This was a solid 3 star audio book for me. I love a rugged grumpy mountain man and Shep was exactly that. There is a BUNCH of explicit spicy scenes, but it bordered on perhaps too much spice, which I didn’t think was a thing, but when combined with the underdevelopment of the plot and characters, it felt very spice forward for a romance book. For that reason, it reads better as erotica than it does romance.

This audiobook was not great. The story and book itself were interesting and I loved the way BDSM was explored here. I think Claudia and Shep needed a little bit more developing but alas, read it for the smut. I didnt like the narrators at all and I think this really killed the book for me.

Okay! So I did not know I needed a romantic suspense book with a MMC that’s into BDSM, but here we are. 😜

Honestly, Rebekah Weatherspoon can do no wrong in my eyes. Her books are always a good time and Haven is no different!

Not only was it spicy, but it also deals with PTSD and trauma, so it definitely gets emotional.

This book is fast paced, has great communication and of course… a sexy mountain man!!

Claudia is being chased by a man who’s trying to kill her, through the woods into a mountain town. Shepard lives alone in the mountains and hears her yelling for help. He doesn’t hesitate to run out and confront the man and what happens next really stays with them.

After Claudia goes back home to the city, she starts to realize that she wants to be with Shep, because she doesn’t feel safe and he gave her a sense of security. He’s also dealing with the aftermath of what happened and agrees that they can help each other.

And what better way to help each other is by introducing Claudia to BDSM.

Haven is book one in the Beards & Bondage series. If you like a little more emotion with your spice, definitely check it out. And coming up, I’ll be reading the rest of the series, because it’s just too good to miss.

This book is the first in the beards & bondage series! I can definitely say it was interesting. I didn’t quite understand the plot but it did flow in a way. And it was STEAMY.

I had a hard time hearing the male actor through my speakers at times, which made it difficult to follow the story, and I wasn’t the biggest fan of his voice, so that took away some of my enthusiasm that I had about the book. The female narrator did a great job though and was steady throughout! And she was perfect for Claudia.

Shep and Claudia had a unique bond formed through a terrifying situation and their chemistry was lovely! It was fun seeing how their relationship blossomed and what would become of the mountain man and the city queen!

This book definitely was spicy so if you’re looking for that, HIT THIS SERIES UP!

Thanks to tlcbooktours & netgalley for this arc!!

3/5 ⭐️s

There were things I enjoyed about this and things I didn’t. I like how the author acknowledged how the traumatizing events both main characters went through would have lasting effects on their mental health. It was well-represented in Claudia, especially, in how she spiraled and landed back with the last person who made her feel safe. Every time she acknowledged her fear when left alone or in moments that reminded her of that night, I appreciated how well the author encompassed her pain.

To an extent, I really liked the dom/sub dynamic between Shep and Claudia as well. Shep’s journey as a dom especially stuck with me because, as someone from a small town, I know how easy it is to feel like an outsider or judged. On the other hand, however, I didn’t feel an ounce of heat between these two characters. Part of that may be the clinical way their dom/sub relationship is written (though I feel that’s necessary with a relationship like that - boundaries need to be established and feelings voiced), but I mostly think it was due to the narrators being very businesslike in their delivery of the story. Siri could’ve read this better…she would’ve at least put more feeling into it.

Overall, I did enjoy this book. I think I’ll go back and reread it myself sometime in the future…just to get a feel for how to it is without the audio.

Tropes & CWs: He saves her life - Mountain man - Grumpy & Slightly less grumpy - BDSM - Dom/Sub - City Woman/Country Man - Death of a family member - Grief (by the heroine)

Spice: 3/5 🌶
