"Pirate’s Protector" plunges readers into a captivating world where immortal pirates and mermaids clash in a battle for control over a powerful artifact. Lisa Kessler weaves a tale of danger, intrigue, and sizzling romance, keeping readers on the edge of their seats until the very end. A thrilling addition to the Sentinels of Savannah series.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I was looking for a good read and I did not realize this was part of a series. Supposedly it could be read as an standalone, I really think you need to read the rest of the series to understand what was going on. I had a hard time understanding the interactions of the characters just because I had not read the others. It still ended up being a pretty good read.

Yikes, although this was a super quick read that I breezed through, I think this was my least favorite book out of the ones I've read in this series so far.
The romance was the best part. It developed super quickly, basically from insta-attraction to insta-love in a span of days, which is something I've grown used to in Lisa Kessler books. I still much prefer a slow burn, but it is what it is.

The lack of communication between the pirate crew and Agent Bale is what I have issues with. If they just communicated all of the leads and information they had, they could have solved this so much quicker, it was so frustrating. I basically knew who the culprit was from page 1 with all the information the reader gets.

I also expected this to end with a bang, but everything just kind of fizzled out, saving the action for the next book it seems. I don't know if I will be reading that one tbh.

I did enjoy this book, the main protagonist is a siren and she is trying to find a part of her that is missing, she is called to whomever holds her comb and will be forced to do their bidding. On the search for her comb, she meets and immortal pirate and they work together to try and find it. The story is good, engaging, if not in some parts predictable, but that didn't affect my enjoyment at all.

I would definitely read more in this series to find out more about where the sirens came from.

It’s always a gamble going into a book that is book 7 in a series, but it’s a gamble I always play because the mark of a good series is one where I can jump in anywhere and still understand what’s going on but also it will make me want to read the rest of the series. This book had me kind of intrigued but not enough to want to read the books that came before.

Our heroine is a mermaid and our hero an immortal former pirate- what a combo! Our heroine is on the search for her most prized possession and one that also has the ability to control her. Our hero meets her and decides he can’t do without her so if that means helping her find her possession then that’s what he will do.

Books like this are always so hard for me rate and review because it was just OK. I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it- it was just somewhere in the middle 🤷🏻‍♀️.

This one was fun and sweet. I liked it a lot more then the last one I. The series. Duke and Annika were great together and it was fantasy filled action with spies within Department 13, long lost siblings, and crew members long thought dead returning. It made for a fun filled plot and entertaining conflict. I enjoyed it from start to finish.

Duke and Annika are brought together as a result of a Mermaid's quest which must be completed. Another tale of the sentinels of Savannah which is a page turner until the end.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read. Opinions are entirely my own.

Trigger Warnings
This book contains:
• Murder
• Torture
• Mind control
• Theft
• Manipulation.
Characters
Duke is the loyal and protective First Mate of the Sea Dog crew. He’s steadfastly avoided romantic entanglements for the past 200 years, even with many of his crew mates falling in love, because he doesn’t want to watch them grow old and die.
Annika is a mermaid that’s been around on Earth for a couple thousand years, and yet has maintained minimal contact with humans until now. After some incidents that happened with her family, she’s pretty much alone on Earth and was quite happy like this until she met Duke and he somehow managed to sneak past her defences.
Storyline
Annika seeks out the Sea Dog after following it in from the Atlantic at the end of the previous book (Pirate’s Paradox) thanks to the Atlanteans giving her comb to them. When she can’t find it, she’s forced to confront someone on the crew in the hopes of finding it, which turns out to be Duke’s position.
After Annika shoots Duke in an attempt to get her comb back, he offers to help her in exchange for answering questions about mermaids. After accepting his offer of help, Annika and Duke work together to find an unlikely enemy, unexpected returns and the missing comb.
Overall Thoughts
Another highly enjoyable and exciting read where Lisa adds twists to old folklore and myths to create her own universe. My only fault with the details is about the chemical make up of Neptune.
If it’s a gaseous planet, made up of the same gas components as water but in a gas form. How do the mermaid swim? And how do they breathe underwater?
And another one that just bugged me coz I’m odd. How do they sleep underwater?
All probably irrelevant and don’t impact the story but my woozey brain as I read this while quite sick struggled to comprehend and make the connections, or just move on from these details.
In terms of the story itself, it was full of twists and turns with a major development that I didn’t see coming. Well, I did, but then Lisa added a comment that made me change tack and it turns out I was right initially. So, I got a small shock when that was revealed!
After learning more about Captain Flynn in this, I’m now quite excited for his book to come out so I can find out what happens on his romance/relationship front!

I’ve never read a book involving mermaids before. So I was really excited to dive into this story. I was a little nervous about jumping in on the seventh book of a series. However, I never felt lost or confused. The author did a really good job on catching the reader up, without it feeling like an information dump.

This story has a lot going on. Between Annika showing up, demanding her comb, to an old enemy popping up, and more twists and turns than I thought one book could hold. Let’s just say there was never really a dull moment. I never quite knew when the other shoe would fall and more chaos would ensue. It seemed like just about everything that could go wrong for this group of immortals, went wrong… and some.

I think my favorite thing about the story was, of course, Annika. I’ve just never read a story with a mermaid before and I was fascinated to see how the author developed her. Let’s just say, I was not disappointed. I loved the back story that Annika had of being the protector for her people. She’s a warrior and knows how to handle herself. So, needless to say, she was no meek bystander in this story.

Between the immortal pirates, mermaids, secret government sections, and just all the unknown out there in this story, I was an easy read to fall into. I enjoyed the authors take on mermaids and found all the supernatural unknown aspects very interesting.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I was so excited to get my hands on this book. There are pirates and mermaids need I say more? They are both immortal, but Annika is only immortal as long as she is in the water and she needs to find her comb. It gives the person control over her. They go on an adventure to find out who has it and he wants to help her find it. He did not think along the way that he would lose his heart along the way.

This is book 7 in the Sentinel's of Savannah series and while it could be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading these books in order. In events in previous books are discussed and somewhat lead into each new book. In this one we get Duke Proctor and Annika Mare's story. Duke has lived over 2 centuries and as a former pirate, he thinks he has experienced everything in this life. But when he finds himself held at gunpoint by a lush blonde, he knows he has never experienced the likes of her. Especially once he finds out that she is a mermaid. Someone has stolen her comb, and she believes that Duke is behind the theft. Annika thought she knew for a fact that the crew of the Sea Dog had her comb. If it falls into the wrong hands, she will be at the whims of whomever has it. But now she has to work with the crew in order to get it back. And spending time with the sexy pirate poses a different kind of threat. One that could change her life as she knows it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this installment in this series! Duke and Annika have this instant chemistry but they also seem to genuinely like each other. I loved how their relationship plays out. The fact that not only is he willing to help her find her comb but he is also willing to help her stay healthy and safe. Not really understanding what that means for her. He has a heart of gold. Annika holds so much guilt in her, for things that she truly didn't have any control over. But it just showed how much she is willing to do for people she cares about along with doing the things that she feels are right. I loved them both. My only drawback-this one technically doesn't end with a cliff-hanger however while their story is done, it kinda left things hanging open in other ways. And that made me feel like it was cliff hanger. It's the only drawback for me.

Book seven in Sentinels of Savannah, Pirate’s Protector is an action driven paranormal romance. The characters were engaging and the story entertaining and energetic.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

Pirate’s Protector is a quick and fun read and perfect for the beach.
The writing is steamy and easy to read. I love that it is a mermaid and pirate story. I really like the Department 13 aspect in it, but sometimes it is a little bit over the top.
I would have liked if the romance was more of the main plot but I like it nevertheless.
The relationship between Annika and Duke has a lack of depth, what bothers me a bit but it is really cute anyway.
Overall this is a really good paranormal romance book with really cool characters.
I highly recommend reading the other book in this series first and I definitely want to read Lisa Kessler entire backlist.

A mermaid, that was exciting enough, but we're back on the pirates ship, well a modern interior pirates ship. This is Dukes story.

You have everything you want in this PNR, action, passion and suspense.

Another great read

I was intrigued by this and liked it at first but there was just something about the secret government place and mystical objects that I couldn't gel with.

This doesn't mean it is a bad book, I just didn't like that certain aspect which made me withdraw from the book.

The seventh book in the Sentinels of Savannah series. Duke is a part of the Sea Dog crew and Annika is a mermaid looking for her lost comb. There is drama, danger, villains, and romance. I enjoyed reading their story. I received a copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Pirate’s Protector by Lisa Kessler is book 7 in the Sentinels of Savannah Series. This is the story of Annika and Duke. I have read the previous books which did add to my enjoyment of this book. Duke is part of the Sea Dog immortal prates but now he runs a security company. Annika is a mermaid who is looking for the stolen comb. This comb will control the mermaid. Annika confronts Duke with a gun because she thinks the Sea Dogs have it. This starts their exciting story.

Lisa Kessler is at it again with this interesting and well-developed world! I love how she takes paranormal ideas and feeds them into something very mortal seeming characters and storylines. This is book #7 of the Sentinels of Savannah and Kessler wanted to show us just how great she is at finding fresh ideas - we have a mermaid in this one! I've read so few books where one of the characters is a mermaid.

Annika is just that, charged with protecting the other mermaids, she's up for the job, she is extremely capable of taking care of herself and anyone under her protection. Which is why she now finds herself on land for an extended period of time. Several Mermaid combs have gone missing and it's up to her to find them - anyone who possesses a mermaid's comb essentially can make them do whatever they'd like.

She comes across Duke, one of our last single members of the Sea Dog crew and accuses him of stealing them, she even shoots him! Thankfully Duke is a mortal made immortal and recovers, vowing to help Annika in her search, not just because he's drawn to this woman who was so quick to maim him.

The steam is off the charts in this book and very quickly Annika and Duke head into the deep end, but how will they make this work? Duke might be immortal, but he can't live in the sea, and Annika is only immortal if she lives in the sea. What follows is the gang coming together as well as the head of Department 13(who reveals there is a traitor who has stolen the combs as well as several other powerful artifacts), to help flush out the thief, revealing a past enemy of the Sea Dog crew. One of many big reveals as well as false paths throughout this book.

I really enjoyed this book and Duke/Annika developing more to their relationship. I think I would have liked to see more in depth about Annika's world, it was a lot to take in without truly reading scenes in that space(but how would they?).

I'm always a fan of these novels even if they fall a little outside my normal level of paranormal - so I highly suggest them for any level of paranormal reader. While it would be helpful to read the other books in the series first(and you should just because they are super fun and interesting) you can read this as a standalone.

My opinion is my own and freely given.

Wow - immortal pirates and mermaids ahoy!
Another story in the Sentinels of Savannah series - what a joy!
A fantastic mix of legends and fantasy
Make this a story not to be missed for me.

Two immortals who are in danger
But who from? That answer is stranger.
Someone from the past they thought was dead
Now they're just wishing he was instead.

An enthralling adventure with a paranormal twist
Make this whole series one that's not to be missed
Filled with romance, secrets, danger and family, too
I have no hesitation in highly recommending it to you!

What a superb series this has proved to be
And this is a fab addition I couldn't wait to see.
It was well worth the wait, such a great read
Now there's just the finale that I now need!

The tension is mounting as this series goes on
Each story complete but leading in to the next one
For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review
