In this book we meet best friends Meghan and Tess, who have been friends for years, they decide to make some changes to their lives and head off on a trip to Meghan’s past.

I absolutely adore beach reads, they are definitely up there with my favourite genre, in fact my other favourite would be small towns so this book was the perfect read for me.

This book was such an easy quick fun read, though it had some twists and turns that I was not expecting to happen. It was a real heartwarming story and it really had some special moments in there.

We meet Rupert in the book and I have to say I adored this man so much, I had a very close relationship with my grandfather before he passed so this resonated with me deeply and I just thought he was a wonderful character. I loved how sweet Meghan was with him, she really cared a lot for him.

We also meet Toby, Rupert’s grandson and honestly I wasn’t sure how I felt about him at certain parts of the book, but that is how we were supposed to feel so the author did her job well.

Loved the setting and could envisage Pappys house as if I was there, I’d give anything to go back to my grandparents house and just take it all in ❤️

I loved the epilogue and thought it was the perfect ending to this lovely story ❤️

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

I love reading

Meghan’s dream was to become a professional chef in New York. Now, after waitressing for ten years, knowing that she can do so much better, quits her job, and with her friend Tess goes back to Hatteras Island.

She has an envelope that was given to her, holding items left to her when Pappy passed away, which she’s not opened as yet. Meghan is hoping that Tess and herself will find employment whilst they live in the cottage and plan what they wish to do long term.

Soon she meets Toby with his grandfather, as they are out having something to eat and is a left wondering why he calls her Hester and is so upset. Meghan learns that Rupert, is suffering from Dementia and thinks that she is his friend from years gone by.

The story was lovely as both the last abc present was joined together.

Highly recommend this book.

An Island Summer by Jenny Hale is the perfect beach read. In this refreshing read, we follow Meghan to Cape Hatteras as she wants to get out of New York City for the summer. Her friendship with Tess and the relationship she develops with Rupert are so wonderful! If you are looking for a lot of romance, this book is not full of it. But the overall story makes up for it. Jenny Hale is an amazing author and I enjoy reading her books!

A delightful novel with wonderful characters and plot. When her life has not turned out as she expected, Meghan returns to the Outer Banks home that her grandfather left her to sort out what she should do. While there, she becomes part of an Alzheimer patient, Rupert’s life, portraying an actress friend of his in the memories he relives. She has encounters with his grandson, Toby, as she tries to solve the mysteries surrounding Rupert, the actress, her grandmother and her grandfather. Plus, there is a huge spark of electricity coming from each encounter with Toby.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read “An Island Summer”. Jenny Hale did a beautiful job with this summer story about pursuing dreams and reliving the past. I read this book over Memorial weekend, and let me tell you that this was the best way to begin my summer.

Meghan Gray comes to the Outer Banks to live in her Pappy’s cottage. Along comes Tess Fuller her best friend and confidant. They embark on a journey to find what Meghan really wants to do with her life while enjoying the summer season by the ocean.

I also love how Rupert Meyers entered Meghan’s path opening a window into the past.

Enjoyable, memorable, and a warm summer story that will bring sunshine into your life.

"Your dreams are just your future stretching out in front of you. It's up to you to act on them." - Pappy

An Island Summer is a quick summer read with likeable characters. Jenny Hale does a great job of painting the scenery in all of her books. I can easily imagine myself there at the cabin or building the muffin cart.

It was fun watching Meghan evolve and find herself. Her relationship with Rupert was precious. Her relationship with Toby was inevitable. She had a great friend by her side in Tess... And Charlie.

The mystery element was interesting. It was enough to keep you on your toes... But not so much that it takes over the overall meaning of the book.

Even with the multiple dimensions of the book, everything comes together at the end. No loose strings.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC!

An Island Summer is the perfect beach read. Meaghan and Tessa put New York City in their review mirror as they head for the Outer Banks. They meet Toby and his grandfather Rupert. Rupert keeps calling Meghan by a different name and reveals a history that shocks everyone.
I loved the setting, I liked how kind Meghan was to Rupert. I loved the mystery, the old journal, the hint Of a fortune that could change everything.
Now, I need to get to NC, find an old diary, and maybe stumble across a fortune.

An Island Summer was a cute read. I liked the storyline, but wished the characters had more depth to them.

It's about Megan, who is starting over at her Pappy's house that he left to her after he passed. Her best friend joins her for moral support. Megan has dreams to be a chef, but gets shot down in New York and has trouble wanting to try again. By fluke she meets Toby and his dear grandfather. As the story unfolds it appears that Toby and Megan have more in common than they realize.

An island summer is a refreshing beach read that follows Meghan to Cape Hatteras where she embarks on self discovery. I loved her friendship with Tess and the relationship she developed with Rupert. While there was romance, I loved how self love and belief in yourself were the central themes of this book. Definitely worth the read!

Another winner by Jenny Hale!

This book takes place in the Outer Banks, NC. It is a wonderful twist on a dual timeline story, with the historical timeline being told in snippets of letters and journals from the past. I can't say too much because it would give the story away.

When Meghan inherits her Pappy's old beach cottage where she grew up after her parents' death, she never expected the changes it would bring into her life. With best friend Tess by her side, Meghan finds a new friend in Rupert, who mistakes her for a woman he once knew, long ago before time and dementia took his thoughts away. We also meet Toby, devoted grandson of Rupert, who also plays a major role in the book.

I absolutely enjoyed this book, it is a bit of summer no matter what the season you're reading in.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

If you like sweet romance, then you’ll love Jenny Hale and Island Summer! After reading several of her Christmas and beach-themed books, I know I’m going to like it before I even read the back cover. Island Summer has a gorgeous cover and set in the beautiful Outer Banks. This book will have you dreaming about what you would do if you inherited a little bungalow on the beach! I have a fondness for secondary characters and Tess doesn’t disappoint!

One line that made me laugh was “He’s a third-rate manager at a second-rate restaurant. He wouldn’t know good taste if it bit him where the sun doesn’t shine.”

Who wouldn’t like this book? People who don’t like happily ever afters, the beach, or muffins. Amazing glorious muffins.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions in this review are my own.

If you are looking for a beach read, this book definitely fits the bill. Meghan returns to her grandfather's home in Hatteras Island and with the help of her best friend, Tess, she finds some clues to her grandparents' past while finding her passion and path in life. There is a comforting predictability to this book but it isn't boring as there are some plot twists that are engaging and wanting you to find out how everything turns out.

An Island Summer is the perfect amount of friendship, mystery, and romance. I adored all of the characters and the bonds that they had with each other. The little twist of mystery was a great addition to what could have been just another romance story but ended up being a journey to find one's true self. I absolutely loved this book.

Another fabulous book by Jenny Hale. A wonderful back story runs throughout this book which means the characters have to delve deeper into their family history which was so lovely. Written so beautifully I could find myself sitting on Pappys porch with the sea breeze. A perfect summer read.

Jenny Hale is a go to author for me when I need an escape, and this book shows just why that is. Love, friendship, history, and of course, my favorite place, The Outer Banks! You know the format-big city girl returns to her roots and finds herself and a new love. But this offers so much more. The history of the Outer Banks, a long forgotten love that has actually never been forgotten, unraveling of a complicated past to put the pieces of the present into place. And while the beauty of the beach will warm you like sunshine, the sweet pup Charlie will warm your heart with his help in uncovering all there is to find in the old sea shack that Megan has inherited. Tess is an amazing best friend, and if this book doesn’t make you smile, I don’t know what will. I read it in one sitting as it was fascinating and yet easy to read. Can’t wait to read what Jenny has next :)

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.
