Wow! I loved this one. I could not put it down. It was a juicy domestic thriller with a few things I didn't see coming. Of course, there were some things that required me to suspend belief, but it did not detract from the story. I also enjoyed that the book had two different sections told by different character perspectives. The ending was spot on for me. I had never heard of this author before, but I will definitely be following her and catching up with her other novels. I listened to the audio version of the book and the narrator was excellent. A definite recommended read!

As many of you have probably noticed, The Housemaid is getting ravings reviews all over the socials! My review will be a continuation of this parade of stars!

McFadden just didn’t stop with the twists and turns in this one. Just as I thought I couldn’t loath a character more, the door slammed and my mind was blown. This story will have you truly believing one thing and finding out that things often aren’t what they seem. I always love when a story has me craving the demise of a character. If you are like me, then this book is for you! Honestly, this book is probably for everyone!

Thanks to NetGalley, Freida McFadden, and Bookouture Audio for this gifted copy in exchange for my honest review!

What a twisted household. You’d think the posh end of the social sector would be very different, but it would seem evil lurks everywhere. A simple maids job, turns very dark. Millie gets wrapped into such a terrible life. The ending was a bit unbelievable - but it felt fitting.
I listened to this as an audiobook and I was really pleased by the narrators story telling style.

3.5 stars!

I loved the cover! The eye through the key hole really drew me in.

After a stint in prison and living in a car, Millie can’t believe her luck when she lands a job as a housemaid for a wealthy family.

Her boss Nina is unpredictable. She blows hot and cold and leaves Millie feeling confused and unvalued. But she has nowhere else to go. And Nina’s hot husband makes staying that bit easier.

Cue twists, turns and suspense! A little predictable but an entertaining and easy read!!

Wow! This was a great listen. It works so well as an audiobook. Listening to it really gave me a better insight than reading from the page

The story itself is gripping, you just can’t stop. You need to know what comes next and how things are going to end.

I gave The HouseMaid via kindle ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and I must say, the Audiobook was another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. The twists, the shocks, the last page 📄! This book, these characters, this plot, sent chills up my spine multiple times. Terrifyingly shocking.

The Housemaid is my second novel by Freida McFadden and I was pleasantly surprised by the story.

Nina, a glamorous housewife, Millie, an ex-convict turned housemaid, and Andrew, a handsome and loving husband, and father. Nice set of characters for a phycological thriller. Millie, desperate for a job, jumps into a very great opportunity. But she underestimates her new employees. With no place to go, nor people to help her, she has no choice but to stay employed at the Winchesters' home.

I was very impressed by the story and the twists that were spread out throughout the novel. Millie's character was very impressive and kept surprising me with each chapter. But don't forget Nina, I still can't decide if I feel sorry for her character or inspired by her patience and calculating skills. Although the theme of the novel reminds me a lot of Ms. McFadden's previous book "The Wife Upstairs", maybe it's the author's style of novels. Nevertheless, I've enjoyed the new book, and loved all the jaw-dropping twists the novel has thrown at me. I was literally on the edge of my seat during the last few chapters. The great ending, with a little cliffhanger, makes me think if we will hear about Millie in the upcoming novel.

Thank you, NetGalley for a free and advanced copy of the novel.

I should have run for it while I had the chance. Now my shot is gone. Now that the police officers are in the house and they’ve discovered what’s upstairs, there’s no turning back.

4.5 ⭐

My first book by Freida McFadden, The Housemaid, went for me even better than I expected. I liked how simple the writing style was and how everything – the narration, the pacing, the short chapters – flew together really nicely.

I also loved the story, it was everything a good thriller should be in my opinion. The ending was a bit predictable but it also had several elements that totally surprised me.

I’ve listened the audio version of this book. The narrator Lauryn Allman did a great job and only added to my enjoyment. If you can get The Housemaid as the audiobook, that’s what I would definitely recommend.

If you want to see my much more in depth review, you can check it out on my book blog NovelOnMyMind.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an audio ARC of The Housemaid by Freida McFadden in exchange for an honest review.

It began three months ago. Looking for a fresh start Millie accepts a job as a housekeeper for the Winchesters. Millie spent the last ten years in prison and finding a job hasn’t been easy.

The Housemaid is set on Long Island, in the Winchesters home, where Millie, the nanny, resides in the attic. The attic has a history. The attic is small with a slanting roof, a window that’s painted shut, and a door that locks from the outside.

What happened at the Winchester house? The Housemaid is a three part story where Freida McFadden shares the secrets of the Winchester family.

Freida McFadden created some crazy scenarios. Was is plausible for these circumstances to take place? It’s a tad over-the-top.

I’m certain readers have heard this premise before. The idea for the Housemaid isn’t new. A poor woman with a criminal past, takes a job as a live in housekeeper in a lavish home, an attractive businessman whose wife tries to get pregnant grows suspicious of her husbands interest in the nanny.

McFadden used her unique writing voice to recreate a story that has been written by a few authors. She put her own twist on a familiar storyline. McFadden has an interesting yet odd sense of humor. She leaves footprints of her personality in her books. I must admit this was different than I expected. It was definitely weird. Some parts were predictable but not what took place in that attic. That was an unexpected surprise. I’ve got to give props to McFadden for her unique take on The Housemaid.

I requested both the audiobook and ebook versions. I enjoy following along while the narrator plays out the scenes. I listened using the Netgalley app. Lauryn Allman narrates and performs the entirety of The Housemaid. Lauryn gave a solid performance.

Although this book is a roller coaster of a thriller, it a kind of macarb way, I also found it fun. Does that make me seem weird? Maybe but the few main characters are so larger than life and really quite extreme to make the story work so you really have to read or listen (if it's the audio version, which by the way I recommend) with an open mind. Nobody is quite what they seem! A good read and recommended.

I have got into audio books recently. This book is great in itself. Full of twist and turns. Has a great cast of characters and if you like physiological thrillers then this is very much for you. I enjoyed the audio reader and the style that they read it.

Wow! This was a crazy, twisted, rollercoaster ride of a thriller! I never was sure where this strory was going, but I was so happy to be along for the ride. My feelings about the characters I liked and disliked was constatly changing as secrets were revealed and lies were exposed. Even though it was a bit over the top, I was entertained and could not stop listening. The narration added an extra layer of intrigue and suspense to this tangled tale. This story definitely proves that appearances can most certainly be deceiving! Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for my audiobook.

Don't want to give any spoilers, the plot is very interesting and with a few twists and turns i had no idea where it was going. When the nanny sleeps with her client, everything takes a different direction. The book kept me guessing to the end and i thought i knew the characters and the situation they found themselves in quite well. Alll of the main characters had a past that was determining their future. Thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook to review.

Okay, the beginning of this one was rough. It wasn’t badly written, but the gaslighting of the protagonist was sooo blatant and irritating that I honestly wasn’t sure if I would be able to finish it. Talk about really selling the story! After that, though (around halfway through), we got one of those BIG twists that just had me grinning and absolutely loving the story. It reminds me of when I first read a couple of other thrillers/mysteries with delightfully unreliable narrators/characters (kind of?) and wasn’t expecting the changes. Lots of fun. I also didn’t see the final couple of twists coming, so that was great. I was pleasantly surprised by this story and would definitely check out another by the author in the future.

What a book! This is the first I have read of Feida McFadden, but I am hooked now, so it won’t be my last!

Millie takes a job as a housekeeper for the well-to-do Winchester family. Having little options, this job is the one thing keeping Millie afloat. Even when the working conditions become more harsh and a little strange, Millie is desperate to keep her job and grits her teeth to put up with the strange ways of Nina. Nina Winchester is well known for being a little high-strung, and people seem to go with the flow of her changing moods. To Millie, it seems that Nina is a little more than just high-strung, maybe there is something more sinister happening, but Millie is almost powerless to put any stop to the outrageous actions of Nina, or is she?

It is kind of hard to talk about this book without giving too much information. Probably better to just jump right in!

This novel goes from zero to 60 very quickly and doesn’t slow down. With the combination of thriller favorites: unreliable characters, major twists, and the threat of murder, this book is fully charged to hold a reader’s attention. Make sure to clear your schedule for this one, it is unputdownable!
I also had the pleasure of accompanying reading this novel with the audiobook version, which just added to the excitement. I found the narration to be clear and well done, making jumping from listening to reading seamless and enjoyable.

Millie is down on her luck, fresh out of jail, and looking for employment. She strikes the jackpot when she lands a job as housemaid for Nina Winchester, wife of millionaire, Andrew. But all is too good to be true, as Millie learns how unstable and unsatisfiable Nina really is. I didn't really like this book until part two. It was eerily similar to other books of the same theme (The Turn of the Key, Just Like the Other Girls, Behind Closed Doors, etc.) and started to really bore me. I said to myself "why doesn't she just quit?" one too many times. But part two gets a little juicier, albeit still unbelievable, and was enjoyable enough for me to finish. Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for my honest feedback.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to review The Housemaid by Freida McFadden.

I enjoyed this book. Over the first half, you see the red flags and can predict what's going to happen. You think you've figured it all out and that you are so clever. And then WOW! You've fallen into the trap.

The story's twist is excellent, and though you may struggle with the first section of the book, it will all be worth it by the end.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to review The Housemaid in advance of the national release.

This book was a pleasant surprise. During the first half of the book, I felt disconnected from the story. There were so many red flags, and the story progressed in a very predictable pattern, and then everything changed. I couldn't help but laugh because Freida McFadden had set the trap, and I fell for it completely. Bravo!
