Julie Parker lives the dream life with her husband Owen. They have inherited quite a bit of money and are now trying for a baby. When Julie attends the neighbors party alone however, things rapidly deteriorate. She awakens in a bathtub, half naked with no memory.

Very strong start! I did get confused a bit here and there. Some of the plot points would need you to suspend belief which was distracting. Still, an engaging thriller.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the Kindle ARC. The description of this book caught my attention and I didn't have any idea what to expect. Julie and Owen are a young married couple who do well for themselves, including their purchase of a home from the 1700's in the Berkshires. The couple plans a life together, including eventually having children. When Owen becomes ill on the night of a friend's Christmas party, Julie ventures out alone to the party. The couple's closest friends live through the woods behind their house.
A traumatic rape and attack takes place on Julie's way home and she can't remember who attacked her or anything else that happens. Upon finding out she is pregnant with the rapist's child, she and Owen must decide whether they will keep the baby. Night, Forgotten is a taut domestic suspense/thriller. The story is fast-paced and I wanted to keep reading the book and finished it in just a few days. There are topics that may trigger - rape, pregnancy and marital tension. The ending was very unexpected and, at first, I felt a little let down but the more I thought about the gravity of what I just read, I changed my mind and feel that this was a well-written thriller.

This book had a traumatic plot line and did turn my mind in circles throughout. I got a bit bored in the middle, but the ending really blew me away, so I would say this is a decent trade-off. Propulsive suspense at times made me keep plugging away, and I’m glad I did. This is a psychological thriller to a T! Thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

I thought the idea behind this story sounded so interesting, I was pretty disappointed in how it turned out. When Julie is awakened nude from the waist down in the bathtub at her friends' house with her friends' husband sitting there watching her all I could think was woman why the heck aren't you screaming and throwing things at this guy? She was muddy and bloody so he takes off her clothes and puts her in his tub, that's being nice!? No!! Then after she tells her husband about that night and her friend what happened nobody thinks it was wrong of Marcus to sit there with her naked? When she finds out she was pregnant after being raped I can certainly understand the struggle Julie and Owen went through in deciding to have the baby or not. Since there was a list of everyone at the party I don't understand why the police didn't do more. Instead, they doubted her claims? Well maybe if she would have alerted everyone in the house by screaming when she woke up in the bathroom that night that wouldn't have happened! Of course, you get the shocking ending she is a ghost and died in childbirth. She tells us it was her or the baby, there is no way I believe her husband would save a rapist baby over his beloved wife. They had considered abortion but because of Owen's religious beliefs they said no. When she delivered it was a 27-week baby where the odds were against it even making it. No way do I think a husband would choose a baby that unfortunately was born way too early to be viable, that they had considered aborting over a wife he was madly in love with. Even then that baby wouldn't have come home as soon as it did. That baby would have been in the NICU for months! Going back and reading some of the parts where she was a spirit and was interacting with Owen, his mom and niece,no! How did the baby get unswaddled? Too many inconsistencies for me. Disappointing,I hate giving poor reviews but I just didn't like this book.I

This one started off so strong! I was caught up in the story of Julie and Owen, a married couple living a beautiful life. All that was missing was a baby, but that was in the works. When Owen falls ill with food poisoning, Julie decides to go alone to a neighborhood holiday party; after all, it's only a short walk through the woods. In the early morning hours, Julie wakes up half nude in her neighbor's bathtub, covered in bruises and scratches, and though she can't remember the details, she knows she's been sexually assaulted.

There were many things in the narrative that wouldn't make sense to someone who hadn't suffered a SA, but other than a call to a crisis hotline that she cuts short, Julie doesn't tell anyone, not even her husband. Her worst fears are realized when she becomes pregnant with her attacker's baby. There is much back and forth about abortion and keeping the baby.

Julie has the baby and immediately distances herself from her newborn. Her mother-in-law moves in, and now Julie feels she has two disapproving forces in her life, adding credence to her belief that she never should have been a mother. Things started going off the rails a little right before the big twist, and I remember thinking. "This book better not go there," and it straight DID. The ending really cheapened the entire read for me. I was halfway through the book convinced I had a five star read, but that wasn't the case. I enjoyed the story and I think a different ending could have made ALL of the difference. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this early read. Publishes November 1, 2022.

Name of Book: Night Forgotten
Author: Meghan Joyce Tozer
Publisher: Wattpak Book
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Pub Date: November 1, 2022
My Rating: 4.4 Stars!

Story is told ~ Then and Now
Julie and Owen Porter are excited to have a home in the Berkshires. They bought a farm house built in the 1700's with the goal of restoring it to its original beauty. It is ‘registered’ home’ so have limitations on what remodeling they can do. Once complete they are ready to have a family.
Story starts with ~
Now: Julie is twenty-seven weeks pregnant but is in the hospital giving birth. Her son is two-and-a-half-pounds and is immediately taken to the Neonatal Intensive care until approximately Friday September the 13th six weeks from now which will give him time to develop and grow and would have been his due date.

Then: The next chapter we find Julie and Owen taste tasting food Liza is trying for her upcoming Holiday Party. Julie is busy and doesn’t eat right away and decided to throw it out. Owen has already tasted it ~ sure enough gets sick and believes the meat was bad. The night of the party he is too ill to attend the party and tells Julie that she should still go the Dolan’s Christmas Party as they live in the woods in behind their place. When Julie arrives she is offered a glass of wine and is happy that Liza and Marcus decided to have the party catered. The next thing - it is 3:00am and Julie is in her neighbor’s bath tub. Marcus said the party was over and he was taking out trash when he spotted her passed out in his back yard. He carried her into the house to clean her up as she appeared to have been beaten- her clothed were torn, muddy, and bloody. Julie cannot remember what happened after she drank the wine.
A few weeks later Julie discovers she is pregnant.

At first I was puzzled by all the 5 star ratings. I was sorry about what happened to Julie but was finding her and her nasty language unlikeable ~ actually many of the characters were unlikeable. (I know it is just me! ~ I have a low tolerance for f-bombs and these characters were testing my tolerance.)

I read a lot of psychological thrillers so was sure a twist was going to happen. Typically the twist is in ‘whodunit’ - I was rather sure I knew who THAT was.
As we get closer to uncovering ‘whodunit’ WOW things happen.
Yep this kept me up!
Not a solid 5 for me but sure close.

I always enjoy reading the authors’ ‘Acknowledgements’. There is no doubt she did her research. I especially like hen an author writes about these types of situations that they offer resources. Which author, Meghan Joyce Tozer] does in several pages ~ resources such things as Domestic abuse ‘Hotlines’ to ‘Birth Rights’.
I have no doubt we are going to be hearing more about this author!

Thank you NetGalley, Wattpad books and Meghan Joyce Tozer for giving me this arc in exchange for an honest review.

➜Trigger Warnings: Rape , Psychosis, Abortion
➜Synopsis: When Julie wakes up in the bathtub of her neighbor half naked. She doesn't tell anyone she was sexually assaulted until she learns she is still carrying the rapist child.
➜Thoughts: I was a little disappointed when I read the book because I expected more suspects so I saw the twist coming and the plot line was a little confusing. It was interesting to see her struggles as a new mom and I love how developed the characters were.
➜Conclusion: The plot was amazing but the story lines were a bit confusing and the ending was rushed so I give it a 3.5 ⭐.

This is a debut book and starts out with Julie and Owen, a happy couple who talk about wanting to have a baby. Fast forward to a party at the neighbor's house where Julie wakes up half naked in her neighbor's bathtub with no memory of the night before. Julie doesn't know how to tell her husband and then she finds out she is pregnant.....

This is a solid debut, I was engaged with Julie and her story. There was a nice twist, but I was a bit confused by that point. The author went from past to present but it wasn't clear which was which. It also didn't follow the assault as much as I would have hoped or liked. Overall, I believe this author to be very promising and I would definitely read her next book. I give this 3 to 3.5 stars!

A big thank you to Scribner and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book!

From netgally’s book description:

Before . . .
Life is idyllic for Julie Porter and her husband Owen. They’ve bought their dream house in the Berkshires; their careers are on the upswing; and they have the world at their fingertips. They’ve never been so in love. They’ve never been happier. The only thing that’s missing is a baby--but Julie’s got a plan, and they’re right on schedule.

Until Owen falls ill with food poisoning, leaving Julie to attend a neighborhood holiday party alone. When she wakes up, half-naked in her neighbor’s bathtub, Julie doesn’t know how to tell Owen, the police, her friends--anyone--that she has been sexually assaulted. So she keeps it secret until she realizes that she’s pregnant with her assailant’s baby.

After . . .
Life is unmanageable for Julie. She can’t function in the world with a newborn, and she’s unable to be present for her husband, her family, her friends. Desperate to solve the mystery of what happened to her, Julie’s driven to more and more erratic behaviour, until the truth about that night is revealed.

……………………….

Let me start with what I liked. The author writes well! Your eyes drift smoothly from page to page without interruptions, although the descriptions could be too detailed at certain points. In some places I felt emotionally involved too, so the author certainly can connect with the reader. The behaviors of the characters fitted with their personalities, but I feel some of the characters were a bit shallow and hollow. The book’s twist was surprising for sure, but unfortunately it came at a very confusing point in the book, where the author jumped back and forth between recollections and what happened right then in a way that confounded me. I actually had to read some of the last paragraphs again to not miss anything and shake off the confusion. There were also some unanswered questions that the reader will struggle with (or maybe it’s just me) for example how Liza communicated with Julie in the end? All in all, the ending felt rushed.

The book wasn’t thrilling enough, either. I only felt mildly curios as to what would happen next, maybe because the plot didn’t have any hints or possible suspects, from what I gathered.

Thanks to netgally and the publisher for this arc!

This story was more than a domestic thriller. It’s a story about sexual assault and it’s aftermath.

Julie and her husband, Owen are living in their dream house in Berkshires, with successful careers. All that is missing is a baby. Julie is unsure about becoming a mother as her childhood was not idyllic living with distant and unemotional parents.

Julie attends a neighbor’s holiday party without Owen and the next thing she knows she wakes up in a bathtub half naked and confused as to what happened. The owner of the house, Marcus tells her he found her in the backyard passed out and doesn’t know what happened to her. Julie is bruised and battered and knows she has been sexually assaulted. She decides not to tell her husband until weeks later when she finds out she is pregnant with her rapist’s child. The police do not take her claim seriously and she is left to solve the mystery of what happened that night by herself.

I really can’t go into any more detail about the story without giving away spoilers. This story is gut wrenching, heart breaking and powerful. Julie is such a complex character, and the author does a remarkable job of making you feel all her emotions, from confusion to shame, to feeling unloved, to doubting she can ever be a good mother due to the treatment from her own mother during her childhood. Owen is a thoughtful husband grasping with the reality that his wife is carrying a rapist’s child. While I did figure out where the story was going around the 80% mark, it did not take away from my overall enjoyment of this book. The ending was spine-tingling and will leave you speechless. I have no problems giving this book the 5-star rating it deserves.

Freak-a-deek Rubber Ducky! 😳😯🤯😳🤯

Absolutely, undeniably thrilling & crazy suspenseful! This novel left me absolutely speechless. An incredible psychological thriller, with one heckuva twist for an ending. You won't see it coming! It provoked so many emotions out of me and it was welcomed. Be prepared to gasp, drop your jaw & have eyes as wide as an owl while reading this. I highly suggest a bowl of ice cream (or your favourite treat) & a pet aside you while reading this because... WOW!

Mყ 𝐒ყɴ𝐨ρѕιѕ: Julie & Owen are happily married and finally thinking about starting a family; how they're at the point in their lives where they have their dream home, financially ready and in their prime. But be careful what you hope for... When Julie has to attend her neighbours and close friends party alone one night, it will set a disaster in motion. Julie remembers the party up until a certain point, & then she wakes up in a her best friends bath tub, half naked. It's clear she's been assaulted but she keeps it quiet. Until weeks later, she's pregnant with the attacker's child. When the baby arrives, it is everything and nothing she expected. She will have to come to face what actually happened that night and worse, what's happening with her now.

Man oh man this novel was something else! I devoured it in two and a half hours, pausing for nothing! I was gripped, hooked, reeled like I was baited by the biggest bowl of homemade Mac & Cheese. I regret nothing! The ending tore at my heart strings and yet was the perfect ending to this unbelievable psychological thriller. Absolutely, remarkably fabulous! Nothing could have prepared me for that astounding conclusion - but so beautiful nonetheless.

Thank you Net Galley and the publisher for an ARC of this book for my honest review.
This book really surprised me with the haunting story of a happy couple that had everything but what they truly wanted a baby. The wife Julie wanted to wait until she finished renovations on their home. Her husband Owen was very eager to start planning for a baby. Little did they know there would be a baby sooner than they expected but Owen wasn’t the father. The story really takes off from there and a big decision needs to be made that will affect so many people. This was a great book that I loved and would recommend but be aware triggers of sexual assault.

Night Forgotten is a compelling jigsaw puzzle, a domestic thriller you won’t be able to put down and when you have finished it, you’ll want to reread it to see what you missed.
It grabs you from the first chapter when Julie Porter, having just given birth, muses “Owen will be struggling with this for a long time. After all, Thomas is not his son.”

Julie and Owen Porter have moved to the Berkshires as their careers have flourished. They are madly in love and planning to start a family. So when Owen comes down with food poisoning before the glamorous neighbors’ Christmas party and Julie prepares to go by herself, you are remembering that first chapter and thinking, no, no Julie. Bad idea. Yes, it is. I hate spoilers so you are on your own from here. Burt listen to me: buy or borrow this book. It’s like nothing I’ve read before. This is Megan Joyce Tozer’s debut novel and it will take your breath away. She’s going to be a powerhouse author. 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGallery, Wattpad Books and Megan Joyce Tozer for this ARC.

An explosive and heart rendering psychological feminist thriller. Julie and Owen Porter have a wonderful life, they are extremely happy and are contemplating an addition to their family. Their lives are thrown into turmoil when Julie is drugged and sexually assaulted at a neighbour's party. Julie has no memory of her sexual assault and the Porter's devastation is compounded when Julie becomes pregnant. The story is skilfully divided between the events of 'Then' and 'Now' that lead the reader to an astonishing and beautiful ending. Well worth five stars and recommended to all feminist thriller and psychological thriller readers.

Trigger warning sexual assault

This book is stunning circumstances that have happened to a lot of women in that they go to a place with people they trust and end up victim. This book tackles does sensitive subject in frank terms. I was absolutely devastated by the main character’s story. The book feels accurate on what it feels like to be a victim.

5 big stars!!!! I was SO excited to get an ARC of this book, and jumped into reading the second it came through. A truly remarkable read on a topic that so many don’t want to talk or ever think would happen to them. The writing was excellent, the characters well-developed, and the ending blew me away! Thank you to Edelweiss, the publisher and the author! You have a new super fan, so please write your next novel soon!

I stumbled into this novel without any expectations but the premise was so different I wondered: how could this possibly turn out? The writing style and story was so immediately riveting (and I dislike mysteries, thrillers and sad/happy endings) that I read it in about one sitting. This is a fabulous read - emotional, well written, entertaining, unique premise. I host four book clubs - I am recommending it as soon as it comes out for all four clubs. It was totally unexpected and left a lot of questions and reflection. Entertaining and with substance. Bravo.

This book was sent to me by Netgalley for review. Mystery and intrigue. A protagonist who survives a tragedy…a husband and his mom…are they for real? What will be happen next? Who will care for the child? This is a dark mysterious story written by an author who surprises the reader.
