It was not for me, and I didn’t enjoy it, maybe it would be better for someone younger, that can relate more to the main character.

This book was not as I had anticipated, it was way too middle grade for me. Which makes sense because it is a middle grade book, but most of the time I don’t mind reading a middle grade book, but this was different.
I didn’t enjoy the world in general, it wasn’t magical which I had thought it would be when it’s about being a witch and magic. and the way the mother and the main character was so casual about just finding out there was magic and witches, which for me seems very rushed and not very likely.
I didn’t like how much girl drama there was, the whole mean girl thing wasn’t for me, it was too much and stole a bit of the plot.
I didn’t like the main character either, and the adults were pretty mean actually.

Hasani wants to be a youtube star! But everything maybe ruined when her father doesn't want to repair their family and she is given a chance to attend an exclusive summer program. Les Belles Demoiselles seems to be an amazing opportunity but if Hasani cannot control her gift she may destroy her life. The Wildseed Witch is a fast paced contemporary fantasy novel bursting with magic. While the plot is fast paced and entertaining, not much of the book happens in the school and leaves the reader with a thin understanding of it. If the book had slowed down and expanded on the school and classes it could have given more depth to the story and characters.

I did not finish this book. I have read some really wonderful magic-school books lately and this one was just so shallow and blatantly "girly" that I couldn't stomach it.

I get that its about a magic charm school and the main character is a beauty YouTuber so maybe my expectations were off. I just thought there would be more substance. Every magic ability was tied to flowers and beauty. I'm sure there's an audience for it. It just wasn't me.

I've never read anything by this author before or even heard of her. But now she's on my radar because this was a great middle grade fantasy novel. First off, I loved the flower affinity mixed in with the magic! And look at that gorgeous cover!! 😍 Such a great representation of what you'll find inside. Hasani is just like every other 13/14-year-old girl. She wants her parents to get back together, she has a makeup channel on Youtube, and she is a Wildseed aka someone who has magic when their mother doesn't. Because this magic is usually matrilineal and only pops up in females. At least that's what we've seen! Hasani makes friends, makes enemies, and learns what it is to be part of a magical community. This book is steeped in New Orleans roots and it was very fun to read! I did not care for how Hasani treated Sandy BUT I had to remember that she is just a young teenager and they are ruled by their immediate emotions. Can't wait to see what else is in store!

Surprisingly, I loved this book! I loved the kittens, the kitten charm magic, the growing of hair, the specialized flowers for every witch, and the message behind it. I loved it as a middle grade read!

The storyline and writing for this book is very age appropriate which is a very good thing. The writing was simple and easy to digest. Unfortunately, those were also the reasons I had to DNF this book, the story was just too simplistic for me. The narrator Channie Waites was fantastic though, I thought her tone was quite pleasant and so animated that it would definitely appeal to middle grade children.

I loved Channie Waites, the narrator. Channie did a great job of differentiating the voices making it easy to tell who was speaking. Latoya is a lot for Hasani to deal with and Channie did a great job of making her voice grating. Hasani's voice is smooth and relaxing, even when she is freaking out. I hope Channie Waites does the narration for book 2.

The book was great! Marti Dumas did a great job of encompassing all of the struggles that 12 and 13 year olds face on a daily basis - making friends, social anxiety, bullying, divorce, trying to fit in, and more, all while telling a story that makes you want to keep reading. I am truly looking forward to book #2 as Hasani possibly learns more about her magic and herself.

Thank you so much to net galley and the publisher for sending me a copy of this book! I absolutely love this book. The characters are so cute and funny. This magical school was completely believable to me and very atmospheric. I’m so excited to read more from this author. This book is a must read for adults and kids a like!

I liked the sound of a middle grade witch storyline with a POC main character but the story was actually much more than that. Themes like fitting in, making friends, pressures of social media, divorced parents and their new partners were all prevalent and weaved seamlessly into the plot alongside the magic. The narration on the audiobook was great too.

I love how on point Dumas was in her portrayal of a young Black girl coming into her identity through mistakes and difficult relational experiences.

When Hasani discovers she is a witch, a wildseed at that, and is offered a place at a prestigious finishing school for witches, she is not prepared for what this means. But through making real connections and overcoming mean girls, she will learn all about owning her magic and her mistakes.

Dumas has written a vibrant story that fits in with the social media landscape in young people's lives and how it can a profound impact on molding them and affecting their self-worth. Through examining ways of reaching out and sharing the spotlight as well as how the lure of popularity can at times blind us, the lesson lies in working together.

"Wildseed Witch" is a great middle grade story with a focus on self growth and support of friends! I loved that the magic was linked to flowers and could envision the gardens growing all around. Throughout the story Hasani is faced with a number of obstacles in which she must work through, sometime relying on herself and other times getting support from others. There are numerous messages woven into this magical story from internet privacy to coping with divorce. Marti Dumas is a new to me author but I will be checking out more books as I enjoyed the flow of the writing, the character development and the rich setting. Thank you to NetGalley and RB Media for an advanced copy of the audiobook! All thoughts and opinions are my own! The narrator was a perfect fit and the story came to life while listening to it!

Hasani wants to be a YouTuber, she loves make-up and is confident that creating content is what she wants to do. But more than anything, Hasani wants her parents to get back together. If it was up-to her, she'd parent trap her parents into staying together forever and yet all her hopes shatter when she finds out about her father's Instagram model girlfriend. Heartbroken and enraged, Hasani gets into an argument with her father and unknowingly sets off hidden magic from within. The very next day she and her mom gets an unexpected visitor, the Principal of Les Belles Demoiselles, a charm school for talented young witches. It's quite unusual to have powers and be a witch without coming from a line of witches but Hasani is unique and powerful, a 'wildseed' in a world of surety. Hasani is offered a full scholarship with every expense taken care off and she quickly agrees.

Hopeful and optimistic, Hasani embraces her powers and her new identity. But nothing comes easy; Hasani quickly realizes that in a world where everybody has been training since they were kids and everyone knew who they were supposed to be, she's the only one with no knowledge of magic. It'll be an uphill battle for her learning something she has no idea about.

This MG-YA fantasy has Harry Potter vibes, a school for witches and the friendships that are forged there. Wildseed Witch is an easy read and the since I listened to the audiobook, it felt a lot different. The narration was brilliant and I really enjoyed listening to the story.

Thanks NetGalley, for this audiobook!

This story was delightful and entertaining. I very much enjoyed listening to this audiobook. The audio was very well done and the narrator was amazing. She did great with all the voices, bringing all the characters to life and helping to breathe life into this world with Hasani, her Mom, Dad, and all her friends and others at the charm school of Les Belles Demoiselles.
It was a quick, fun, cute, and easy read. I enjoyed and got something out of it, but it would be a lot more enjoyable for a 12 yr old/Middle Grader. My 11-year-old loved it, especially with the part and talk of make-up and YouTube since Hasani has a YouTube channel with make-up tutorials and such. This is also about her figuring out who she is with her magic that she has to learn about and how to control and use it. There's also family drama with her parents being separated and working through the family dynamics and where she fits with that.
This is one that I was surprised by how lighthearted and great it was. I am looking forward to more with this series and hearing more about Hasani, her family, and friends with their adventures with the charm school and whatnot. Make sure to pick this one up and check it out. Thanks so much to NetGalley and RBMedia for letting me listen and review this wonderful book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was a cute listen but I feel like I never fully got into it. It felt pretty slow moving for me. I audio would have liked a wider range in voices for the characters.

Wildseed witch is about a 12 year old girl named Hasani who finds out she is a witch. She is selected to go to a summer program at Les Belles Demoiselles to learn how to be a witch.

First, let's talk about the narrator, Channie Waites. She sells it at a 12 year old girl. Her inflections, emotions, and attitude totally embody the character. She does amazing as the other characters but really let's you know Hasani and what she's feeling.

Second, let's talk about what I liked in the actual story. Hasani is an egocentric character. Which is appropriate developmentally for a 12 year old who has grown up in a supportive household. Most 12 year olds think they're the center of the universe. Their parents are becoming secondary influences behind teachers and friends. This book really exemplifies what that looks like. Something that drives me crazy is when adults expect more out of children than they do themselves. Hasani really has to battle with that throughout the book and learn to really find her own voice. Her parents are separated and instead of keeping her informed and being honest they just expect her to roll with whatever gets thrown her way. I'm an adult and I'm not great at keeping my calm when things come out of nowhere why would a 12 year old be?

There wasn't anything I really didn't like. The book covers outcasts, bullying, classism, and life changes with some magic thrown in. Some of the characters are catty and judgemental, the main character makes mistakes, her parents fall off their pedestal. I imagine this would be pretty accurate for what life would be like for a 12 year old girl that discovers she has magic.

If you get the opportunity to listen to the audiobook, it's worth it for the narrator.

Wildseed Witch was a cute easy read. I think it could been a little faster narration, but for younger ages it would probably be perfect. It is a simple story with a good message.

I really really enjoyed this book! I could not put this down. I adored the magic system in this so much! It had this gorgeous lyrical femininity to it that you just don't see a lot in books. I don't just mean its connection to flowers either but just in the way it flowed and grew especially within our main characters.
Speaking of the characters, I loved them! The characters were funny, and smart and just had so much to love about each of them. I couldn't even pick a favorite when asked.
This book is definitely perfect for anyone who is looking for a magical school book that is actually diverse and unique. This book has everything you could want in a magic book. Anyway who reads this book is going to love it!

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for giving me this copy.

First off: I am probably not the target audience, being a white girl in my 20's (but I still love middle grade).

This book has such a unique ideia of magic, and the way it grabs the social media effects from today is very intersting, and I think more books should do this, specially when they are targeted to children. Also think the way the parents divorce was treated was very good,

But I think this books moved a little bit too fast for me, and I got bored sometimes, specially because I wanted to see more magic and all our little witch wanted to do was Youtube. So yes, that kept the magic out of the book a little bit for me.

I still recommend this book for everyone looking for a middle-grade magical story, specially if you liked the Magisterium series by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare, I feel this two series may have a lot in common in their tropes.

This was definitly not for me. I'm certainly not the intended audience, but even then I sometimes have luck with middle grade stories. This time I unfortunately didn't.

So who is this for? I don't think it is worth it to read this book when you aren't in the middle grade age range, but I do think this is perfect for kids who are of that age. I think this is a super fun and relevant read if you have tweens in your life you would like to read this with, or if you are in charge of stocking the library in a primary/middle school. I also think the subject matter of this book would be suitable for children who are younger than our MC (younger than 12) if they are at a good reading comprehension level.

This story follows Hasani during her summer break when she finds out she's a witch. Not those broom flying withes from in the movies, but an actual real life witch. She gets accepted into a summer school where she has the opportunity to learn how to control her magic, but since she is the first witch of her family that she knows of, she feels completely lost and isolated when she arrives at a school full of young girls who've been watching their parents use magic their whole lives. You follow Hasani through all of these emotions, as well as the emotions caused by her parents divorce. You will see her grow, make friends, and learn important lessons in life about what she can and can't control, even though she's a witch.

I read this book as an audiobook, and I don't think I can recommend you read it that way. If you usually listen to your audiobooks on 1x speed then the audiobook is perfectly fine. The voice actor really tries their best to sound engaging and tries to convey emotions through their voice. I really felt like they accomplished that. But the audiobook version I listened to would degrade in quality when you sped it up. So if you're like me, and you like to read at 2x+ speed, the actor will actually sound like a robot, words get clipped and you will just miss pieces of sentences due to poor audio quality.

Since I'm not the target audience for this I don't feel it is fair for me to rate this book according to my enjoyment of it. It's not this books fault, so I'm not going to bring the rating down just because this book wasn't written for me.
