This book was much longer and much more in depth than I had anticipated; it took me quite a while to finish.

Although an enjoyable read, and it did do a good job of explaining the depth and complexities of the tensions, I did find myself wishing that there was more of a personal touch to the account. It felt at points to be explaining more than expressing, where what I wanted from this was a personal insight to the lived experience. Other than this, I did enjoy this read and found it to be very educational and informative.

Overall, it was absolutely fascinating and as a teacher of Buddhism I will be recommending this to my students. Thank you for the EARC!

It is not every day that we get such a deep, intimate, and educated insight into one of the most important social, political and religious conflicts of our time.

This book proposes an entertaining, interesting, thoughtful, and even critical approach that allows us to better understand such a complex person as the Dalai Lama, as well as how he faced the Chinese invasion and the years after it.

For anyone who likes politics and history, it would be highly recommended to give this work a try. The author’s writing is clear, detailed, and explanatory, without ever failing to give us his points of view, which are more valid today than ever.
