I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
About the first half of the book I was entranced in Luys and Avery’s story and the mystery that was unfolding however then it turned into something unworldly and the author lost me.
Probably good reading for those in the time travel world but just wasn’t my cup of tea.

A Long Kiss Goodbye is a brilliantly exhilarating and decadently smart adventure that is sure to delight and entertain romantic suspense fans! The wicked plot is fantastically original and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I wasn't able to easily discern what was going on until the end came. Each new plot twist and turn left me breathless and excited for more! This was a fabulous story that I savored and enjoyed every step of the way.

Avery is trudging through life not looking for more. She likes the quiet existence she has created, and she doesn't want anything more. When she is savagely attacked, she doesn't know who to trust or if she can turn to anyone. Does she dare allow Luys to open her life and heart to more? Can her fragile heart take the deadly risk? When Avery learns of the purpose of her attack, can she hope to survive both emotionally as well as physically? Luys is the only one who knows what she is going through, but is his offer of help genuine or a way to manipulate her even more? Only Avery can decide what her next move will be, but will she live long enough to save herself from the invisible forces that mean to wipe her from existence?

It felt effortless in my understanding of Avery and her choices. She felt like an extension of myself. Closing herself off from those around her is something I have learned to do to survive. She is a beautiful person who still secretly longs for more, but she doesn't dare hope for it. She knows what the results are every time she has tried, and she isn't sure she will survive it now. Luys is a wonderous puzzle that I enjoyed piecing together. He was different and yet similar to Avery in many ways even if the reasons are different. These two fantastic characters brought their struggles to life through their actions, their words, and most importantly their heart. What they couldn't accomplish by themselves was easily completed together. What an extraordinary couple that I enjoyed watching and walking this journey with!

H. D. Thomson has blessed me with this amazing story that touched my heart deeply. At every turn, I was lost in their world of pain, loneliness, and danger. My heart was cheering them on every step of the way. I love being able to dive deeply into a story and lose myself among the pages, and this one allowed me to do that so completely. What a true treasure and beguiling pleasure!
