I really loved Fear Not! by Christina Furnival. Fear Not! tells the story of a boy who deals with fear and anxiety and tells of ways he can combat his fear. I loved the practicality of the coping mechanisms that are in the book. I also loved the definitions of “fear” and “anxiety”. I also loved the message that it’s ok to be afraid and how it encourages the reader not to keep their anxiety to themselves. I believe Fear Not! is a great a book to read in any setting and a great tool to have when dealing who struggle with fear and anxiety. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.

This story was so good for my daughter who often experiences fear and anxiety! It was almost like a little self help book to help her name her fears and give her some tools to help her in situations when she’s facing fear. This story was really great because it was so easy for her and other young kids to be able to connect to. The illustrations are great and really keep the kids engaged in the story as well.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC

Fear Not! is a children’s book geared toward helping a child learn to understand where their fears come from and ways they can overcome them. It creatively explains what fear feels like, poor coping mechanisms, and tools to resolve those feelings. For a child with anxiety, this can also be a beneficial communication aid for helping them recognize and healthily work through their fear(s). I also felt the style of writing was well done, with appropriate rhyming and pacing. The graphics illustrated the tools and emotion beautifully.

🥺 Fear Not! is a great book for a parent to read to their child that deals with anxiety or worry some feelings.

💬 What do you do when you’re feeling anxious? Do you follow a routine to overcome it? I typically practice grounding techniques to clear my head as much as I can.

🥺 It’s inevitable that stress and anxiety will happen in a child’s life. We just have to do our best with equipping them with the right skills to get past those feelings and properly manage the stress.

🥺 Every parent should have this on their shelf for when that time comes to help their little one with big feelings.

I think this is a must-read for all parents and children. I love that the author makes it easy to understand and gives a child the tools needed for their toolbox that they will be able to use during all the stressors in life, even as they become adults. I wish I had a book like this when I was a child. I might not have had to pay for all the thearpy sessions as an adult!

This is such an amazing book for kids dealing with fear or anxiety. My son has progressively got more anxious due to the pandemic and changes that have happened since. I read this with him and discussed the steps in the book. They seem to be very helpful, he stated he wants to remember to use these when he feels anxious or fearful/worried. I think it will be a long term helper with my son to help him overcome his fears! Thank you for this!!

A young boy's journey on how he dealt with fear. That you are not alone in your fears when you share them with a trusted adult. What causes fear and how fear affects your body, mind, and your relationships. I appreciated how the book stressed not to keep your fears a secret. In sharing your fears, you become stronger and the feelings of loneliness diminish. Directing our fears is one way of coping and help us see the truth of our feelings. A great book to read with your children on fears and how to cope.

This book had a very good message. I learned so much about different steps to overcome my anxiety. I may not be a young child but this book helped me to learn what my anxiety is and to admit when I need help. We should all read this book and learn from it.

Many children ( and adults ) are paralyzed by the ominous fears and worries that overwhelm them each and every day. Parents seek answers to how they can teach their children strategies to dispel those fears and help them lead a more stress-free life.

Christina Furnial, a licensed mental health therapist and mom herself, gives answers in her empowering book - "Fear Not: How to Face Your Fear and Anxiety Head On."

This inspiring rhyming book follows a little boy who successfully tackles his fears and by doing so learns and puts into practise a very valuable life lesson. This helpful book teaches kids how to calmly and mindfully manage their emotions and move forward with confidence thus enjoying life and the new challenges it has to offer.

The illustrations are wonderful and enrich the positive message of the book. The author includes tips for parents at the back. I highly recommend it .

I was initially drawn to this book because I have a 6 year old who struggles with anxiety. We read this book together a couple of times over the weekend and we were both big fans. We have read other children books about anxiety, but did a great job describing what anxiety is and how it feels. I think it can be difficult for children to grasp and connect how they are feeling to being anxious. Also, I enjoyed that the author gave other techniques to handle anxiety besides deep breathing. Deep breathing is a great tool, but sometimes, in a moment of frustration and anxiety, it can be difficult for my child to actually do that. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. We really enjoyed it and I even planning on telling my son’s OT about it.

Tackling tough topics such as mental health can be a challenge for parents who may be unsure of how to voice in ways their children can understand and relate. This illustrated book walks the reader through identifying anxiety (referred to as fears) and giving tools and examples on how to cope. I enjoyed the flow of the words that made it feel upbeat and light while paired with illustrations who made these fears visible for readers. A helpful guide is included at the end for adults on how to continue the discussion and tackle questions that might come up.

A great rhyming book about fear and how we can cope with it. It is evident that it is written by a licensed mental health therapist as the suggestions on how to combat fear, worry, and anxiety are excellent (and doable). I think that this book can provide a great jumping off point for conversations around this topic.

This is a wonderful book that helps give children the tools they need to cope with fear and anxiety. I really enjoyed the way the author explained what does and does not work when dealing with fear.

The strategies of naming your feelings and breathing deeply, are coping strategies I try and use with my kids. They are also strategies I have read a lot about in adult self help books.

This is a beautiful story and in many ways a self help book for kids. My 4-year-old twin girls connected with the story and the illustrations. The discussion questions after were helpful as well.

This beautifully illustrated picture book normalizes and explains anxiety in a way that young children can relate to and understand. The book talks about what doesn't work, such as hiding your emotions and ignoring your anxiety and gives three steps, acknowledging the fear, remembering it will pass and using a tool/strategy, that will work to reduce the anxiety. the book ends with some information for adults working with children who are coping with anxiety. As a grade 3 teacher I think this book would be perfect for families of children struggling with fear and anxiety, especially in this post-pandemic world. I would recommend this book to teachers, parents and other support workers working with children in the 5-11 age range. I so appreciate Netgalley and the publisher giving me the opportunity to read and review this fantastic book!

Anxiety, fears and worries can be a plague on a young person's mind. How can parents, teachers and other adults help mitigate the negative effects, teach children coping skills and how to handle their worries? Furnival has created a book that can help open up a dialogue about these big feelings with little people.

Furnival validates the feelings of fear without placing blame or making the child feel shame about being anxious. Instead she shares strategies, age appropriate explanations and vocabulary, along with great illustrations, to make the concept seem less frightening and more understandable.

This story was both entertaining and educational, which can be a tricky balance to maintain in a children’s book, and I will be suggesting it to teachers whenever possible. Incorporating difficult to navigate topics such as this into children's picture books is a tried and true way to teach an important life skill in a way that is fun. This would be an amazing addition for classroom libraries, counselling offices and more.

Fear Not! is a beautiful book that perfectly explains fears. The vocabulary is simple and adapted to young children. They brilliantly used images and feelings that children can relate to in a way to convey the meaning of more complicated concepts.

I also want to point out that it sticks out from other books by not putting any blame or guilt onto the person feeling the fear. Fears are normal and they happen and are not something to be ashamed of. I appreciate all the messages and ideas promoted by this album.

As an anxious person, I would have loved to read this as a child, as it offers different ways to learn to deal with fears and anxious thoughts.

As an educator, I am looking forward to using it as a teaching tool and also as a reference to help students.

The book of how to face your fear and anxiety gives children good ideas on identifying their fears and ways to help relieve them in a concise, poetic way. It takes the mystery out of “why am I feeling this way” and “am I the only one that has this fear”? The questions at the end are very helpful conversation starters to have with your child. The illustrations are colorful and represent diverse people.

This book is listed on Amazon for ages 5-12. I think it’s more suited to ages 3-6 because of its simplicity. There are a few words though that younger children may not know the meaning such as cower and confidence, but the adult could address that at time of reading.

It’s a well-written book that addresses a topic of concern to every parent.

I received a copy for my review.
