Totally gripping
A man and his granddaughter have been murdered just before the start of her 4th birthday party and it’s up to DI Siv Drummond and her team to solve the case
This book is set from many different perspectives but the main characters and points of view are from Siv and her team and I really enjoyed being able to see the investigation from the different angles. I will admit that I do at times struggle with Siv, she lost her husband and moved to the south coast to work but she can be self centred and for lack of a better word, annoying. However she is also a brilliant detective and I have to respect her for that, she doesn’t settle and comes up with ideas that might seem crazy but she manages to solve some truly strange cases
This story had me hooked from the very beginning, what can be more dramatic than a murder just before a birthday party? And I couldn’t figure out who the killer might have been, it was a total shock at the end when I found out as it was someone I wasn’t expecting but I can’t carry on too much in case I accidentally give away spoilers so anyways, this book had me questioning what was happening, what secrets people were keeping and why
As the story developed it pulled me deeper and deeper until by the end I was unable to put it down and as such, this book is one that I really enjoyed reading and it’s a crime drama that I would recommend to people who love a story that will keep you questioning and that will keep you on the edge of your seat

Murder by the Shore by Gretta Mulrooney is a surprising and devastating thriller. The book begins with a horrible set of murders. No one is what they seem and everyone seems suspicious. From there, hold on right as danger lurks around every corner. Readers of thrillers will love this book. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

Murder by the Shore is the fourth book in the D.I. Siv Drummond mystery series, and while extremely well-writen as well as interesting, the denouement just didn't seem to fit in the spirit of the overall story, as if the author was really looking for reasons for why someone would act as they did. I mean, the person killed a child, so it had to be believable and for me, it didn't quite work.

I enjoyed the characters in this book and thought they were all interesting. DI Siv Drummond is my favourite character and she really carries the reader through the book as you learn a lot of the secrets, twists and turns, through her narrative. Though still dealing with her grief at the loss of her husband, she is attempting to enter the dating market again, something I find interesting as I can't even imagine having to do something like that after having been married for so long. Siv is not an easy character to get to know, but I definitely empathized with her need to be alone and to experience that feeling of isolation, she is still grieving after all.

The other characters were well-written as well, but the parents do seem somewhat stereotypical in nature, with the dad coming across as this unfeeling, self-absorbed person, and the mother coming across as a bundle of nerves with something to hide. While well-written and interesting, there wasn't a lot of depth to them. I was fascinated by the sisters' relationship as well and thought the author could have developed that a bit more.

The plot moved quite quickly, with some interesting twists and turns, some of them predictable. Personally, it didn't take long to figure out why the dad was so distant although I did think his reaction was a bit extreme. I thought the author did a good job peeling away the layers of the story to reveal the information as the investigation progressed in such a way that allowed the reader to figure things out rather than lead the reader along. I hate being spoon-fed information and prefer to figure things out so this was more to my style. I also appreciated the descriptions of the area as it seems like a beautiful location.

Murder by the Shore was an interesting murder mystery, full of twists and turns, even if some of them were predictable. With a host of intriguing characters, especially the DI, it made the reading experience that much more fun. I did have a problem with the actual mystery, in particular the ending, as I thought it was a bit far-fetched and didn't seem to match the overall spirit of the story and the characters, but it did make me think how past actions can affect future ones. This can be read as a standalone, but I do recommend reading the previous instalments to get background information on DI Drummond.

What an enthra!ling police procedural! I have read some of the Tyrone Swift books by Ms. Mulrooney, and this book is every bit as good as those books. I am definitely a Greta Mulrooney fan. This story had a lot of intrigue as well as some surprises, the biggest one being the identity of the killer. I highly recommend this book to other readers of police procedurals.

Part of a series featuringt Detective Siv Drummond. Two murders to solve and plenty of suspects. A little drawn out but an ok read with suspense and twists.

Murder by the Shore is another exciting episode in Gretta Mulrooney's Siv Drummond series. In this episode Siv has to solve another gruesome murder, and a double murder at that. Little Lyra gets murdered by suffocation on her forth birthday, while her grandfather's head is bashed in with a saucepan in the kitchen.

inspector Drummond does not want for suspects in this investigation because there seem to be quite a lot of prospects around, including the parents who certainly seem to hide some secrets. Of course in the end the suspect is to be revealed somebody quite unexpected.

At the start of the series I had to get used to the protagonist a bit but I've come to like the series the more episodes I read.

4 stars for this one, and rising. Have great expectations for the next episode.

I want to thank Joffe Books and the author for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I received this book from NetGalley

A little girl and her grandfather were murdered right before the little girls 4th birthday party.
When the detective arrives the little girl is at the bottom of the garden dead and her grandfather is in the kitchen of the house.
While they investigate the murders is the killer ready for his next victim?
I found this book ok. It did not draw me into the story thus I had some difficulty getting through it.

This book was fine. I didn't love it or hate it. It's well written, the writing is polished. It's the first book I've read in this series and it was perfectly fine as a stand alone.

When they revealed whodunit, it took me a moment to realise who they were even talking about.. So.. I was surprised.. Which made for a very nice change! But I was disappointed. I thought the who and the why was weak. I do wish it had been someone else.

I ran out of time to read this one, not normally one for crime books but it started off great.
Couldn't really get lost in the book though, however that isn't the authors fault.
I am still given 5 stars as what I did read, was very well written.
I'll hopefully try this one again in the future!

I have read this series from the beginning and I hate to say it but this one was a bit of a letdown. I figured out who the murderer was and it just didn’t click for me. Also there was another situation in the story that did not really get resolved. Worst of all, there is a bit of a cliffhanger and I hate that. I still like this author and will continue with this series as well as the series with private detective Tyrone Swift.

Gretta Mulrooney expertly blends danger, menace and tension in her latest Detective Siv Drummond novel, Murder by the Shore.

When Siv moved back to her Sussex hometown, she had hoped to lead a quieter life at a gentle pace – she certainly never expected to find herself entangled in shocking investigations that proved that evil thrives even in the most idyllic of settings. In her latest case she is called to a beautiful coastal house where she encounters a heart-stopping scene: the murder of a four year old and her grandfather. Who could have done such a thing? And who could have killed a four year old girl minutes before her birthday party?

Siv is determined to get to the truth. But in order to find out who is behind these macabre murders she needs to look deeper into the many skeletons that the family is hiding in their closet. The more Siv probes, the more she uncovers terrifying revelations that could point her straight to the murderer. Can Siv put whoever is responsible behind bars before another dead body is found?

Gretta Mulrooney is a very talented writer of crime fiction who always creates fiendishly clever and highly enjoyable thrillers where nothing is what it initially seems. Dark, terrifying and very cleverly constructed, Murder by the Shore is a nail-biting whodunnit that kept me guessing till the end and had me floored by a final jaw-dropping twist I certainly did not see coming.

Gritty, disturbing and captivating, Murder by the Shore is another fantastic Gretta Mulrooney mystery readers will struggle to put down.

A little girl and her grandfather were murdered right before the little girls 4th bday party. A detective arrives to the horrific scene. The little girl is at the bottom of the garden dead. Her grandfather in Wendy's house dead in the kitchen with his head caved in .As secrets begin to come up the killer is planning to kill again, can the detective stop it before it happens. This is the 4th in the series I would reccomend reading the others first to follow the character development as I was lost to some, I plan on going back and reading the others.

This is 4th in the Det. Shiv Drummond series. A little girl and her grandfather are both murdered at the start of the book and the mystery moves on from there. There are lots of suspects including the parents and Drummond has her work cut out for her. This story is fast paced and I had a hard time putting it down. I can’t wait for the 5th in this wonderful series. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.

This series features Detective Siv Drummond and is completely character driven with well plotted mysteries that keep you guessing until the very end. I respect Siv and enjoy reading about her complicated family ties echoed in a plot of an extremely dubious family who looks perfect from the outside living in a small community packed with lies, some known to some but not the others. I had no idea of the murderer - thanks for deceiving me!

4 year old Lyra is looking forward to her birthday party and eagerly awaiting the arrival of her friends, however when the friends arrive and knock no one answers...

The discovery of the 4 year olds lifeless body and the bizarre way in which her grandfathers dead body has been left start what becomes a case that DI Siv Drummond and her team are struggling to find a motive and a suspect for

What entails though is something none of them saw coming

Four year old Lyra is excited about her fourth birthday party. It had all been arranged with the final deliveries being taken care of by Tom, her grandfather, until her parents get home from work. At the appointed time guests start to arrive but when there is no reply at the door one of the mothers goes round the back to find Tom bludgeoned to death & Lyra lying dead beside her new playhouse. DI Siv Drummond is in charge of the case. She finds Lyra's parents difficult to get through to- Lyra's aunt seems more upset, although that could be due to her weed habit! The FLO finds his help is not much use to the family or the police. There are many twists in the story which keeps the interest. I liked the police team although there wasn't much to lie about the victims' family!

I don't know how I've missed this series. I will be on the lookout for more. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

D I Siv Drummond, a widow who lives in a converted wagon, is called out to a murder of a little girl and her grandfather, of all day's it's the little girl's birthday, and she has as a present a big wendy house in the garden
The family is indeed strange, but why kill a child. Lots of secrets but it seems to take forever to extract the information from the people who knew the family.
It was a good story but could be a bit slow in places. This is the 4th Siv Drummond so character referencing must have been done on the first book as it tells as if everyone knows who's who.
Easily read as a standalone novel as I assume the previous ones were with just the same players.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Joffe's books for an ARC copy, good, and worth a read.

This is my first Greta Mulrooney book and definitely won’t be my last. To be honest, I didn’t realize this was a part of a series so it can definitely be read as a stand-alone. I have now went back and read book 1 and 2 though because this book was great!

Lyra Pullman has been waiting for her fourth birthday party. When guests start to arrive, they find that Lyra and her grandfather have both been murdered. Lead investigator Siv Drummond finds many potential suspects and works to find out whodunnit.

This book kept a steady pace, and I couldn’t put this book down trying to figure out who was the culprit. The tension built with each page, and to be completely honest, I was completely surprised to find out who the murderer actually was!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and will be reading more from this author!

Thank you to NetGalley, Joffe Books and Greta Mulrooney for my ARC copy of Murder By The Shore in exchange for an honest review.

A young girl and her grandfather are found dead by an early guest to the little girl's 4th birthday party. DI Siv Drummond and her team have to research what turns out to be a highly dysfunctional family despite the outward trappings of a rich life-style, perfect house and lovely views. Well written and the team's characters are developing nicely.. Thanks to NetGalley and Joffe Books for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

What can I say? There are certain authors that I am more thankful that I stumbled upon and Greta Mulrooney certainly falls into that category.
Murder by the Shore is in keeping with all her other books and is a very enjoyable read and one of those books you hate to find coming to an end.
The characters are excellent, no complications like some have written into their lives, making them more down to earth and people you can connect to.
Can’t wait until the next one to come along.
Highly recommended.
