OMG OMG OMG I wasn't sure anything could ever top Amari and the Night Brothers, but B.B, Alston has proven himself to be a master. This book was even better than the first! I can't wait until book three comes out!

While I enjoyed Amari’s adventures, I was thrilled that my students really connected with her. Seeing a magical world through untarnished eyes is such a wonderful experience.

I’m glad that we get to spend more time in the Amari universe. However I do feel like it was a bit slow in places. But we were left with a good cliffhanger to lead into book three in the future.

An amazing sequel in a must read series. This is an updated version of Harry Potter with good versus evil. Keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.

The Great Game did not disappoint. Just as magical, imaginative, exciting, well written and emotive as book one, The Great Game was impossible to put down is was once again a story I could easily dive straight back into in a heartbeat.

Another great Amari adventure! Kids love this series because of the magical systems, and then stay wanting more because the characters seem like them.

The second book in the Amari series is just as amazing as the first. My students are devouring this series! We cannot wait for the third book.

The first book in this series, AMARI AND THE NIGHT BROTHERS was one of my favourite reads of 2021, and it’s my number one recommendation for patrons looking for books like Harry Potter. I’m always nervous about picking up a sequel because they often don’t meet my expectation, but this was certainly not the case with AMARI AND THE GREAT GAME. A growing hatred toward magicians overshadows Amari’s first summer as a Junior Agent. When she turns down the offer to head the League of Magicians to stand up against the animosity, she sets in motion a series of events that result in a deadly game for power and control. It was hard to put down this story with its fast-paced action, clever twists, and excellent writing. This series is a must-read for middle-grade fantasy lovers.

Amari has come through so much in her first adventure and she is faced with so much more in this one. She is battling with her brother's health, trying to save everyone, and dealing with a new group who is trying to recruit her. She attempts to bridge the gap between the magicians and the rets of magickind, but that's not easy when some magician are out to ruin everything.

This was a great addition to Amari's story. Some sequels focus too much on what made the original do well that they don't have their own flare. However, I feel like the author did a great job of giving us what we loved about the first book while still expanding on the world and giving it new and interesting flavors.

This is the series I wish had come out when I was an avid Harry Potter reader. Amari is one of the best characters in fantasy, and the world that B.B. Alston has built makes me want to live in it.

Amari and the Night Brothers is now one of my favorite juvenile fantasy books, and I'm very pleased to say that the same holds true for book two. This is going to be one of my top juvenile reading recommendations this year!

A delightful sequel! The author hooks you right away, especially with the amount of emotional connection he's created between Amari and the reader. We feel for her so quickly, and we can't help but root for her as she is faced time and time again with unfair obstacles. Also, the ending! I can't wait to see what happens next.

4.25 rounded to 4

Amari and the Great Game is as great, maybe even more phenomenal than the first book. Amari is a character with so much heart and you immediately have to root for her. The secondary cast is just as compelling, the world is imaginative and thrilling, and the plot leaves you breathless.

This novel was a wonderful follow-up to the first novel. It was, in my opinion, better but the series obviously couldn't function without the first one. Amari is in her first full year as a junior agent. She thinks everything is going to be great. Things happen and she is torn on what to do. This is a very mysterious fantasy novel and I would recommend it to all my students.

Great follow up book, but the first book does remain my favorite as the character development and plot is stronger. I did add this book to my classroom library and my students are looking forward to more books about Amari.

Thank you Harper Collins and NetGalley for an ARC.

Amari and the Night Brothers was so fun that this second book was high on my list. While I slightly prefer the first one, Amari and the Great Game still captured all the great elements that made it a good time. and that ending!!! I already can't wait for the third installment.

This books is the Two Towers of the Amari series. I'm not sure if Amari will get a trilogy or something more, but she just couldn't catch a break in this book. I don't want to give too much away, but I was just left feeling depressed after finishing. I'm somewhat hopeful that the author has a great finish in store for Amari in the next book. But I really wish I had waited to read it until closer to when the next book comes out. I am struggling to give this one a rating. I am glad I read it, but there was so much going wrong for Amari that I can't say it was enjoyable to read.

Fast paced middle grade fantasy with female protagonist Amari looking forward to summer Bureau camp, when suddenly there is a time freeze. Friends, foes, students against adults, curses, and a dangerous Game to determine the next leader of the League of Magicians give this a very HP feel. If you missed the first one, AMARI AND THE NIGHT BROTHERS, “Great Game” easily alludes to the backstory from “Night Brothers” so the reader is not at a loss. While we wait for Amari 3 to drop, which will Sept.-Oct. 2023, one could go back and read it.
Thank you to Balzer&Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins Children's Books ,and Netgalley for the digital arc.
