“…every time we say we’re bored someone gets killed…”

FINALLY!!! After 14 books and off the chart chemistry, a wedding and I cried… so much emotion and romance… and burnt toast! It was beautiful, I felt I was there experiencing the happy proceedings for myself 😍😍

Ok ok, yes this is a crime thriller, enough lovey dovey soppiness…. A nutter on the loose #surprisesurprise Bodies are turning up but without the usual personal identifiers and no one reported missing – WHO THE HELL ARE THESE WOMEN??! Was this the case that would stump the team in Black Rock Falls?

I tried to stay one step ahead as I followed the investigation. I thought my insight to the goings on with the victims would help me but I ended up tying myself in knots, trying to second guess where Hood was taking the investigation. It’s possibly a good job I’m not the sheriff in serial killer central, I mean Black Rock Falls!

Kiss Her Goodnight is a slightly different read in the series but equally as addictive and twisted. The challenges the characters faced throughout this investigation showed more of their instincts and skills than before. I was invested from the start, the switch in narratives from the investigation to one of the last victims and back again kept me on my toes. Another cracking instalment in the series and I can’t wait to see what happens next, especially with the return of one troublemaker!

I can't believe this is book 15 already - this author is certainly a prolific writer! I have read them all :)

Anyway, Jenna and Dave are back and things have been a bit quiet. They are planning their wedding but otherwise there isn't all that much to do and because they are people of action, they are not enjoying it much. Then, a young woman with a number on her turns up dead. There are few clues as to who she is but the team swings into action and tries to solve the mystery.

In the meantime, Jenna and Dave are finally married and jet off to their honeymoon. Of course, things do not go smoothly there, but I won't spoil the story for anyone else! At least they made it to the altar, lol.

Another young woman's body shows up, also with a number on her, and there is a growing realisation that there is a serial killer in Black Rock Falls yet again.

Now, I have to say that this book didn't really hit the mark for me. There were conclusions come to without evidence, a few grammatical errors which were annoying and considering that Jenna and Dave were newlyweds, there could have been a bit more love shown between them. I don't know what I am trying to say exactly....I liked this book but didn't love it.

4 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

This is the first book I have read from this author.... Yes it is book 15 of a series but I simply wanted to know what the "hype" about D K Hood was all about. After reading 1000s of crime mystery/police procedurals you get jaded and sometimes despair in finding as good series as your reliable authors.... Well, I am a convert and now a big fan, I AM TOTALLY HOOCKED and will be purchasing the whole series and read it from the very beginning.
This series is simply pure pleasure and ticks all my boxes:
Good mystery plot,
Very likable characters with a solid and believable character development,
Lovely location setting in Montana
A love interest which finally has a happy ending.

All the ingredients in my opinion for the perfect crime mystery series. Absolutely fantastic, the type of series I know I will be reading more than once just to be able to spend more time with these characters.
Very well done.

Ok, I think I say it every time but wowzers! This book was awesome! I loved that we carried on from the last book and had happy times to kick us off…well they were short-lived, but it was nice to see.

I really want to talk about the plot but I am not going to spoil it but jeez that was chilling. It kinda reminded me of Kiss the Girls but not as graphic! It was harrowing and cold and my days a blast from the past. I was happy about this as I was worried about a said character from the previous book!!

This is a cold cold story this time. What a sinister psychopath, the reasoning behind the whole story was a worrying one. I get it but oh my days, as a reason to justify everything. It was damn horrifying.

This is the darkest book in the series. Whilst I enjoyed this book, a LOT, I was slightly miffed with Jenna and Dave for their rash decision making on one of the characters. I mean I will probably be proven right in the next book, but I still wanted a benefit of the doubt provided!

I blitz through this!! I was racing through the pages with the need to find out what is going on. This series is still refreshing and so addictive! I really couldn’t put the book down, just loved it and will definitely be in my top books for the year!

Detective Kane and Alton series is so addictive and compelling to read.

I haven't read all fifteen books that are out. Every single one was better than the last in the past two years since I discovered them.

“Kiss her Goodnight “ reads scarier and more suspenseful. With no clue at the beginning, the main characters are finding it harder to grab hold of the crime investigation and the author has done an amazing job of adding and hiding small clues throughout the chapters. I honestly didn't know who could've been the villain in this story.

It's really a page turner and a book that I’ve read in one sitting because I was so invested in finding out the truth.

Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane are finalising preparations for their wedding when a body is discovered on the carousel in Black Rock Falls' park. The female victim is naked and wearing a mask, she's been beaten and skewers have been inserted into her spine. Their team keep the discover of a second victim on the morning of the wedding secret from Jenna and Dave, they know that if they find out about it they will cancel their honeymoon. After the newlyweds return from Florida another victim is discovered however this victim has clues for the investigative team - DNA from someone they thought had left town but had obviously been kidnapped by the killer. When someone close to the team is abducted all hands are on deck to try and discover where the killer is holding the women and to rescue their friend.

Another fantastic read in the Kane and Alton series.

Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and D K Hood for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Kiss Her Goodnight' by DK Hood.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for DK Hood, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 1st June 2022.

This is the fourth book I have read by this author. It is also the fifteenth book in the 'Detective Kane and Alton' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'Cross My Heart' (book 12 in the series), 'Fallen Angel' (book 13 in the series), 'Don't Look Back (book 13.5 in the series) and' Pray For Mercy '(book 14 in the series) and I highly recommend them all.

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'Fans of Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot will be gripped by this crime thriller from USA Today bestselling author D.K. Hood.' I am a huge fan of all three of those authors so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of DK Hood and if this is half as good as 'Cross My Heart', 'Don't Look Back', 'Pray For Mercy' and 'Fallen Angel' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue, 46 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is set in Montana, USA 🇺🇸.

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonists are Sheriff Jenna Alton and Detective David Kane along with the perp, Poppy Anderson . The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

OMG!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVED THIS BOOK!!! D.K HOOD you just keep getting better and better!!!

This book is fantastically written and had me hooked from the first page until the last. DK Hood way of writing is perfectly evocative and she has such a creative imagination!! The descriptions were so vivid and realistic I felt myself feeling the cold and damp and reaching for a blanket to warm me up. This has got to be one of the best storylines I have ever read!!!! OMG the suspense, especially during a certain event left me with my heart in my throat!! Needless to say I absolutely LOVED the storyline. This book is absolutely perfect for any crime lovers as you are literally reading about crime, secrets and murder!!! It just does not get better than that!!! Just seriously, I cannot say how brilliant all this book was!!! The storyline is packed with tension, suspense, murder, tension and filled with twists and turns. I was absolutely shocked when everything was revealed and was not expecting it at all!!! I genuinely thought for once I had actually worked out who it was in this amazing series but YET AGAIN DK Hood proves me wrong!! A HUGE congratulations to D.K Hood, it is getting harder and harder to shock me but you did it well!!! . D.K Hood has obviously done her research on police procedurals which is yet another bonus as I've read many crime novels where the authors make massive mistakes due to not doing enough research. I am ABSOLUTELY LANDED that Jenna and Kane finally got married but as with everything in Jenna and Kane's life's nothing can go off without a hitch and my heart absolutely went out to them after a certain event. Although Jenna will most definitely have the story she wanted to tell her grandchildren. This is an absolutely unputdownable page turner and I cannot wait to read the previous and future books in what is promising to be an addictive series.

I have got an admission to make!! In my review for DK Hood's last book 'Pray For Mercy' I had said "I did have one small issue which would normally mean I only gave a book 4/5 instead of 5/5 and that was what happened with Poppy? There was something that happened but then she was barely mentioned again which is driving me crazy wanting to know. Whether this is done on purpose and all will be revealed in the next book I'm unsure. I cannot wait to read it either way and do hope we get some answers." All is forgiven!!! So glad I didn't have to wait long and I do apologise, should have known it wasn't like you to miss a detail like that, just teasing us so I am very sorry (which is a first in my reviews EVER!!)

Although this is the fifteenth book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

I absolutely LOVED meeting the characters again and they are all realistic and I became completely invested in them. I love that Jenna is such a strong female lead that has history and has been through so much but doesn't cower and stands strong. I enjoyed watching her relationship with Kane and I am looking forward to going back to how they met and moving forward to see where it goes especially after how the book ended (LOVE LOVE LOVE by the way!!!) Kane is another fantastic character that I became invested in and I adore how protective of Jenna he is. The team dynamics worked well and I also enjoyed getting to know more about Rio, Wolfe and Rowley and I look forward to meeting them all again. I must say my favourite had to be Duke though!!!! What an absolutely fantastic addition, I just love it when pets play such large parts in books. The only person I am not a fan of is Poppy and really hope what a certain someone said at the end of this book turns out to be false as it would break my heart if it happened.... I know how annoyingly vague that is but I don't want to give anything away so to find out what I mean you'll just have to get your copy of this amazing book. Regardless of whether you love or hate any of the characters they all work perfectly to make this storyline an absolutely addictive, explosive page turner!!! The majority of the characters have become like friends to me and I'm always sad to say goodbye never knowing when I'll "see" them again so I really hope the next book is being written as I speak. Hint hunt 😉 DK Hood!!!

Congratulations D.K Hood on what promises to be a huge success!!! Very rarely an authors books get better but you have certainly mastered it!!! I cannot wait to get stuck into more of your books and this is exactly why you are one my favourite crime authors!!!

This book is definitely in my top 10 and considering I've read 1000's this is a HUGE achievement!!! This series is also in my top 5 ♥

Do not start this until you have cleared yours schedules as you will not be able to put it down!!

Overall an absolutely addictive, heart racing and unputdownable crime thriller that will keep you up all night.

Genres covered in this novel include Police Procedural, Suspense, Mystery, Thriller, Noir Fiction and Crime Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh, Angela Marsons, Carol Wyer, Kendra Elliot and anyone looking for a gripping page turner .

327 pages.

This book is just £2.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5 /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

It has been quiet in Black Rock Fall, too quiet, probably good as Sheriff Jenna Alton is marrying Deputy Dave Kane. And then a body is found on the playground, dressed in a nightgown and a mask glued on, some of the clues remind Jenna of another bodies, but the murderer is looked up. A 2nd body is found on the morning of the wedding, Jenna and Dave’s very capable team is keeping this quiet as not mess up the wedding, they can deal with it for a weekend.
After a hurricane weekend honeymoon, Jenna and Dave are back, and before things are solved one of their favourite local people is kidnapped. The team races to get the culprit.
A pass paced, another sit at the edge of your seat installment! I didn’t like Poppy Anderson when she was introduced before, and I knew she would show up again, and seriously I don’t look forward to her being part of the team, but I am still looking forward to the next book!
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an early read in exchange for my opinion.

Kiss Her Goodnight by D.K. Hood is the 15th in the Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane series, and takes place in Black Rock Falls, Montana.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Series Background:   (Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books)
Former DEA, Jenna Alton is now the Sheriff in Black Rock Falls, Montana.  Her past is a secret.  Deputy David Kane's background is also a secret.  He was a Special Forces sharpshooter, and a bodyguard to the President.  They are now engaged.  Then there is Forensic Scientist Shane Wolfe, who is not only a Medical Examiner with amazing computer skills, he used to be Kane’s handler. So, with a few other deputies, Jenna has a good team to handle crime in the small Black Rock Falls town, which seems to have more murders than a small town should.

My Synopsis:   (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
The first body is discovered in the playground, dressed in only a thin nightgown, and a mask glued to her face.  She had been beaten, given a number, and skewers stuck into her spine.   No DNA is found on the victim.

A second body turns up with identical markings, except for the number on her back.

None of these women have been reported missing, so identifying them is difficult.  There seems to be a serial killer on the loose, keeping women captive somewhere, torturing them, and then leaving the bodies for Jenna to find.

The third body, however, finally provides a clue.  Is the killer getting sloppy?  Or was it put there for Jenna to find.

Then Susie from the diner goes missing, and Jenna is sure this is directed toward her.  Once more, Jenna will traverse the winding underground caves in the mountains just outside of town.

In between all these dead women, Jenna and Dave finally get married and have a rather short, horrifying honeymoon.

My Opinions:
Well, at least this time there was a reason to bring in the FBI.  Jo and Carter may as well move to Black Rock Falls, because Jenna and her team can't do anything without them.  Yes, this is an on-going struggle for me and these books....and  I still have problems with Carter.

Now, Poppy is back in the picture, and I didn't like her the first time around.  So another character I'm not liking....  Let's not forget Emily.

I saw more strength in Jenna's authority over Dave and the team in this book.  That's two in a row, and a needed improvement.  I'm not holding my breath for a third.

For me, the saving grace for these books is the plot.  The plots always satisfy my need for a good mystery.  This was again the case.  It was really interesting (if a little dark). Basically it was about psychopaths who quite easily lead double lives.  A family on one hand, and brutality and killing on the other.

Overall, even with my lack of enthusiasm for the characters, these books still have my attention.  Every plot is fresh and compelling.  I will continue to read them.

This is Book #15 in this incredible series. Another roller coaster of a ride. What is more terrifying than being in serial killer central (Black Rock Falls)? Maybe being caught in a hurricane! This killer carves numbers in his victim’s bodies and displays them around town. Some very tense moments in this book. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book. Bring on Book #16.

Kiss Her Goodnight is the fifteenth book in the police procedural series featuring Detectives David Kane and Jenna Alton. I picked up this series with Whisper in the Night (book 6) and I also thoroughly enjoyed books seven through to fourteen.

So I'm back in Black Rock Falls, Montana, with Sheriff Jenna Alton who makes a very likeable detective. Jenna has a good team to handle crime in the small town, which has certainly seen more than its fair share of murders! Her husband, and deputy, David Kane is a former Special Forces marksman with exceptional profiling skills. In this instalment, homewrecker Poppy Anderson plays a pivotal role which was unexpected. With Dave and Jenna's wedding and a hurricane to contend this was fast-paced, well balanced, electrifying and gritty just as I knew it would be. It had me glued to the pages and I didn't want to put it down as I was desperate to know the outcome of the story. The tension snowballed as D.K. Hood lobbed in some captivating misdirection. The writing flowed effortlessly in a story rich in drama. I will be seeking out the first five instalments of this masterful series. A brilliant, compelling, pulse-pounding and very highly recommended crime-thriller.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

When the body of a young woman is discovered in a local playground in the centre of Black Rock Falls, Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy David Kane rush to the scene. Jenna recoils with horror when she sees the body, dressed in a thin nightgown, her face covered by a terrifying Halloween mask. When the body is examined, red puncture marks are uncovered along her spine. Jenna makes a connection with a cold case where the killer tortured young women for years and was never caught.
Days later, when another victim lays slumped against the fence of a local landfill site, with the same puncture wounds and macabre mask, Jenna’s fears are confirmed. A serial killer is back in town and they’re picking off women one by one. Then, as a third body is found, Jenna finally gets the breakthrough she needs.
The fifteenth book in the series & it feels as fresh as the first. I love how the characters have developed throughout the series & of course in this book there's the long awaited wedding. Another well written book that I found hard to put down, the pace never lags, there are twists & turns plus I didn’t work out who the villain was always a bonus. Roll on book sixteen
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

It’s been a boring three months in town. Kane and Jenna know better than to utter that word because havoc was unleashed as soon as they did. Bodies are staged all over town and the team has to figure this one out fast as one of their own is taken. Kane and Jenna have a special ceremony and then a honeymoon from hell. I didn’t expect anything less with those two.
I love their relationship, but I didn’t like that the sheriff restored a troublemaker.
The plot was absolutely diabolical and twisted. I loved it. Every book eclipses the last.
I’d like to see Carter and Jo become an item, just a thought.
I’m ready for,the next case!

First off like always I want to say a huge thank you to the publisher Bookouture , the author D.K. Hood , and to the wonderful ladies of the Bookouture Anonymous Facebook group without them and their hard work and efforts I wouldn't knew about these books and to NetGalley for the invite to join this blog tour as well as letting me read and review it. This is just keeps getting better and better . And every time I think I've found my favorite one , it turns out I was wrong , so I'm saying all of the ones I've read so far are my all times favorites . As for my favorite characters that's easy that Kane, Alton and lets for not their team and friends , as well as Duke - Kane's dog. This one actually made me feel claustrophobic because of where some of the story takes place , the inter time I was reading I was like why did it have to take place underground , but that made the story even more enjoyable because when a thriller makes you feel like your actually in the place that your afraid of then the author has done their job and in this case one of my greatest fears is been in underground places , because I can't do confined places. Another thing I liked about it was that we got to see what happened to Poppy ( who I can say will never be a favorite of mine ) ,and the way the killer killed his victims. And just like the how the books keep getting better , the killers seems even more twisted then the last and that's other thing I love about this this book series.

Another brilliant book in one of my favourite series.
This book follows on from the previous story where Poppy was kidnapped.
We find out that she’s being held in some caves along with other women but they are punished if they talk to each other.
Jenna and Kane are about to get married but their honeymoon does not go to plan.
There is a killer leaving bodies in and around Black Rock Falls and soon it’s clear that Poppy is linked to this, despite all signs indicating she is in Colorado.
This is a gripping crime thriller that will definitely have you on the edge of your seat.
It’s great to catch up with Jenna and Kane as always.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Once again we are treated to a fast paced thrilling read that had me hooked from the very first page.

After 15 books I feel like these characters are friends to catch up with.

A cracking page turner with some omg moments that will keep you reading late into the night.

I loved it and already looking forward to Book 16.

🏞Serial killer strikes too close to home!😳

4-4.5 🌟 stars
I am always looking for the next book in this series about warped, twisted murder under Montana skies and this book definitely met my expectations in the creepy killer department. But there's the addition of a happy event which brings Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane even closer: a wedding and a wild honeymoon.

For some reason, this did not keep me stuck to the story as much as I usually am with this series. That's not to say the action, danger and suspense was missing. Maybe Jenna and Dave's personal milestone just cut the tension a bit.

But putting one of the town's and Sheriff's office's favorite local personalities in mortal danger ramped up the urgency in the latter chapters. And the way she is taken is a classic example of how no matter what you do to strengthen personal safety and vigilance there's always the chance it won't work at crunchtime!

The rural Montana setting is once again key to the killer's operation as he carries on his gruesome activities in the area but unnoticed for years.

I enjoyed the suspense and the way Jenna and her team work so well together; now I'm waiting for the next sequel😊.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Another unputdownable book by DK Hood, I love to read her novels but never want to end them. This is book 15 in the Kane and Alton series, and I have started to read them all again. It was great to see everyone together again, Jenna and Dave get on well with Jo and Carter. This book made me very excited, but I won't give away any spoilers. Thank you Bookouture and netgalley for the chance to read early. I highly recommend the whole series. I would give 10 stars if I could.

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Kiss Her Goodnight’, the fifteenth in the Detectives Kane and Alton series written by D K Hood, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane from Montana’s Black Rock Falls are due to be married the following day when the body of a woman is found in the children’s playground dressed in a skimpy negligee and a glued-on face mask. As Jo Wells and Ty Carter from the FBI are standing in while they take a honeymoon, Jenna and Dave know that with the help of Deputies Jake Rowley and Zac Rio they’re leaving the investigation in safe hands.

Black Rock Falls is fast becoming known as ‘Serial Killer Centre’ due to the high number of crimes committed which escalates further in ‘Kiss Her Goodnight’ when unidentified female bodies are found abandoned across the town. I love the characters who, when not on duty, come across as one big happy family so it goes without saying that I’ll be very sad if this is to be the last book as I’ve followed this series from the very beginning. I’m so pleased that Jenna and Dave have finally tied the knot and their hair-raising honeymoon adds to what turns out to be a very exciting thriller, fraught with danger, drama, twists and turns, and heart-stopping moments on every page. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic thriller that’s compulsive reading and comes highly recommended.

One of the top series I have read and based in the USA. The town Black Rock Falls seems to be idyllic until you look at the death toll.

What I truly like with this book is that the characters are just so personable and are like many people that you would see daily.

I do love the fact that Jenna and Dave will be married as it's one of those relationships I always wanted to work out.

Poor Jenna and Dave they always seem to have their plans pulled out from under them. It just seems like it's normal for them that they can't have a normal life.

The story is great showing so much of an what I love. Also live the fact that the story is more difficult to figure it out. I like guessing who the killer is and what types of things are coming next.

As I get further into this series I feel that I am a part of their extended family. I wanted to cry in this book as I felt so bad for Dave and Jenna at first. Though you quickly realize that these two need more than just each other. They need to have the type of life where they are solving crimes and saving people.

Part of what I love about this book it isn't traditional ending where most of not all die.

The only bad part is Poppy as I am not fond of the character in the least. Her attitude and the way she goes after things has rubbed me the wrong way. I do think that eventually this may change and I may like her but right now she makes me want to yell.

I want to thank the author and the publisher for giving me this great opportunity to read and review this book. This series is second to none and is one of the very best dealing with small town USA.
