Stunningly presented and a fabulous tome of self betterment, this book offers a lot without being the size of a brick. I would recommend this and can think of several people who would absolutely love it.

This book is just gorgeous and calming even if you just look at the pictures. Lots of wonderful statements and activities to help you calm down and relax.

The sound of sea waves has a very soothing effect on me.
In fact, living in a remote beach house is one of my dreams.
So, it's no wonder that this book immediately appealed to me.

There are 10 chapters and each one centers around a certain aspect of your personality. You learn how to be unstoppable, abundant, light, inspiring, authentic, adventurous, creative, soulful, love and grounded.
Every chapter follows the same structure: a sand story (personal life story of a woman), a lesson in waves (where the author gives some self-help advice) and a meditation exercice. These texts are interspersed with several quotes and pictures of beaches, sunsets, waves, …

If I were to judge only the beautiful photographs and the relaxing page design, this book would without doubt receive 4*.

But there's also the written content which accompanies the pictures and unfortunately I have quite a few gripes in this area.

In the introduction it immediately becomes clear that the author has an exclusively female reading audience in mind when she draws the parallels between the ocean and women. Throughout the entire book only quotes from females are included and several times (only) women are adressed directly.
Although being a woman and feminist myself, I absolutely don't see the point in discriminating men and think the author missed an opportunity to approach this subject in a wider and more objective way in order to appeal to a broader audience.

Several of the mentioned quotes are from women working for Dune Jewellery (https://dunejewelry.com/), the business the author started 11 years ago.
The idea behind the custom made jewels with sand in them is very interesting and it's totally comprehensible that people working there are also beach enthousiasts.
But by mentioning Dune Jewellery so often, this book sometimes feels more like a giant advertisement in book form rather than an ode to the sea.

Although some of the thoughts and comparisons expressed in this book are actually nice, most of the time the link with the sea/ocean seemed non-existent or very far-fetched and it kind of jumped all over the place.
It was as if the author gathered some advices from different self-help books (yes, even the words coaching and therapy were used) and then sought for a link to water, waves, beach, … just to fit them in and pass them on.

All in all, I've very mixed feelings about this book.
Maybe I just wasn't the right reader for it, as I'm sure lots of other people (mainly women who adore self-help) will appreciate the content more than I did. This is also evidenced by the many positive reviews.
So I'd say: make up your own mind and discover this book for yourself. At least, the gorgeous pictures will give you a real taste of happiness.

I have a love affair with pretty much anything that Quarto Publishing Group prints and this book is no exception. I love the ocean and I can't wait to pick up a few copies of this book to give away as gifts. The pictures are beautiful and will lead you to a place of calm. I enjoyed reading the stories and quotations as well, but the pictures are the best part.

A delightful book that is a love letter to the sea/ocean. The photography is stunning and the book includes a mixture of advice from the author along with quotes from contributors and ideas for meditations. I wouldn’t say I learnt anything new in this book but parts of the book resonated with me and made me pause to think. If you love the water/ocean, you’ll enjoy reading this short and inspiring book.

A serene gift wrapped up in a book. We all have that aunt, grandmother or friend that shares their wisdom that heals, and we are comforted just being with them... this book is like that person you just adore spending time with and feel renewed after visiting.

This book could not have come to me at a better time with the return to the workplace after the pandemic and the world again in seeming chaos. Happiness Comes in Waves has been an honor to read and review. While out on an evening walk my mind drifts to one of the scenic beach locations in the book and the calming feeling it evoked.

Learn of the healing powers of the sea, expand the love of the water and connect more deeply with ourselves. Through the peaceful oceanic images, sea-based quotes, short stories of connections to the sea and ocean-based mediations readers are transported to a safe, calming space.

This would make the perfect gift for beach lovers, water fairies and those that need a bit of respite in their lives.

Grateful to have received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley & The Quarto Group.

This is a beautiful little book filled with soothing photographs of the ocean and cheerful stories, quotes, meditations, and life lessons to inspire you. I didn’t find any deep psychological insights here, but it’s a lovely reminder to live with more peace, love, and authenticity.

The back matter includes tips on ocean conservation and a “sand bank” featuring pictures of sand from different beaches around the world.

At a little over 7 by 7 inches, you could keep this attractive little hardcover book on a desk or bedside table and reach for it whenever you need a break. Turn to any page and enjoy a lovely meditative moment recalling all the best aspects of time spent at the beach. Although it was clearly intended for women, I think it would make a nice gift for anyone who loves the ocean and craves a respite from stress.

Thanks to Rock Point and the Quarto Publishing Group for providing me with an unproofed ARC through NetGalley. I volunteered to provide an honest review.

Absolutely gorgeous book to have for yourself or give to others! Beautiful photos, quotes, and stories inspired by the ocean. Very calming to read and would be perfect as a coffee table book around the home or office.

First of all, the photography in this book is stunning! The book was simple in its design (each chapter included personal stories, quotes, a meditation, and thought provoking content), yet the simplicity was a calming pattern. The book could really be opened up and began on any day page. While the design and layout was gorgeous, some of the content didn’t draw me in. I believe this is a book that could be read over the years and used to develop deeper awareness as you grow in your journey.

Happiness Comes in Eaves is a beautiful little book that will have you longing to be beside the sea. It is full of beautiful pictures and artwork all based around the sea, just opening the pages will make you feel good. The book is full of quotes, stories and anecdotes all related to the ocean. It is a self help good with built in meditative feel, just like that magic that you feel when you are beside the seaside.

This would make a great end table or nightstand book. It would also make a beautiful little gift. Not only is the appearance beautiful it is full of beauty inside. I think we all know an ocean or water lover or maybe by reading this you may grow your own love of water and gain some joy at the same time.

I live in Michigan so while I have been to Oceans I found this equally as relatable in terms of the Great Lakes we are surrounded by. I was able to apply everything in the book to my own experiences with fresh water which was kind of neat. As a matter of fact walking the beaches of The Straits over the weekend I was reflecting on reading this book and I found more beach glass than I ever had before in one hunt. I also took the time to listen to the waves more. To feel the sand and rocks shifting under me. And to be present in the moment.

I especially loved how this book not only had the authors own writings it provided meditations, quotes and other people sharing their own relationships to Oceans. It included tips for self love and positivity and how we can better serve and preserve our own Mother Earth.

With the introduction to our author we learn about her business and how well it ties in with the theme of the book itself. She proves that each of our pasts do not necessarily mold or define us as individuals which is always a beautiful reminder. She helps us understand how similar we are in terms of our moods to the ocean and the tides. Sometimes calm and sometimes stormy, sometimes high and sometimes low. She also explains how the ocean relates to our own body, our brain, and our ebb & flow. It’s a beautiful feel good book.

My thanks to Quarto Publishing Group - Rock Point, for providing me with an advanced eGalley/PDF copy of the book on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This will be published on May 10th, 2022.

The author of this title has loved the beach since she was a child growing up on Cape Cod. From that beginning, it took Ms. Christensen some time to find her way in the world. Always, though, the ocean inspired her and she shares that mindset in this title. A few of the headings included in the book are Be Unstoppable, Be Abundant, Be Adventurous and Be Grounded, all of the things that we could use.

This book is a compilation of reflections, zen activities, photos and quotes. The photography is magnificent and captures the ocean in its many moods.

Those who are looking for some inspiration may well find just that in these pages. It is the author’s guide to an authentic life.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto-Rock Point for this title. All opinions are my own.
