Wow what a thriller and diabolical story line. This one will have you engaged and flipping pages to get to the end. Millie Calloway is living in her car. She is thankful for getting the opportunity to work for the extremely well-to-do Winchester family as their live-in maid. Nina Winchester (the lady of the house) is very temperamental, but Millie needs the job so she ignores Nina's extremely childish behavior. Nina's handsome husband Andrew is very tolerant of her tantrums, but deep down Millie can see his unhappiness and pain. Millie can't help but dream about what it would be like to have a life with fancy things and a devoted attractive husband like Andrew. Freida McFadden is such a fantastic psychological thriller author, I will checking out other books of hers! To be published in April 2022, make sure you grab a copy of this one and enter a world of an insane thriller!

Thank you NetGalley, the author and Bookouture, for allowing me to review this exciting new novel.

This was my first novel by this author and I cannot wait to read more. So twisted! I love a novel when I have no idea how it will end….

Andy and Nina Winchester have been married for years. Nina is a stay at home mom and Andy works. They live in a mansion and are very wealthy.

Nina hires Millie as a housemaid to help with their home and daughter. This is a live-in position is perfect for Millie. Millie is desperate to have a job since she has been living out of her car.

Nothing is every what it appears. This novel is full of twists and turns. Be prepared to be hooked from the first chapter.

This was sooooo good that I just devoured it in a day. Twisty, frightening, smart, and the revenge is so juicy. I have never loved and hated the same character so much... A must read for thriller lovers. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read the ARC of this.

he Housemaid by Freida McFadden pulled me in from the very beginning. I love how the author wrote the twists and had me believing one thing, when it really was a red herring. The ending blew me away! I never would have guessed it and absolutely loved it. Lauryn Allman was fantastic at bringing the characters to life with her voice. She really portrayed Nina brilliantly and absolutely had me convinced the character was nuts. I want to thank #NetGalley and #Bookouture Audio for allowing me to listen to this fantastic pre-release listen. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Wowza! Frieda does it again with a non stop page turner that engages you from the very first page. Full of plot twists to til the bitter end! Frieda McFadden is one of my top favorite authors and I always feel like I will crack the code, figure everything out before the end of the book and it NEVER happens!! All of her books are a must read but this one will be at the top of my list of recommendations!!

Nina and Andrew Winchester are a beautiful couple who seem to have it all but are in need of a and in need of a nanny/housemaid.
Millie is in need of a job in the worst way, living out of her car, she applies for the Winchester’s live in nanny position. Only problem the Winchester’s might have is that Millie has been in prison for the last 10 years and she’s on parole. But what did she go to prison for??? When Millie arrives at the house she is greeted with a gardener named Enzo who speaks only Italian but tries to warn her.

Millie quickly realizes that Nina is not the person she thought she interviewed with. After interviewing in a very clean house, Millie finds out that Nina is anything but clean! Day in and day out, Millie cooks and cleans up after a sometimes manic like Nina and her bratty daughter. Only person in the family thats cordial to her is the husband Andrew,A little too cordial to Nina’s liking.

Things aren’t as they seem. And what was that gardener Enzo trying to warn her about? And whhhy was Millie is prison? 😳😳😳 You will definitely enjoy this read!

WOW! This was nuts!

We meet Millie when she has been out of prison around a year. We know that she’s homeless and living out of her car. We know that she went to prison as a teen for 10 years, so I assume she’s in her late 20’s. We don’t know why she went to prison or why she was fired from her last job.

She interviews for a job with the Winchester family. She knows a background check could ruin this but she hopes that they’re too busy to check. To her delight, she gets the job. Nina had seemed so nice. This was her second chance for a good life! The job comes with a roof.

Upon starting her new job, she finds the family isn’t as perfect as she thought. Her attic room is tiny and it creeps her out. It locks from the outside! What is that all about?? Perhaps it was a storage room before.. Nina is really absent-minded and the kid is a bit of a brat. Luckily, the husband is really nice to her and they form a bond and a job is a job.

As they grow closer, she learns how imperfect this family really is.. but is it too late??

I don’t want to say too much and spoil it because the shock value meant a lot in this book. My mouth dropped several times. This is my first book by this author and now I want to devour them all! I’ve been missing out.

I got the audio and the narration was great.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the chance to read and review this!

I liked the twists and turns this book took - I did think it was going to end up one way and it ended another, which is really all I want in a thriller. The middle was a bit boring and dragged on but the beginning and ending made up for it.

I hated this book.I didn't like the writing. I thought this was going to get better when part 2 started, but the "twist "and the ending wasn't worth reading this.

Full disclosure - I am a Freida McFadden fan so I went into this knowing the book would be good and from the first chapter I was hooked. Her characters are always interesting and The Housemaid is one of those unique situations where I loved and hated each of the main characters at different times in the book. It's awesome when you enjoy the story, know for sure where it's going and how it will end, and are completely blown away when everything you thought would happen did not happen. I love the unexpected.

The narration by Lauryn Allman for this audio book was perfect. The accent of main character, Millie, along with her sharp, witty inner monologue made this one super enjoyable. Not sure laughter is expected in a psychological thriller, but McFadden made me laugh while also feeling incredibly stressed at certain plot points.

Highly recommend The Housemaid which releases April 26, 2022. And while you're at it, I'd also recommend you check out McFadden's previous work - you will not be disappointed.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to listen.

Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced audiobook copy.

I have never read from the author. I really enjoyed this book. Domestic thrillers are one of my favorite genre. The narrator did a great job. Easy to listen to.

This book wasn’t perfect. I had my issues with the main character Millie from beginning part 1. Other characters gave generic vibe from other similar books. But the plot make me keep reading this one like guilty pleasure.
Actually the story going more and more interesting and gripping my attention. Short chapter and fast pace make us can finishing this one in one sitting. And the author so generous with plot twists until the end.
It was still solid light reading experience.

Thank you Netgalley for providing me with this interesting ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley for my complimentary audiobook of the Housemaid. After reading the Maid by Nita Prose, I was in the mood for more maid thrillers. I appreciate it.

Nina Winchester is super crazy! She’s unhinged, psychotic and needs a reality check. I definitely thought she was gaslighting Millie from the start. I would’ve quit on day 1! Those are all things I thought when the story first opened. But then I started thinking, “is she really this way? There has to be some reason for it besides her being crazy.”

Andrew and Nina Winchester seem to have the perfect marriage. Andrew is wealthy is Nina is a stay at home mom of her daughter Cecelia. She has a lot of time on her hands, but she’s in search for a housekeeper.

Millie is released from prison for an undisclosed crime at the start of the book. She’s desperate to find a job and answers an ad for a live-in maid. It sounds too good to be true…

Nina hires Millie. Soon after, Millie meets Andrew and can’t help noticing how handsome he is. He’s also patient and kind. Books usually remind me of other books or movies and TV shows. This one reminded me of the Korean movie The Housemaid. It has a similar, crazy plot that I love.

The closer Millie gets to Andrew, the more insane Nina becomes. Millie thinks she’s jealous and irrational. Nina lashes out at her and blames her for messes. Millie tries to do whatever she can to make Nina happy because she really needs the job.

I’m not a fan of books with infidelity, but this book is definitely a lot more than that. I do love psychological thrillers. I could feel there was a twist, but I didn’t know the twist. I loved it! Then more twists and turns came up. I loved all of it. It was so creepy, disturbing and insane. I loved the ending. Someone definitely got what they deserved. I thought there could’ve been a little more explanation and wrap up at the end. There were some things brought up at the end that could’ve been explored more, but I was definitely invested in what was going to happen. I will definitely check out other books by Freida McFadden.

I would recommend the Housemaid to anyone who loves psychological thrillers and revenge stories!

This was riveting. I couldn't put it down. A real page-turner with terrific pacing. I loved Millie. She was a real breathe of fresh air and the Brooklyn-accented narrator was SUPERB.

At part 2 I started to feel very disappointed and thought I was headed into a repeat of The Next Mrs. Parish and a few others in the domestic bad husband-wife psych thriller genre, but was wowed and surprised at 85% when I found out the wife's plan was to have Millie kill her husband. I also was surprised and enjoyed the big reveal about millie's background and why she went to prison.

My only real complaint is the cover (and blurb) doesn't make sense to me and sets up the wrong/tone and impression for the book. If anyone is watching it's the gardener, not the maid. It is a bizarre choice, imho.

I received an ARC copy for an honest review from#netgalley.

I've heard so much about Freida McFadden and how great her books are but I've never read one before. So When I saw it on net galley I thought I would see if my request got approved. And it did!

And holy cats why did I not read a book by her sooner?!?

Millie was in prison for 10 years and is currently living in her car struggling to find a job that will hire a convict.

When she sees an ad for a live-in maid/nanny with great pay AND scores an interview she's thrilled. And then she's hired! Is her luck changing?

But while the man of the house is cool calm and collected, the MRS might just be certifiably insane. But is she?

Millie can't quit though, given her history finding a job is tough. And she's making good money with free room and board. Who cares if her tiny little attic bedroom gives her bad vibes?

This story is a while ride from start to finish and I cannot wait to read more by this author!

OMG this book was just flipping fantastic. Right from the prologue I was completely and utterly gripped. You know when you’re reading a book and you don’t want it to end but at the same time you want to get to the end to find out the outcome, well this was one of those books. An utterly outstanding domestic suspense thriller that I can’t recommend highly enough to fans of this genre. The Housemaid will be one on my top 10 reads of 2022 without a shadow of a doubt. Five massive stars.

WoW!!! The Housemaid by Freida McFadden Narrated by: Lauryn Allman, was a audiobook I did not want to end.
Blimey! What a roller coaster ride this was! it had me sitting on the edge of my seat! I loved it Superb book!
This was one of the Best audiobooks I have listened to in a very long time. The narrator I was not sure of at the beginning then I loved her and she was excellent for this audiobook.

“Welcome to the family Millie,” Nina Winchester says as I shake her elegant, manicured hand, everything looks perfect around me, WoW, I've landed myself a perfect job Mille says to herself!.
Or has she?
Soon, Millie learns that the Winchesters’ have big secrets and are far more dangerous than her own. Everyday Millie cleans the Winchesters’ beautiful house from top to bottom. She collect's their daughter from school. Then, I cooks a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor........

Millie tries her hardest not to swear etc as Nina just trashed all her hard work cleaning the house and making it perfect for the Winchester's everyday and especially how Nina speaks to her and always puts her down. Millie knows she has to be careful and not upset Nina as she was lucky to find this job as a housemaid with a criminal record, that she has hidden from them.

Nina's husband is called Andrew and is very handsome, a perfect husband, Millie doesn't understand how he is still with Nina putting up her awful moods and personality etc! There must be a reason why he is still with her!? and its not because of the child! WOW!

Just brilliant and excellent book and audiobook!

I highly recommend this book especially as Freida is a new author to me as well she is a fantastic author.
I will be reading more of her books in the future. Big fat 5 stars from me

Big thank NetGalley, Bookouture and the author Frieda McFadden for my ARC of The Housemaid in exchange for an honest review.
