Poor Emily. The things that happened to her in this story are heartbreaking.

Andrea had a heck of a start to her US Marshall career. I enjoyed her partner and their dynamic.

Overall, I really liked this story.

Andrea Oliver is now a US Marshall. Sometimes she still can't believe it. Her very first assignment will be in Longbill Beach as she will be protecting a judge who is receiving death threats. Forty years previously, Emily Vaughn was attacked and left for dead. Whatever it was that happened to Emily that night is most definitely connected to what is going on with the judge.

Although Andrea has a definite job, she cannot stop thinking about what happened to Emily all those years ago. In fact, the story tells of the past as well as the present. When considering what Emily experienced before her attack, it is unclear who it was who would have wanted her dead. Some of those very same people are present in Longbill Beach where Andrea has been assigned. Andrea talks to as many people as possible so that she can find out what happened to Emily and how it is connected to the judge's death threats now.

While it is true that forty years have passed and Emily's case remains unsolved, Andrea is determined to find whatever answers she can to bring that case to a close.

Girl, Forgotten follows Pieces of Her, and what readers see is that Andrea's assignment, as well as her personal relationships, all come together. Danger is present almost from the very start. However, with a couple of surprising twists and turns, this second book in the Andrea Oliver series was a great read.

Many thanks to William Morrow and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

I was invested on and off with this one. Maybe it just wasn't the right time for me to pick this up, or maybe it could be that I'm not into graphic gruesome thrillers anymore. I found this one to be engaging in parts, but also not. I have to admit this is my first Karin Slaughter and I didn't read the first book first so I don't have the back story of Andrea, but maybe that didn't matter. This one won't stick with me, ultimately.

I wasn’t a fan of Pieces of Me, but this go ‘round with Andrea was a pleasant surprise. She’s a brand new U.S. Marshal working security for a federal judge while secretly trying to solve a 40 year old murder that has connections to her biological father. There’s a lot going on in Girl, Forgotten - it’s fast past paced and I was shocked at the end when we find out what happened 40 years ago. I loved Catfish Bible as Andrea’s partner. He was funny and sarcastic, but sharp as a tack and patient with Andrea.

Loved this thriller, but as always, anything Slaughter writes will have some trigger warnings- sexual assault, domestic violence, cults. Still, I highly recommend it!

Karin Slaughter really knows how to go cover a lot of topics in one solid novel: murder, teenage family & friend dynamics, cults, community and reputation. I'm glad I came back to this book after initially putting it down, worried about what trauma in the pages was ahead for me. Fortunately, as it always does with Karin, this was another memorable book.

A small town case of the nearly forty year murder of Emily Vaughn: 17, pregnant, and found after prom. No one knows who killed her or who the father of her unborn child is. The sequel to Pieces of Her follows Andrea Oliver fresh out of the US Marshal academy and on her first case, which happens to be linked to her biological, psychopath father Clay/Nick. Andrea is sent to the small town to protect a federal judge receiving death threats, and she meets her partner Leonard "Catfish" Bible. Though on an active protection assignment, she's intrigued by the forty-year-old cold case especially when an emaciated woman is found on a "hippie farm" that may be linked to Emily's case.
Told from Andrea's POV and flashbacks of Emily trying to piece together the night she became pregnant, which she does not remember. I enjoyed Andrea's character development from the first book (though, honestly, I had to start watching the Netflix series to jog my memory of the premise) and Karin Slaughter is excellent at creating dual perspectives while drawing out the primary mystery. And now, the "BUT"...it was pretty slow-paced and the resolution was just ok. It was pretty clear that Emily's "friends" (aka "The Clique") were all awful, cruel, and manipulative. Solid story, Slaughter is a master when building up a mystery (and creates really hateful characters), but it fell a little flat for me in the resolution.

Not a fan. Too many unimportant details. The story was confusing to follow - maybe it would have helped to read the first book? Also, most of the characters are unlikable.

Karin Slaughter is a wonderful thriller author and I am never disappointed! This is a follow up to Pieces of Her about a murdered teen in the 80s and present day a judge receiving threats. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for a review.

Thank you to netgalley for providing an e-galley for review. Girl, forgotten follows the story of Emily Vaughn, the daughter of a US Supreme Court Judge who had everything going for her, outwardly. Emily has a secret that will be silenced on prom night. Her murder remains unsolved for 40 years until Andrea Oliver, brand new US Marshal arrives on scene supposedly to protect the Judge, but actually to find out the truth about Emily's murder with a possible connection to Andrea herself. While it seems convoluted, it was a fun, fast paced read

I am excited to see more of Andrea Oliver after meeting her Pieces of Her. In this novel, Andrea is a newly qualified US Marshal. She receives her first assignment that requires her to protect a judge receiving death threats. Andrea, however, is more interested in the brutal death of Emily Vaughn. Emily’s death may have links to Andrea’s biological father, who is up for parole soon. Of course, she’s secretly hoping he had something to do with it so he’ll stay in prison for life.

I liked that the story was told from the perspective of Andrea and Emily. Slaughter does a great job depicting Andrea’s greenness in her new role as a US Marshall and navigating the complexities of this case while attempting to protect the judge.

I loved this book and hoping for more stories involving Andrea Oliver and of course her partner, Catfish.

I didn't realize this was a sequel until I started it. I had not read Pieces of Her, but I had no problem getting into the story. Andrea Oliver has just finished her U.S. Marshal training and is immediately sent on assignment to protect a federal judge who has been receiving threats. Before she goes, she is visited by her estranged uncle who is a U.S. Senator who tells her the real reason for her assignment which is to find out if the man who murdered the judge's teenaged daughter was Andrea's father who is currently in prison and they would like to keep it that way.

I enjoyed the book and if you are a fan of the author, you most likely will too. I still love Will Trent and hope she writes more in that series, but this one looks promising.

Another great thriller by Karin Slaughter. I read this one so quickly and enjoyed every minute of it.
Am already recommending this one to everyone! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.

Great thriller with lots of exciting plot points. I flew through this one. I haven't read the other Andrea Oliver book, but I will be now!

Andrea Oliver has just graduated US Marshal school and landed her first case-protecting a federal judge who is receiving death threats. The judge just happens to be the mother of Emily Vaughn-a teen girl murdered in 1982 whose case was never solved. Andrea has a personal connection to this case and takes the opportunity to solve this one while on assignment to protect the judge. The story goes back and forth between present day and 1982 where teenage Emily has fallen in with a questionable crowd and Andrea's father was also part of this crowd. Emily digs deep to find out if her father was responsible for the death of Emily Vaughn and in the process uncovers a lot more about the unscrupulous cast of characters in Long Bill Beach who know what happened to Emily and have done everything they can for the past 40 years to cover it up. Glad I stuck with it as it was really slow going the first 1/3 but the last 2/3 of this book sucked me right in and I couldn't put it down until the end. Definitely worth the read.

Girl, Forgotten features newly graduated US Marshal Andrea Oliver on her first assignment.. Andrea grew up in Witness Protection.

Now she goes off the grid to take on a cold case investigation as well as her official assignment to Longbill Beach (part of a judge's protection detail).

In 1982, Emily Vaughn went to prom - and didn't survive the experience. SHer murder has never been solved. Andrea is determined to find out what happened.

What follows is a typically engrossing Slaughter thriller, with a variety of plot threads, constant action, surprises, vulnerability and romance. Andrea solves both past and very present crimes. Don't miss this one!

I was looking forward to this next installment of Karin Slaughter's. The story was intriguing and I liked that it was told in dual timeline perspective. The detectives and their investigation was interesting but I just thought the book in general was mediocre. Not sure why I just didn't get super invested into it and the characters other than the detectives.

I did not realize this was a sequel when I requested it but that was a pleasant surprise. I loved Pieces of Her and was happy to read more. It took me a bit to get into this one but once I did I was hooked. Karin Slaughter never writes a bad thriller.

Karin Slaughter is an author I’ve wanted to read because so many love her books and on paper, she’s exactly who I would enjoy reading. But try as I might, I just couldn’t get into this one. The back and forth timelines were interesting and I enjoyed the past story more than the one in the present. It was a tad gritty for me, and I just found myself holding off on picking it up. But I know it’ll have a great many fans. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

I don’t know about anyone else, but when Karin Slaughter announces her next book, it automatically hits my to-read list. From her Will Trent series to her standalone novels, she never disappoints. So it will come as no surprise I was thrilled the follow-up to PIECES OF HER was coming.

GIRL, FORGOTTEN is a taut, carefully crafted investigation into a murder forty years ago. The ties between the past and the present are so expertly woven together that the reader will be on the edge of their seat from beginning to end.

Slaughter has gifted her readers with the evolution of Andrea Oliver, who is now a US Marshal. Being able to revisit this complex and flawed character was so wonderful. I loved how she still has insecurities but is developing the tools she needs to fight back.

With suspense, grit, and an insightful look into the underbelly of human nature, Slaughter has done it again. Would it be wishful thinking that Andrea Oliver will have another book or maybe a series? A girl can dream.

Girl, Forgotten is fantastic! I like to think I usually figure things out as I'm reading, but not in this one. You'll be on the edge of your seat the entire time!
