I absolutely loved it! I was hooked from the first chapter, and Christine Rees brings Faye’s adventure to life with unique characters and a fast-moving plot. This novel had me laughing one moment and gasping with shock a few pages later - a must read for any fans of YA fiction! I thoroughly enjoyed and will forever support Rees and her amazing work!

"Now I see dead people"
The most frightening thing about 16 year old Faye's ability to see dead people is that she sees them as a premonition before they are murdered and yet in the excellently written debut novel The Hidden Legacy by brilliant author Christine Rees she cannot stop her father's death.
The brilliance of this novel is that it combines everything readers of fantasy, YA paranormal, coming of age and comic books love. Faye just wants to be "normal" but when she makes friends at her new school who can control someone's mind, seem to be invisible (yes seem to be - no spoilers), and zap a person's life energy her loneliness and low self-esteem dissipate as she slowly comes to accept that maybe she isn't a cursed but a gifted human.
There are many sub plots from the actual hidden legacy, which is connected to the salem witch trials and creatively presented, to life decisions when Faye sees Rachel's murder and must decide to either keep quiet and risk Rachel's life or tell her about the premonition and risk her own life.
There are heartfelt relationships, my favorite being Ethan and Faye, especially since he is far from being "normal". There are action packed physical and emotional scenes that are crafted with literacy precision so that they played out like a movie in my mind. I saw it all and want to see more. Fortunately Book 2, The Broken Rivalry is available Now!
If you are a fan of shows like Medium, Supernatural, The Ghost Whisperer, X Men, The Avengers (mostly Wanda), and any teen drama from 90210 to Riverdale this is the book you want to read.
I received a free copy of this book from the author via #netgalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

Wow, I saw this book and decided to read it on a whim because the premise and the cover intrigued me. I am so glad I decided to read it! This book reads quite fast and I was sucked in to this world and characters. I have to say when I first started reading it, I was not expecting to like it since it didn't seem to be my usual kind of read. The mystery revolving around the characters leaves you wanting to know more and I would like to read the second book in this duology!
*Minor spoilers*I also loved the romance in this, thought it was going to be a big love triangle, but YAY!

I thought The Hidden Legacy was great. It is a YA story about a teenager named Faye Lithyer who after the death of her father, is moving in with her grandma in Astoria, Oregon. She has a special power where she can see a person's death. In Astoria, she meets up with a group of kids at the high school and they befriend her. Things are looking up except for the fact that she has a premonition that one of her new friends is going to get murdered. So the book basically follows along with her and her new group of friends who also have various powers. At some point, witch trials are introduced, and then the lineage of witches who have powers similar to the teens. There is a lot going on in the story and many characters and powers to remember, but it kind of flows nicely and is not too overwhelming. It has a well-written group of teens who work together pretty well as a team. The adults are not really involved too much and there is a lot of mystery surrounding them, which adds to the story. I look forward to reading more about Faye and the crew in the next book.
