This is interesting! It's a compelling book, and one that is grounded in stories from other families -- much like many other self-help types of books, but I didn't find it as interspersed with general information that could be applied to one's own life as these books usually are. It feels like a tour through other people's lives, which invites more open-ended pondering about one's own.

As a nurse who has historically worked with vulnerable populations and in mental health care, I enjoyed the style that this book is written in. Seeing the genograms/family trees, and then reading the associated story portrayed the families as very real and relatable. I found myself reflecting on some of the situations I have been in with family members, and areas where I could continue to improve in conflict resolution and communication. I liked that the therapist included references to their own uncertainty and how they navigated through that. This book is great for anyone who is looking to learn more about themselves within their own family, as well as to how families manage different challenging situations.
