This book delivers exactly what it promises: a meticulously researched indictment of the Republican Party’s decades-long campaign to undermine democracy. Kuhn, a veteran grassroots organizer, traces the GOP’s descent from Goldwater’s racism to Reagan’s gutting of public trust, through Gingrich’s scorched-earth partisanship, and straight to Trump’s authoritarianism, arguing convincingly that today’s extremism is the logical endpoint of a party addicted to power at any cost. The book’s strength lies in its clarity—Kuhn avoids academic jargon, distilling complex political maneuvers into sharp, readable chapters that connect past tactics to present crises, from voter suppression to the Supreme Court’s assault on civil rights.
Detractors will inevitably whine about “balance,” insisting the book lacks “both sides” fairness. But Kuhn’s project isn’t to equivocate; it’s to document how one party systematically dismantled norms, exploited racial resentment, and turned governance into a zero-sum game. The evidence speaks for itself—lived experience and recent history (like the GOP’s embrace of election denialism) confirm Kuhn’s thesis. This isn’t partisan propaganda; it’s a timeline of accountability, backed by historical receipts. Bottom line: it's a vital, galvanizing read for everyone who hasn’t yet given up on saving the country.

Facts & Fury
An Unapologetic Primer on How the GOP Has Destroyed American Democracy
by Bill Kuhn
This book takes you back in time and leads you forward showing the reader how the GOP has slowly and deliberately picked at and chopped democracy until it's in such a frail state that it's in today. As bad as it is, our SCOTUS is trying to set us back further with now wanting to take away women's rights, right to marry who you want, ban books, ban contraception, and trans rights. I see how this ties in to the book.
The book gives lots of details and makes it interesting. I got furious as I read it that the GOP would assault Democracy without any cares for the outcome. Power, greed, and money seemed to be most of the motivation. I lived through a great deal of it and remember some.
I saw reviews that criticized the book for not telling both sides. But the author did. He showed what the GOP did and why! Some people just don't want to believe that some lawmakers would do such things especially ones they voted for.
I want to thank NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this great book!

Well written and very engaging
It gives you a historical perspective on the current political landscape
Easy to see how we got here today
Highly recommend it to anyone who cares about democracy

This book is incredibly easy to determine who will love and hate it. If you blindly agree with the author that all things evil in the world are caused by Republicans you will love it. If you think all things perfect in the world are because of Republicans you will hate it. So what about those looking at it from an objective viewpoint?
Those people will be disappointed. The book does what happens with those who are zealots. It tosses out insults, name calls and posits opinion as fact. For a book titled FACTS AND FURY there are few facts and plenty of fury.
Assumptions are made throughout and claims based on long debunked items run rampant here. Anyone keeping up with the daily news will find fault in a number of items in this book. But to the author those things don’t matter. In his mind the only way to see things is his way and no other.
Charles Krauthammer once said “To understand the workings of American politics, you have to understand this fundamental law: Conservatives think liberals are stupid. Liberals think conservatives are evil.” This author makes his point extremely well.
