters in this one that you will find yourself rooting for. I enjoyed the overall plot and there were some good twists and a man overall satisfying ending though it seemed a touch rushed to me. She will remain an auto buy author for me.

Quick synopsis: Jenny owns an upscale salon in a southern Ga town. Her clients are a variety of extremely wealthy frenemies and Jenny has perfected taking care of their beauty needs as well as staying on everyone’s good side. But the secrets are abound and the truth about the seedier side of their town won’t stay buried for long.

Thank you so much to @netgalley and @blackstonepublishing for the advanced copy. This one is out April 26

Read this if...you enjoyed Big Little Lies and/or have ever had a "frenemy."

This novel alternates between the POVs of five very different women who are all in the same social circle. Shannon used to be the "it" girl until her politician husband left her for Crystal, a younger, more naive version of herself. Shannon doesn't take her divorce lightly and is bent on revenge. Olivia has been biding her time, waiting for Shannon's fall from grace so she can take her place as the queen bee. Olivia has no conscience and is willing to backstab anyone who tries to stand in her way. Karen is a real estate mogul with a postcard perfect family, but she can't get over the feeling that she's missing something in her life. Finally, there is Jenny, the black sheep of the group when it comes to her wealth. Jenny had to work for every penny she earned and started the upscale salon the women frequent.

These women all have secrets, which equates to some huge drama! There's lying, cheating, stealing, backstabbing, trash talking, murder-you name it! All the reader is told at the beginning is that someone has died, but it's not clear who, how, or why until the very end.

I started reading this one on my Kindle, but then switched to the audiobook and couldn't go back. There was a full cast that included some of my favorite narrators, and it was done so well! If you've never read Jeneva Rose, do yourself a favor and pick this book up as soon as you can! It’s out April 26th!

A big thanks to Netgalley, the author, and Blackstone Publishing for an ARC and ALC in exchange for my honest review!

I loved this book. The narration was on point with each of the characters. I love a audiobook with a full cast and this one was great! The story was great too. I was sucked in with the dual timeline trying to figure out who was even murdered! Then who did it! Such an entertaining read with a villain you love to hate and other less extreme more relatable characters. Overall, such a great read and I know it’s going to be a summer hit at our library!

Wow! This was such a fun and wild ride! The audiobook was fantastic with several of my favorite narrators. It took me a little while for me to keep track of who was who, but then I was hooked. If you’re a fan of any of the real housewives, you will enjoy this! I loved the multiple perspectives from Jenny, Crystal, Shannon, Karen, and Olivia. I couldn’t stop listening and because I wanted to find out who was murdered. The twist/ending surprised me and I didn’t guess it. I’m two for two for enjoying Jeneva Rose books. I can’t wait to read what she writes next!

A binge worthy read full of betrayal, sex and opulence.

One of Us is Dead is the perfect mix of pomp and circumstance with a select group of friends who each try to outdo the other in wealth and prestige in the community. They plot and scheme in the chairs at the local salon over mimosas.

The novel is read through multiple points of view from the women to the salon owner who recounts what led to murder. Add to these women are their equally pretentious husbands who encourage bad behavior.

This novel truly reads like a thriller and a binge worthy TV show mixed into one. We ALL enjoy diving into juicy rich-people drama. The pages simmer in catty behavior including the new “kinsult” - the compliment and insult mixed into one comment and delivered with a smile.

From its beautiful cover to the spider web of lies and deceit, take the time to indulge in this addictive, fast-paced read. One of Us is Dead is wildy entertaining. Thank you Blackstone Publishing for the complimentary copy.

Having already read and enjoyed the physical book, I think the audio was on par. The narrator was a bit stiff and not as in-character as other audiobooks I have listened to, but it wasn’t distracting me from the story. It was a perfectly average quality narration that got across a great story. The twists and drama sucked me in once again. Overall, I prefer the physical copy but the audio was perfectly fine. 4 stars.

What is it about rich women behaving badly that is so appealing? This book had me hooked from the start and I did not see any of the twists coming. I enjoyed it from start to finish and would definitely recommend this as a thriller on the light side. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫.

This book follows the lives of a very dramatic and petty group of housewives in Buckhead, where money flows freely and secrets are a part of daily life. Olivia sees herself as the queen bee and will do whatever she can to control the group, but the rest of the women are sick of her manipulative ways.

This was such a fun book! I loved the audiobook and that each of the women had their own narrator. I love books with short chapters and multiple POVs so this one was right up my alley. The characters were over definitely exaggerated but even through the eye rolling I was here for the drama. Definitely recommend for a quick & fun page turner!

This has nothing to do with the book but I want to point out [again] that the netgalley app adds a terrible echo to audiobooks that really takes away from the experience. I won’t knock stars off the book because it’s obviously not the authors fault but it really should be looked into.

If there could be a perfect beach read, this would be a contender! I loved nearly every second of this book and would wholeheartedly recommend it. The narrators were great as they unwound the story of greed and Glow and murder and it kept me guessing as to who would be the murder victim - though you totally root for one person's death from the beginning. Thank you to Blackstone Audio and NetGalley for this thoroughly enjoyable guilty pleasure of a book!

I have been getting into Audio books more and loved this one! The narrator was easy to follow and loved this story! Jeneva Rose is one of my favorite authors so this met all my expectations from her!

I think this one missed the mark for me a bit but was absolutely amusing. The narrators were great though.

As someone with extensive experience dealing with rich snobs, this was was almost TOO real which I guess is a good job on the authors part. The characters really did get me mad. I could feel my body cringing with every petty and awkward encounter.

I will say that it did keep my attention. The characters were over the top and everything you can imagine a house wife with too much money to be like. The story was fast moving and there were a good number of twists.

Overall, though, this just wasn’t a story for me. While I kept listening, I didn’t really care about what happened? I also predicted the ending once all our characters were introduced. I see that others said this was marketed as a Mean Girls suburban-wife edition, and I probably wouldn’t have picked it up if I knew that was more of the focus than the mystery.

I think the authors writing is great nonetheless, and I’d be interested to read another from her that wasn’t centered around rich white ladies with nothing better to do than start drama for fun and be petty as hell.

Pub date: 4/26/22
Genre: thriller, women's fiction
In one sentence: Jenny's exclusive Buckhead salon is a playground for a group of wealthy women - but not everyone will survive the game.

This book is soapy fun - like Desperate Housewives in book form. I loved getting to know this group of women and their many, many secrets - the reader gets each of their perspectives here.

Like Big Little Lies, we get the build up to a big event, and I was definitely surprised by what took place. Pour yourself a glass of wine and read this one on a Friday night in!

I read this book originally in text form, but then I had to check out the audio when I got an ALC. The narrators are great - their voices helped me stay immersed in the story, and it felt like they were gossiping with me at a boozy lunch. I'd recommend either the audio or the text.

Thank you to Blackstone Publishing for providing an ARC and ALC in exchange for an honest review.
