Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC. Although this review is for the audiobook, it applies equally to the novel.

Bury Me Deep by Jane Adams is a captivating audiobook that blends historical crime, mystery, and paranormal elements.

The talented Sarah Linton is the audiobook narrator, and she delivers a superb performance that brings the characters to life, conveying the emotions and the tension of the story with her voice, making the listener feel immersed in the action.

The story follows Detective Rozlyn Priest, who is called to investigate a murder at an ancient dig site. She discovers that the victim is Charlie Higgins, a petty criminal she once helped. He is killed with a spear that belongs to the Dark Ages, and Roz soon realizes that she is somehow connected to his death. She also starts having visions of a flame-haired Saxon warrior who shares her thirst for justice.

The book alternates between two timelines: the present day and the Dark Ages. The author skillfully weaves in historical details and facts about the Saxon culture and society, making the story more realistic and engaging. The book also explores themes such as identity, loyalty, revenge, and destiny.

Bury Me Deep is a thrilling and original audiobook that is a good choice for fans of Alex North, Ruth Ware, Mark Edwards and Stephen King.

If you are looking for an audiobook or a novel that combines crime fiction with history and paranormal elements, you should check out Bury Me Deep by Jane Adams.

I wish I could say I enjoyed this. It sounded like such an awesome premise but I feel like the follow-through fell flat and didn't give us what was promised. The writing was decent but the story was very chaotic to me.

The description compared this author to some of my favorites, so I was in. It sounded SO interesting and unique. And the cover art is so eye-catching!

The description screamed, “read me”! Two intertwined mysteries in different time periods. I usually enjoy dual timelines but these two were so far apart. And the “dark ages” didn’t grab me like I thought it would. This was an audiobook so it was easy to keep listening. But it wasn’t for me.

This book was a struggle for me.

The synopsis drew me in and helped this book catch my eye, but the way it was written threw me off. I definitely had a lot of interest at the start and powered through then it got slow and was unable to keep my interest mid way through.

Overall it was a decent read, not my ultimate favorite, but by the time it ended i kept wanting more.

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media and Jane Adams for the advanced listener copy. My review is done voluntarily, and my opinions are my own.

THREE VICTIMS. TWO MILLENNIA. ONE TIMELESS WEAPON.- this drew me in. I needed to know more. I wanted to like this book, but the dual timeline/dual POV between present day and dark ages just didn't do it for me. The beginning couple of chapters was interesting and kept my attention but I found myself losing interest. It was slow, but well written. It was also great world building; it just wasn't the book for me. I also found I was not fond of the narrator.

The pace of this book was a bit slow but overall I was engaged enough to continue reading. This historical mystery through me for a loop with its paranormal aspects and now and then format. While it wasn’t my favourite book it would be an interesting on to debate for book club

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 slow stars for this mixed bag of a book.

I love my mysteries, but sometimes I want something just a little out of the ordinary. 𝘽𝙪𝙧𝙮 𝙈𝙚 𝘿𝙚𝙚𝙥’𝙨 dual timeline - present day and wait for it…9th century England - feels a lot like that. I’m a fan of dual timelines, love seeing how they connect, and while it seemed like a stretch I was willing to go along with it.

Briefly…the body of a petty criminal is discovered at an archaeological dig site; the victim killed with an ancient relic. From there the story flips back and forth between two deaths (the other back in the 9th century) and how the characters in each timeline are uncovering the killer.

I liked Roslyn’s character. She’s thoughtful, methodical, and unafraid to piss people off as she does her job. I also liked the mystery of the 9th century killer and how they meted out justice back then. It’s the murder weapon that links the two deaths and timelines. It’s a bit of a feeble link, until the author subtly and without much fanfare exposes Roslyn’s unique ability to sense things about objects. People, this gave me the chills! Do you know how many times I’ve wondered how awesome it would be to touch a tree that’s at least a hundred years old and be able to see the history it’s witnessed? Anyway, after that detail I was more accepting of the plot.

I listened to the audiobook which was well done, but I think I’d’ve liked to have read the book as well to keep better track of details within the individual timelines. Nonetheless, this was a decent mystery with a strong protagonist and an interesting rotation of side characters. It’s my first time reading this author. I enjoyed it and would read book 2.

Many thanks to @NetGalley and @dreamscape_media for my review copy.

I’m usually a pretty fast reader but I’m also one who usually doesn’t give up on a book…. But this one took me quite a while to get through. At first it confused me because it bounces between two time periods with them being linked to the same thing. Once I finally figured out that was happening I was finding the story interesting. I think I personally was more drawn to the current timeline rather than the past but it was interesting how it bounced between the two. I think what got me was it didn’t feel like a smooth switch so you really had to keep up. The ending was good and I liked how it came to a head for both time lines.

I read this book's description and it sounded sooo good.
I thought that I was going to like this book a lot bc I really love the theme of ancient digs and such but for me it was just not something that I couldn't get into. For me it was possibly the duo (past to present or present to past) timeline that just didn't seem right to me. It didn't feel like they mixed well together or fit.
This book left me wanting more and it was just missing something also it was really hard to keep my attention.
so sad this book wasn't for me.
I will have to check out this author again bc maybe it was her writing Just this book, go know gotta give her another chance. :)

I do want to thank Net Galley and the publisher to allow me to grab an ARC of this book and review it for an honest voluntary review.

Bury Me Deep (Detective Rozlyn Priest #1)
Jane Adams

This is the first book in the Detective Rozlyn Priest series.
The detective forces herself to look in the very old grave. Where there should have been bones and artifacts there is a body pierced by an ancient spear. Charlie Higgins was a petty criminal that helped Detective Rozlyn Priest.
I found this book, boring. I struggled to listen to the end. I never connected with the characters; they seemed to have no depth. I enjoyed the history but they two “mysteries” intertwined just didn’t work for me. This is sort of a police procedural tale with a historical mystery thrown in. The main connection between the two times was the artifact.

First of all, I received a copy of the audio version of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Two murders + two millenia + one weapon sounds like an intriguing premise. However, I found the bouncing between the current time and the Middle Ages a bit distracting. I found the writing to be good, but I feelore editing was needed. The main character's background did not get fully described until nearly the end. I felt there were some plot holes that could have been filled in, while quite a bit of extraneous detail could have been skipped. Perhaps Middle Ages murders are not my cup of tea, but I found some of the story tedious to the point I considered not finishing. Another reviewer has suggested that this could have been made into two books and I feel thal is a valid point. On a 5 point scale, I am giving it a 3 as an ambitious effort that didn't quite work for me.

This was an interesting mix of crime/mystery/history/paranormal. It was a little slow at times, but overall well written and an enjoyable read!

"THREE VICTIMS. TWO MILLENNIA. ONE TIMELESS WEAPON."

Intriguing gotcha statement. This drew me in.

Detective Rozlyn Priest finds herself at the edge of an ancient grave. There should be old bones in the grave, so it is shocking when Charlie Higgins, a petty criminal is dead in the grave instead killed by an ancient spear. Then she starts having visions...

This book is told in duo timelines - the current day and the dark ages. The beginning was interesting, and I slowly began to lose interest in the book. I chalk this up to it just wasn't the book for me. Many are enjoying it, so please read their reviews as well.

Not a bad way to pass my commute, but I found the dual timelines confusing in an audio format. That's something that seems to work better in print where different fonts can be used to emphasize the difference. I think I would have enjoyed this more if it were a straight police procedural, but if you like a little supernatural in your mysteries, this is probably worth your time.

I have to say I kept getting lost in this one with all the flipping back and forth in the timeline. There is somewhat of a paranormal edge to this one too which was intriguing. Rozlyn Priest is called to an archeological dig where one of her informants is found stabbed in the heart by a spear from the middle ages. This is where the flipping starts. This spear was also used to kill someone at that time and Rozlyn starts to have visions of a man who is also out to find justice. Intriguing, yes. Will I continue with this series? You betcha!

This book just wasn’t for me, I felt it all
Over the place and I could not follow it after a few tries and the narrator voice just wasn’t for me either it made it harder for me to get what was going on. And usually when I listen to audio books I get really into the story having someone read to me but this time I just kept on getting more lost and confused. I’m sorry but it just wasn’t for me.

I love a good detective book and I know that I am indifferent to historical fiction. This book gives two worlds for someone that loves both of those things. Detective Rozlyn Priest is investigating the death of her informant, but it opens up a path to another time to help her get answers. Not only does it bring forth one mystery, but a second mystery unfolds.

My feelings on this are I enjoyed the read, but had issues at times with the connection of the two timelines. At times I was left wondering, hmmm how are they connected and whoa we just jumped somewhere else. I did finish the book and didn't give up, but I'm not sure if I would continue with the novels that happen after this one.

Thank you #NetGalley for the advanced copy and my unbias review

Although an intriguing story, I was unable to finish the audio version. It may be more about my listening habits (here and there, as I have time) than the recording or the author's talent, but I found it hard to follow and keep track of listening intermittently. From what I did listen to, the story has some mild Outlander vibes, combined with police procedural and mystery. I do plan to attempt this title in book form when I am able, or maybe attempt to listen again when I have the time to listen in larger blocks of time.

I did not finish this audiobook and stopped at the 41% mark. I did not like the dual timelines. I found the old Saxon timeline to be uninteresting and unnecessary in this book. If the focus had been only on Detective Rozlyn Priest and her case, I probably would have finished and enjoyed this book.
