I'm a huge fan of Lori Wilde's books but especially her holiday books. I loved going back to cupid in The Christmas Back-Up Plan and The Cowboy Cookie Challenge was just another amazing holiday romance to knock it out of the park.

Roan Sullivan is a widowed single father raising his daughter, running a ranch and avoiding love at all costs. Trinity comes first, always. He didn't expect that he would find someone much less while Trinity was in the hospital.

Jazzy Walker was simply doing her job when she cared for Trinity but she couldn't deny the pull she felt towards Roan Sullivan. Bonding over his love of campfire cooking, he and Jazzy become closer every session. It would be a total bonus to beat Andi this time, but more than that Jazzy is happy to spend time with Roan. I loved this book so much, the small-town feel, the Hallmark vibe and Christmas cookies to top it all off. I cannot wait for Lori Wilde's next holiday romance, just like the ones before it, it's sure to be amazing!

ARC for honest review with no compensation Received from NetGalley 4 stars

The Cowboy Cookie Challenge is book 13 in the Twilight Texas series by Lori Wilde and another great read!

This is an age gap romance between young Jazzy and Roan 10 years older, a widower with a 4 yr old daughter Jazzy takes care of after her surgery. Sparks fly from the beginning but Roan feels he is to old for her.

What happens next will keep you turning the pages, wanting to slap someone up side the head, who’s more mature, childhood rivalry, sparks, romance and so much more.

A sweet, small town, Christmas book that feels like a warm blanket! For the most part, I enjoyed the characters and of course, the charming town of Twilight, Texas. There were moments where things were told instead of shown and other times, the dialogue was phenomenal and pulled me in.

Overall, it’s a delightful read that I’ll add to me “recommended holiday reads” list!

I was provided an ARC through Netgalley and HarperCollins in exchange for an honest review. If you like Hallmark Christmas movies this will be your vibe. The story is relatively low stakes and is a quick read. The characters are really sweet, I especially enjoyed the medical staff's interactions with the children in the hospital.

My big gripe is how both main characters felt really off, there is a large age difference (10 years) between them but the male MC still comes across very immature despite being a parent. Jazzy is in her early twenties and somehow Roan is the first person to ever give her an orgasm, which came across quite cringey, especially given how the way he's portrayed makes him seem much older than his early thirties. There are also quite a few questionable choices with outdated references and phrases.

If you want something light and fluffy you'll enjoy this! It wasn't necessarily for me which was disappointing since I've enjoyed other books by this author, but I can definitely understand the appeal.

Loved this Christmas story. The story and the characters are great. Jazzy is so bubbly and was led to believe that was the reason her boyfriend had broken up with her. She is an eternal optimist. She is also very competitive. She and Andi have been competing with each other since they were in grade school. Andi always wins. Jazzy thinks if she can win just once, she might be good enough. When she hears about a campfire cooking bake-off, she just knows she will beat Andi this time. The trouble is, she doesn't know how to bake. The father of one of her patients, Roan, is a champion campfire baker but he wants no part of the bake-off. Jazzy convinces him to coach her. What she finds is love. Roan has been so closed off after the death of his wife and Jazzy isn't sure she will ever be able to help him get through that. Can they find a way to each other?

The Cowboy Cookie Challenge is Lori Wilde’s newest Christmas romance in the Twilight, Texas series. 23-year-old pediatric nurse Jasmine “Jazzy” Walker is love-shy due to her fiancé leaving her for another woman. Her nemesis, Andi Browning, is a previous winner of the town’s Christmas Cookie Bake-off challenge, so Jazzy decides to enter this year. She enlists the help of Roan Sullivan, the widowed 30-something father of one of her young patients. Roan won a popular TV cooking show and is a whiz at campfire cooking so he seems like an ideal partner. As the holidays near, the magic of Twilight starts to weave its spell and Roan and Jazzy’s push-pull relationship becomes love.

The Cowboy Cookie Challenge contains the grumpy/sunshine and age-gap tropes. Jazzy seems unusually mature for a 23-year-old, but she is an engaging character that the reader wants to root for. There are cameos from characters in previous Twilight, Texas books, so it can be confusing for the reader if this is their first book in the series. The story is well-paced and will be enjoyed by readers.

I received an advance review copy (ARC) from NetGalley and Harper Collins for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I will leave a review on Amazon and B&N on Oct 25th.

In this book we find ourselves back in Twilight, Texas Jazzy is a pediatric nurse who is constantly in competition with her rival Andi. Andi always does what it take to win, by hook or crook she is determined to win at all costs. The cookie challenge this year involves how to bake cookies over a campfire. Lol of course need Jazzy or Andi know one thing about cooking this way but that doesn't stop either one from entering the contest. What follows is a sweet storyline about falling in love, overcoming past hurts and looking forward to the future. I most definitely would recommend this book to others.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher Avon Books, I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a great holiday romance story. This is an author that I have loved reading from the first book I picked up by her. Her books are always well written, entertaining and hard to put down. This book is no different. I enjoyed how the author used her writing skills to pull me into the story from the start. A romance story that warmed up my cold night and put you into the holiday season. There is great growth of the characters as well as the plot throughout which made the story easy to read. This is a fast paced romance story that is hard to put down and had me coming back for more. I really enjoyed reading this book and what the characters brought to the story just added to it. I highly recommend this must read story.

This story has family, romance and Christmas magic. A great holiday read with a cowboy hero that is sweet, sexy and can bake! You can’t beat that.

Sometimes it takes a very special person to come along and bring you out of your grief, I think. Baking over a campfire in a dutch oven was a completely different Christmas baking experience also, which was fun! Roan and Jazzy were really struggling to get beyond their past relationships which always seems to be a struggle for people, but when you are honest it sure helps!

Sweet Small Town Romance!!

Jazzy seems to always come in second – or worse. Andi is frequently the catalyst for this; for instance her engagement to Jazzy’s high school sweetheart.

Jazzy has three weeks off before starting a new job as a traveling nurse. She is determined to beat Andi – in a cooking competition. But she definitely needs help. Roan has won some cooking competitions – with his wife as a partner. He has not competed since she passed away.

A sweet story of competition, resolve, wishing fountains and romance.

Jazzy wants to win a campfire cooking challenge instead of her nemesis who is now with her old boyfriend. When Jazzy meets Roan whose four year old daughter just had a minor surgery, she knows they can win the competition together. I loved this Christmas story and revisiting the Twilight Texas series.

You know that oooey gooey filling in some cookies that is on so good? The Cowboy Cookie Challenge is even better!
I melted during so many scenes and wanted Roan more than any cookie!
Both Roan and Jazzy have been hurt by love and think a quick no strings attached holiday fling will suffice. And the universe laughs. Because there are plenty of strings: Roan’s daughter, the cookie challenge, and the exes lurking about.
I did want Jazzy to knock that aggravating Andi into next week. The way she kept taking all the insults and put downs was too much. Yes, Wilde had her own way of dealing with the mean girl, but personally a punch early on would have suited this reader.

hThe Cowboy Cookie Challenge
Lori Wilde
October 25, 2022

In this novel we are back in Twilight, Texas with the crew from the hospital and the locals from the southwest small town. We find nurse, Jazzy Walker once again throwing her hat in the Cowboy Cookie Challenge ring. She will be up against nurse Andi Browning who firmly believes she can once again win the cup.
This year's challenge is more than a kitchen bake off. It will take place outdoors baking original recipe cookies over the campfire. Now Jazzy is not the best baker inside the house but she knows nothing about baking over the open fire, for that matter, neither does Andi B although she would never admit it.
Roan Sullivan’s winnings in outdoor cookery have his walls loaded with many prizes but since his wife, Claire passed away he has given up participating in contests. He runs his ranch and takes care of his 4 year old daughter, Trinity. She is his life. He still misses Claire although it has been 2 years since her passing. Jazzy has had the thought that perhaps Roan could coach her in outdoor baking. She has become friends with him since Trinity had her tonsils removed. Jazzy was her nurse. She and the young Sullivan have grown close. Roan refuses to help Jazzy but while helping out during a recent disaster at their home, he has started to change his tune.
The Cowboy Cookie Challenge will be released on October 25, 2022. The publisher is HarperCollins. This is book 13 in Lori Wilde’s Twilight, Texas series. I appreciate them allowing me to read and review this latest holiday treat via NetGalley. The happy go lightly tale takes us into the Christmas season with the strange group of characters that provide Twilight with a delightful comedic scene. Those who have followed Wilde’s Texas story will be thrilled with this adventure. Have fun reading and do enjoy.

This is the second book in the series and a great feel good Christmas story for the season. Jazzy is a pediatric nurse with a lifelong rivalry with Andi, another nurse who stole her boyfriend. Jazzy wants to beat her in the Christmas Cookie challenge…except she can’t bake so she recruits Roan to help her learn, a widower with a cute daughter.

I loved The campfire cooking plot was unique (I’d never heard of it) and so fun. I learned a lot about this type of cooking and how hard it is. I loved that it was a mostly lighthearted book for the season. Andi is a great villain of the book all the way to the end! Jazzy’s friend Charlie was amazing, like best friend anyone could ask for! Hopefully he gets his book next. Roan and Jazzy’s romance was great. It went slow as they both moved through pain of losing a loved one, past cheating and trying to be open to something new. I appreciated that Roan was the more vulnerable one in their physical relationship and seeing his process of moving on to the first woman after his wife.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc of this book.

The Cowboy Cookie Challenge (Twilight, Texas) by Lori Wilde
Roan Sullivan (single dad with adorable 4 year old daughter) meets Jazzy Walker (pediatric nurse) when his daughter has her tonsils removed. This is a cute meet where Jazzy needs to convince Roan to help her beat her ex best friend in a cooking contest. There is angst, loss of a spouse, and ex boyfriend, meanness, kindness, happiness, wonderful people and friends, laughter, tears, a great story and lots of steam to get to a very HEA.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Romantic Funny Happily Ever After Wonderful characters Tear-jerker Informative Steamy Great world building Action-packed Page-turner Easy-to-read Entertaining. I loved reading and reviewing this book.

When Jazzy enters a campfire cookie contest having never baked before, she turns to local cowboy/baking champion Roan for help. After both have been hurt by love in the past they're hesitant to see if something real could be blossoming between them. The Cowboy Cookie Challenge is a sweet story with loads of ups and downs, but this touching take on a Christmas romance is worth picking up.

This was a fun story. I was not familiar with the Twilight, Texas series previously but this book has made me want to go back and check out the other stories.

An engaging romance and cookie challenge. I knew the couple would have their happily ever after despite their issues, so the hook that kept me reading was the cookie challenge. Interesting event. I skipped over the amorous adventures to get the part I cared about. Sweet little girl added to the story. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
