Natalie owns a golf course and small restaurant. She's wary of relationships after her husband, son and parents passed away in a car accident. But learning that her husband wasn't who he said he was might have been an even bigger shock for her. For that reason she keeps to herself, doesn't date and raises her young daughter all the while trying to keep her golf course and restaurant going with minimal help so she can save money.

Valerian is an immortal enforcer that works for the Argeneau family. He golfs at night and even though Natalie thinks it's weird, he's a paying customer so she doesn't say anything.

Valerian is golfing one night when his golf cart runs out of gas and he ends up saving Natalie after what they all think is just an accident. He's kept to himself all these months he's been playing golf there so he hasn't met Natalie before now but once he reaches her and meets her, he's sure she is his mate. But that can be very tricky with a mortal and even more tricky for her since she doesn't want to get involved with anyone.

Once Valerian thinks she is in danger though, he calls in the troops and they just kind of take over and let her know she might be in danger. She knows they are all there to keep her and little Mia safe so she puts up a lot less fight when people start taking over her life than I might have in the same situation. Little by little she can see that Valerian is a good guy and she is attracted to him and she thinks he might be attracted to her as well but she still takes things slow...for a while. Once they give into their feelings, there's really no going backwards until she finds out about what he is. She doesn't take it well in the beginning, not that I can really blame her. So while it takes a little time for her to trust him and the others, it's really Valerian's sister that helps her in that regard.

All the while they are trying to track down the serial killer, The Angel Maker who they think might be behind the dangerous scenarios that have happened to Natalie. This is the 35th book in this series and I really enjoyed this book as much as I have enjoyed the other books in this series.

After the Bite
Argeneau Series - Book 35
By Lynsay Sands

Avon Books - October 2022

Vampire Romance

The fact that one of her customers booked a round of golf late in the day, sometimes finishing in the dark, didn't bother Natalie one bit. As the owner of the golf course, she was pleased to have the reliable business. She just wished all her employees were as reliable as Mr. Valerian MacKenzie. While it was quite pleasant to see Valerian for the first time when he returned to the clubhouse early, having to lug a gas can to his golf cart that had run out of gas was not so pleasant. Even worse was the suspicion she was being followed in the dark.

Valerian had earned his break and was doing what he enjoyed most. Golfing. He never expected to rescue someone, or to discover that the woman who owned the golf course he had frequented for months might be his life mate. But it was the fact that he had to come to Natalie's rescue that was not welcome. The Angel-Maker was a serial killer that had stopped once winter ended. Valerian and his fellow Immortal Enforcers wondered if they had just missed signs that he had changed his MO and possibly had Natalie in his sights.

After the Bite is another fun and funny romance that includes a mystery and is chock-full of entertaining characters. Natalie is a true heroine, not allowing the difficulties of her past to define her. I enjoyed watching as the Argeneau extended family came in to help, not only to protect Natalie, but also assist with her business. Valerian proved to be the perfect hero for her. I look forward to the next romance in the Argeneau series.

I love the Argeneau Vamps but some of the books can seem repetitive. However i really liked this one and it could be that I've not read the series in a few years but I definitely recommend this as your next read.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

I have not read many of the books in this series so was pleasantly surprised that I could follow the characters and any backstory as it was explained very clearly and previous couples were introduced.

This book is about Natalie who owns a golf course and Valerian, an immortal. During the investigation into the Snow Angel killer, Valerian meets Natalie and they believe that the killer is after her but this really doesn't fit the profiles of the serial killer.

Valerian knows that Natalie is his life mate and has to ease her into the world of immortals and hope that she decides to stay with him when she finds out what he really is.

I guessed who the culprit was but not for the right reasons and there were enough clues that I should have figured it out!

The book was filled with drama, intrigue, and sizzling attraction so it was hard to put it down! There were so many parts of the book that I enjoyed but I have to say that when Natalie walked into the RV and saw all the guys drinking from blood bags - that was hilarious! Of course, Natalie did not react well but fortunately, they were able to get past that and had their HEA!

Don't be intimidated by the number of books written previous to this one, the author is very good about giving readers enough background that if you start here or just need a refresher you won't be lost.

It's always fun to revisit Lynsay Sand's Argeneau series catching up with characters we've met from other books
who've come to help out and meeting a few new ones Book 35 After the Bite doesn't disappoint.
This is a paranormal romance with witty conversations, some suspense, laughter, family and a touch of humor.

I received this ARC from Avon/Harper Voyager and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Loved reading the mesmerizing and amazing paranormal story. When Valerian, a vampire enforcer, meets the owner of the golf club, Natalie, Valerian discovers he can't read her mind or control her, and when their hands briefly touch, there is a spark of electricity between them. Even though Valerian is ecstatic to find Natalie as his life mate, her life is in extreme danger. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, full of mystery and romance, and a must read love story.

I have been in love with Argeneau series by Lynsay Sands for years and i'm always excited when a new one comes out. Long series are fuel for my soul so the second I knew the 35th book ‘After the Bite’ was coming out I had to get my hands on it. I loved the romance stories about main family but the the Enforcers stories are so amazing and entertaining. They are romantic and suspenseful reminding me of an paranormal version of silhouette intrigue books that I borrowed from my mom as a teen. I found the setting to be fun and new. I never really thought about a golf course being a romantic place or the set for a mystery.

Valerian is a over 200 year old Scottish immortal enforcer who works for the Canadian branch. After spending all winter chasing down rogue immortals and trying to fixture out if series murders dubbed the angel killer are being done by one of them. Now that they have to wait until the first snow of him to strike again Valerian just wants to relax on his new farm and play 18 holes of night golf.

Natalie inherited her parents golf course three years ago when in one night her life was turned upside down after a car accident killed her parents, husband and young son. Now she has gone from up and come chef to golf course owner where she cooks, cleans, severs and mows from sun up to after sun down all while being a single mother to a toddler. But when one of her employees forgets to fill the gas tank on one of her golf carts she gets her first look at the mysterious twilight golfer that has been visiting her course for the last six months.

He can’t read her. He realizes that he might have met his life mate after meeting the owner of the course and trying to stop her from refunding his golf game for a small mistake. However, he became convinced that the angel killer was after her after seeing her run into a water trap as if she was being pursued, grass in the shape of angel wings and angel statues appearing out of nowhere. Can he keep her safe.

An easy and super fun read that offers suspense, sexiness, and a super-hot vampire who is surprisingly good at golf—and with kids. Definitely one of my favorites from this long-running, much-loved series.

As book 35 (THIRTY-FIVE! Overwhelming, I know) in this series, After the Bite should, by all rights, feel a little tired, a little familiar. And while it’s true I’ve skipped more than a few of the Argeneau books, it’s not because I found them lacking or samey-same this far into the adventures of Canada’s clan of immortals; I simply cannot keep up with Lynsay Sands’ prolificness.

Yes, aspects of the stories have changed over the years—the passing out was not so much a feature of the early books, for example—but the core remains the same. And what makes Sands a Queen with a capital Q is her ability still to capture my attention and my heart each and every time I dive back into this series.

And capture my heart, she absolutely did. Natalie, the mortal owner of a golf club, and Valerian, an immortal enforcer (and avid links walker), faced death while falling in love, and their story was a page-turner from the start. This couple was really likable—Valerian being calm, capable, and respectful of his life mate, knowing her past made her wary, and Natalie finding her trust and letting go of perfection after loss. Honestly, I couldn’t wait for them to agree to forever together.

Despite wishing for a little more to close out this book, I feel pretty comfortable saying that whether you’ve read any, all, or none of these books in the past, you will get a kick out of it. There are some cute moments—the hokey pokey, anyone?—some nail-biting ones and a whole host of immortal cameos to reward long-time readers. A giant dog, an adorable kid, and, of course, the famed shared pleasure that results in quick and dirty-hot sex scenes round out After the Bite to make a super enjoyable paranormal romance that might just convince you 34 books isn’t that many to catch up on . . .

Another fun and satisfying Argeneau/Enforcer book! I enjoyed Valerian and Natalie's story, it felt a little different from usual. The two meet up when Natalie is attacked on her golf course, Valerian believes it could be the work of a serial killer the Enforcers have been trying to hunt down. He realizes Natalie is a potential life mate and is thrilled to find her, but obviously not thrilled about the whole serial killer target thing. Many characters we've met from other books come to help out and we meet a few new ones- I enjoyed catching up with old friends but readers new to the series wouldn't feel like they were missing anything starting here. Loved grumpy Lucian and Leigh trying to deal with him!

One of the things I liked best here was that despite the obvious chemistry between the two, Valerian tries to romance Natalie the old fashioned way. He wants her to know him and like him for himself, and this includes Natalie's young daughter. Natalie has had a really rough time and I was amazed by how much she rolled with things (her therapist must be amazing!).

Fun characters, humor, and a big fuzzy dog mean a winner for me! Once again, Lynsay Sands does not disappoint.

After the Bite is the 35th installment in the Argeneau series by Lynsay Sands, I love how unique each couple and book are after 35 books in the series. There is an intriguing mystery aspect of this one that is a bit chilling but is sure to make your heart race all at the same time. After the Bite is a marvelous book to add to this ever-growing series.

I liked that this story had some interesting, different elements to it. Golf for one thing is something you wouldn't normally think to expect in this kind of story. But it works, and it works well. His current job is something that he is good at and has been enjoying. Valerian may have many well defined "jobs" in his past but golf is a passion for him. I enjoyed that the friendship starts out before the romance really kicks in.
The single mom angle I found enjoyable, and the emotions Natalie went through were both believable and easy to relate to. Her daughter Mia and their big white dog add smiles too.
There are "teams" of family and friends from Valerian show up for protection detail. They are good at what they do and they add some humor as well. Not only do they have the best people on site but also some high tech gadgets to help. They also are scratching their heads at how the person after Natalie keeps getting so close.
Good twists and surprises lead to the biggest surprise of all. That would be the "who" and the "why" of the person who has been so determined to kill Natalie. It all leads up to a good ending.

LOL I think manpicker and guydar is on everyones mind who read this book. It was a fabulous blend of suspense, romance, paranormal, laughter and family. I shook my head when Valerian goes to a golf course, I thought really? Color me befuddled. Then I found out his family owns them. I love the steely core of Natalie. The Argeneau books are family, the Immortals are family and its so great to see them pop up in new books. I snickered with Lucian on the phone with Valerian, discussing something his wife shared with him. No spoilers here. I loved the family Natalie has - trying to evade spoilers. This one had a little more suspense and I thought it really played out well and helped to make the series even more enjoyable. Many thanks for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #Avon&harpervoyager #Afterthebite #Lyndsaysands #netgalley

After the Bite is the 35th installment in the Argeneau series by Lynsay Sands. I am always excited for when we get more of this world, and I adore long series like this and these books are so entertaining. I will say that this book was so impressive to me, It completely pulled me in more than this series has done lately. And also this one had such a fun setting with a golf course and I haven't ever read a golf themed romance before and I am realizing how much I loved it and I need more of this.

The set up of the story is that Valerian, who is a immortal enforcer, and has come to Canada to relax with this golf course. He has been coming to this course for months but when the owner's life is put at risk, and meets her for the first time, he realizes that she is his lifemate. Natalie, has had her heart burned by the father of her children. She lost her husband who ended up having another wife and child and not really her husband, but is killed in an accident with their son while she was pregnant. Now she has worked hard to built the golf course and give a good life for her daughter. But when her life is put in danger, Valerian ends up being her rock but also introduces her to a life she ever imagined...

I absolutely adored this story in so many ways. I adored both of the main characters. Valerian and Natalie are such a strong match. I really adored their chemistry from the very beginning. They click right away and neither of them fight their relationship for very long. I also had a blast with some old favorites and we get Lucien PLUS Leigh. (we don't always see his lady and it added something more to the story to see her play such a role here). But Natalie really sees Lucien for who he is and it was entertaining. I also enjoyed seeing the heroine being a single mother. We don't see kids or family centered themes in this series and when I see it happen, it just adds more depth to the story. I was endeared in seeing how the mystery was developed and the villain of the story was someone I LEAST expected so it made for such a surprising climax in the end. I will say that this story was such a blast of fun from the romance, to the setting, to the mystery and the delightful side cast of characters.

Overall I found After The Bite to be a snazzy, chillin' sexy romp of a romance that delivers in its spooky sensuality, characters to charm your heart and with just the right balance of emotion and intrigue.

This book was a quick read. Lynsay Sands never disappoints. I love how she keeps us around some of the characters from the previous books all the while introducing us to new ones. Natalie has quite a shock from her past that has Valerian cautious when it comes to pursuing her. I absolutely adore Mia and Sinbad they are just too cute. I love how they move cohesively and the care Valerian take with not only Natalie, but Mia and Sinbad as well. I can’t wait to see what else she has for us in the upcoming books.

I love this series so I was really excited to start this one but I've also gotten to the point where I'm not sure where else we can go from here. And yet Lynsay Sands always finds a way because this one felt honestly refreshing and new. I liked the plot behind why they were protecting Natalie and I found that the characters were really developed and fit together well. This book had one of the better meet cutes if you ask me as well I thought it was kind of touching that they met when he had to return the golf cart and then the plot really took off from there. My one main issue with this book is that there was just far too much internal dialogue compared to action and actual dialogue between the characters. I also felt that things moved really quickly at the end to the point that the end was a blur even though it was kind of the heart of the conflict of the book. Overall I liked this one! Definitely a solid Argeneau book and I give it 3.5/4 stars!

This is an entertaining, well-written, fast paced, steamy, paranormal romance novel. It has a likable, strong and intelligent female protagonist, a kind and caring male protagonist, sizzling chemistry, a cute dog, an adorable toddler, humor, wit, suspense, twists and turns, and a happily ever after ending. It is an excellent edition to Ms. Sands' outstanding Argeneau series, and can easily be read and enjoyed as a stand alone, but it is even better when read as part of the series.
NetGalley, Avon Books and Harper Voyager kindly provided me with an ARC of this novel, and this is my honest opinion.

This was a very good story. Natalie ran a local golf club but what she really loved was the cooking part of the restaurant. She had a customer that only golfed at night and finally she met him. Valarian knew at once she was his lifemate. The story of how they were made immortal was quite interesting. Valarian and his enforcers thought a serial killer was after her, but at the end we discover who is really is. Natalie had the cutest little girl and her circumstances were sad. She was making the best of it though.
The story had everything going for it. Some romance, drama, supernatural and good friends.

If you have read any of the books from the authors Argeneau series, you will enjoy this.

Natalie is a chef that runs a golf course that belonged to her parents while caring for her 2 year old daughter Mia. She has lost all her family due to an accident, except for Mia, and unfortunately that was only the beginning of her nightmare.

Valerian is an immortal Enforcer, one that hunts immortals that kill humans for blood. He does enjoy Golf though and plays many evenings at the course Natalie owns. One evening, Valerian ends up saving Natalie from someone who was stalking her on the Golf course. This is when he discovers Natalie is his life mate.

Valerian thinks it could be a Serial Killer that had gone silent because of the clues he left behind, He and his team feel this killer is a rouge immortal that they must capture and destroy. The Enforcers come in and set up around the property so they can apprehend the killer

In the meantime, there is an attraction growing between Natalie and Valerian. She likes him as a person, likes his interaction with her daughter and is physically attracted to him.

Is this really a serial killer looking for it's next victim? Can Valerian keep Natalie safe? Will she consent to being his life mate?

I enjoyed this story as I have most of this series. It is a stand alone read and I like the humor Ms. Sands throws in throughout,

This story has a unique spin on what I think of as vampires but are here called immortals. Valerian has found his life mate Natalie, who is mortal, and is unfortunately being stalked. I loved Natalie’s daughter Mia and Sin her canine companion. The story is a fun read, full of action and I enjoyed it.
