When Hollywood royalty Harper Kennedy walks in on her husband and the nanny getting intimate, it's the final straw for her marriage. Sick of his philandering, she escapes to Gamble, Alaska with her young children. The last thing she expects is to meet Digger McKenzie. Ruggedly handsome with a heart of gold, at first both deny their attraction and can't see any way forward with such diametrically opposite lifestyles. But love doesn't care about such inconsequential things as that.

I really loved this book. Right from the start, I fell in love with Harper's children, particularly Liam who has THE best one liners! I also loved the slow burn romance, with the building tension that resulted. I also appreciated the amount of vulnerability both main character's demonstrated throughout the story. There's also a brilliant cast of supporting characters, not least Grandpa Jack and Moira. I'm very excited to read the next story as I called that storyline early on.

This is everything I want in romance. Great humour (there are tons of laugh-out-loud moments), emotional depth, a badass female lead, and a swoon-worthy male lead.

Overall Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Bears and Celebrities and a Hot Guy! Oh My!
Hadley sure isn't in Kansas anymore ... she was in LA actually ... but now it's Alaska. The heroine in this book takes her kids to Alaska mid-separation from her cheating husband, meets a lovely guy and works on some stuff. In between there are some funny moments and some heartwarming ones.

Digger runs the lodge that Hadley escapes to and has some baggage as well, so now is not the time to fall in love for either of them but fate has other plans.

This is a light romantic comedy that would probably make a nice movie. The characters are interesting and the plot, while a little predictable, delivers.

Hollywood actress Harper decides her marriage is over when she finds her superstar husband in a compromising position with the nanny while the kids are playing outside. What's the point in staying together for the sake of the kids when he's that negligent? To escape the firestorm of gossip and paparazzi, she takes the kids to a tiny town in Alaska. There, she meets pilot Digger, who thinks she's a spoiled princess. But the more they get to know each other, the more they fall for each other. A meaningful relationship is impossible—she's in the middle of a public divorce, and thousands of miles from LA. So why does he make her feel like she's finally found home?

This story is sweet and adorable and so much fun. The kids are cute, and Digger is great with them. Harper is smart and just trying to be the best mom she can. She and Digger have great chemistry but always put the kids first. It's lovely to see Harper and Digger rewarded for making responsible choices.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Loved it. A light rom-com with serious subjects. Divorce, infidelity, how children are affected, along with bears, an outhouse and interesting characters. I am eager to read more in this new series as well as her previous books. Happy to have discovered her writing. Thanks for providing a copy via NetGalley.

Hollywood star, Harper flees to Alaska with her kids to escape the media when her husband is caught cheating. Again. But this time with the nanny. Gamble Alaska, provides solitude to Harper in the time of need, except for the hot pilot/lodge owner, Digger who keeps reminding her how she isn't a fit for the wilderness.

Melanie+Whitney's writing AND Alaskan Wilderness?? it's like a dream come true.

This was a refreshing & comfort read, starting from the very first to the last. There are so many snort laugh scenes that can't begin to even describe. The gossip girl alike columns were the highlight of the book with so many pop culture references like Bennifer 2.0 etc. 😆

The romance was sweet & swoony. I loved how Harper & Digger connected on a deeper level with themselves & the children. The getaway escape to the fishing cabin with 5 kids was hilarious & chaotic at the same time. I adored Lily & Liam, especially little Liam who resembled Manny from Modern Family (you can imagine).

Can't wait to get back to the Alaskan wilderness again for another amazing mom-com!

Did I read the synopsis because of the cover? Why yes, yes I did!

Harper & Brett Kennedy have the perfect marriage and family life, at least according to the media. But the truth is, Brett has regularly cheated on Harper for four years. When Harper walks in on him with the nanny, while the kids play right outside, she's done.

The tabloids find out and Harper knows she'll be trapped in the house with the kids for an indefinite amount of time. So she makes a snap decision to get herself & the kids out of the spotlight. She picks the last place the media would think to look: the middle of nowhere Alaska.

There, she finds peace & solitude, despite the fact the grumpy lodge owner, Digger, goes out of his way to make her feel unwelcome and out of place.

If I'm being honest, the insta-love trope & all that comes with it is one of my least favorite tropes. But this book handled it in a way that didn't make me completely hate it, though I still had moments where it was cringey.

Overall, I loved:
- big city girl + small town grump
- remote Alaska vibes + a baby bear cub encounter
- Harper's kids: Lily & Liam - their sass, Liam being a little old man
- the side characters in Digger's family: Grandpa Jack, his sister Moira, and his three nephews
- both Harper & Digger prioritized protecting Lily & Liam from the media fallout
- dual perspective

If you want a quick and easy read, with minimal steam and a few tough subjects talked about, I'd grab this one!

Giving this one 3 stars, only because I'm just not a fan of the insta-love trope.
