Thank you to Wattpad Books and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Dirty Lying Faeries by Sabrina Blackburry is a NA (New Adult) contemporary fantasy that gives us a new spin on faeries. The story revolves around Thea, who meets Devin, a powerful fae at an art gala event one night. It turns out that Thea isn't human at all. She's a fae, too. Devin takes her back into his magical world, and she has to get used to believing in creatures that she thought were just figments of imagination. Can Thea learn to control her powers? Will her and Devin fall in love and live happily ever after?

Here is a sensual excerpt from Chapter 1, which is from Thea's point of view:

""Beautiful," said a gravelly voice just over my shoulder. The sound startled me; I whirled around to see a man in a finely tailored suit standing there. His dark hair was long and pulled back, his emerald eyes filled with amusement. Broad but not bulky, tall and poised enough to join the art on the walls, this creature was walking sin.
"What?" I replied, swallowing.
"The paintings. Don't you think so?"
Setting my plate on a tablet behind me, I hoped he hadn't seen me stuffing my face. "Yes.""

Overall, Dirty Lying Faeries is a NA (New Adult) contemporary fantasy that will appeal to fans of Wicked Lovely or A Court of Thorns and Roses. One highlight of this book is the great fantasy elements. It's clear that the author is very creative and added a lot of mythology about faeries that was really interesting. I did take off 1 star, because I felt that the book a bit too long and didn't have enough plot to sustain its length. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of fantasy books in general, I recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in September!

Thanks to NetGalley and Wattpad Books for the eARC im exchange for an honest review. I loved this book so much I had to go pre order a physical copy. Thea and Devin were amazing. This was a great story that I would love another book set in this world. I loved the story and the author did a great job keeping me entertained throughout the story. I think the pacing was done well and I await more stories by this author.

Dirty Lying Faeries is a find-your-place magical romance. Thea finds herself accidentally brought into the world she belongs in, and that includes power and special bonds along the way. This book wasn’t 100% original in the story line, I read a book very similar a few years ago but with a few differences. That didn’t take anything away from this book at all though! The writing flowed, I was so drawn to the love between Thea and Devin and I didn’t mind the fast pace that their relationship took- I’m not all that patient! I rate this 3 1/2 stars and I really hope there is more to the story because I want to watch this author grow in her writing and I want see where these characters go!

Rating: 4.5/5

When Thea Kanelos’s best friend drags her to an art gala (that’s definitely not her thing), she doesn’t expect a chance encounter with Devin Grayson to change her life forever. The handsome stranger isn’t just anyone—he’s a powerful fae, charged with bringing Thea into his world.

Believing that she’s always been human, Thea must accept that everything she’s known about herself up until now has been a lie. She’s not human at all. She is a fae—funny, because she doesn’t even believe in faeries.

I really enjoyed this book, for me it reminded me of a little of A Court of Thorns and Roses. Not only do you get faes, but you also get to learn about Changelings as well. I really enjoyed this book for these reasons: SEXY fae males, 4 courts that are run by the fae, but these courts are different they take after the 4 seasons., the mystery of having to find out who is causing the up rise with the Fae and the changelings.

I have a love/hate relationship with this being a standalone, I love that it was fast paced, and with so much going on you don’t want to put it down but at the same time I still have so many questions about these courts. I really hope to someday read about the other fea and see how their relationships go.

The plot was well done with a vibe from other books that I have read but still its own at the same time. The characters were great, I thought they had a perfect mixer of personalities that kept this book going and you wanting answers. I love that we have different POVs (Thea and Devin) even though I have read books with different POVs in it, and they made it difficult, in this book it was a breeze to read. I thought the spice was good, it would be great for someone who is wanting to dip their toes into the world of SPICE.

I want to thank NetGalley for allowing me the chance to read and review this book for my honest opinion, I also want to thank Wattpad books.

What an amazing take on Faeries. I was enthralled by the story. A number of twists and turns. I was guessing until the very end. I look forward to reading more of her stories in the future. Adding her to authors I follow.

I read an advance reader copy given to me for review. These words are my own.

As much as I wanted to love this book, and as promising as the beginning was, this was ultimately a disappointment.

The beginning of the book held promise. I was intrigued by the thought of changelings, which aren’t brought up in newer fairy books often. And the vibes reminded me of a hybrid Twilight meets ACOTAR. There were so many things thrown into the beginning that I was excited to see where they went.

And this is where the problems began for me. Much of what was introduced in the beginning of the book wasn’t executed well for me. While interesting concepts and ploys were written, they were either abandoned or easily solved.

For instance, the beginning of the book introduced a big mystery with two parts: one was why the main character was changed, and the second was did it need to happen? And despite sending the main character in the hunt for answers, the searching for answers was pointless because other characters told the main character what she needed to know. One character even says that the main character was taking too long so they would just tell her - why even bother having the main character try to solve the mystery at all only for the answer to be handed to her?

Other issues like this made it hard for me to want to continue the book. The introduction of “mates” really left a bad taste in my mouth. I know there are readers who eat this plot device up, but for me it could have added such a depth to the story to explore this. First the main character was changed against her will into a fairy and then she’s supposed to fall in love with a stranger!? Could have been very complex but instead the main character just accepts that this is her life and falls so easily into it. I hate it.

Speaking of, the main character is another Mary Sue who gets turned only to become so powerful and earns NOTHING. She is given everything in this story and it makes everything so dull and anticlimactic.

I also struggled with the writing. Towards the end of the book it looked as though the editing stopped or was skimmed over as there were so many structural and grammatical errors. The writing wasn’t my favorite throughout the book, but the ending seemed as though the author was just telling you thoughts from her head instead of painting a picture in the novel. It read very, “and then this happened, then this, and next came this.”

Overall the characters were very flat and one dimensional. Everybody gets paired up and that’s not the kind of story I enjoy. I’m sure there will be readers who love this kind of cutesy, happily ever after style book, but I was not one of them.

I really wanted to like this one. I was so ready to love this book after reading the plot and the title. Unfortunately, it fell flat for me.

This book reads rushed at times and the characters don't feel fully developed. There were moments where I wasn't really sure what was going on and the relationship between Thea and Devin lacked a bit more build up, in my opinion.

A glimpse into the faerie world? Yes. The MC discovering the faerie world with me? Yes and yes. Romance with action. Yes, Yes and yes.
I had high expectations from this book. Unfortunately, all I was met with was disappointment a quarter into the book. The plot had so much potential, but I almost cried because there were so many issues with it. It had so many plotholes and factual errors, I was so so sad.

I LOVE faerie and Fae books, love them. I didn’t love this book, maybe because I had such high hopes and it didn’t really live up to them? I was a little underwhelmed, the pacing was a little off in my opinion and I think the romance went a little too well. Make no mistake I hate the miscommunication trope but I also don’t like when everything just goes smoothly.

I was more interested in the two side characters' romance and relationship than I was with the two main characters. The author didn’t really make me care about their relationship and what happened to them.

I liked the bones of the story and where it was trying to go and the villain was good with a great motive. I did enjoy reading most of the book but it was just too many minus for me to give it more than 3 stars.

I do recommend this book to anyone that loves faerie and fae stories.

***4.25 Stars***

Overall,
A surprisingly fun quick read. Goodreads says this book is over 400 pages but I can tell you it did not feel like that at all. Thea, our heroine, discovers the existence of fairies and a wild adventure ensues. I wont give anything away but she does meet a guy, there are some evil fairies and mysterious characters. I honestly enjoyed this book, though there are a few knit picks I have with it. When I say quick read I mean very fast paced. Each event in the book takes maybe 1-2 chapters and then on to the next thing. Sometimes this is good, sometimes it makes the event feel very lacking. The speed makes it easily consumable but it lacks depth in some relationships not taking time to truly flesh out character motivations. Thea does have a lot of character growth through the book, but not all of it feels earned. Do I care about any of this? No, not really, I enjoyed the story.

Cover,
Ill be honest I 100% choose this book based on both its Cover and Title and it paid off.

Recommendation,
This is an adult fantasy with fairies and magic. It is very fast paced and if you are looking for a fun story I would recommend this to you. I wouldn’t call it an incredibly deep introspective book, but it is a interesting take on a topic that has been done numerous times by now.

I’m torn on this one -
I was super into the idea of adult changelings, figuring out what happened in fae history with their own children and the courts at this gate (and wondering about the other gates and courts). Not to mention - o really wished I could look at the art the characters were taking about, it sounded great
*but*
There was something about the pacing and the relationship part of the story that I just didn’t get into as much as I’d expected.

That said, it was still an interesting read, and I’ll very likely read the next in the series when it comes. ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
Thank you to Wattpad books for the ARC

Slight spoilers!
This book was amazing!!!! I could not put it down and have zero regrets about the sleep I missed to finish it quickly.

Our female main character goes to an art gallery with her friend and meets the very attractive gallery owner who gives her a private tour. After their encounter she start seeing faeries around the city and receiving cryptic notes from "C." Her world is turned upside down as she enters the faerie world and becomes bonded to a Lord.

If you like romance, intrigue, and faeries, you'll love this book! The author did a great job creating a world of faeries inside our modern day world.

Anyone who likes fantasy romance novels, please give this one a read! You won't regret it.

Sabrina Blackburry has done it again! I loved this take on Faeries, especially it being in a contemporary setting. It was pretty fast paced, which I loved because it constantly keeps you on the edge of your seat. Plenty of action, some romance and a few little twists made this a very fun read! The title is very fitting, which is what drew me to the book initially and how I found Blackburry's other work on Wattpad (which I read before this one and omg were they good!). Can't wait to see what her next books will bring!

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I couldn’t resist the cover for this - it has such a nice color palette, plus the wings and fancy greenhouse glass background were just pretty! It’s also a cheesy modern faerie romance, so that was kind of irresistible too. I’m pleasantly surprised because it was actually quite good!
Thea Kanelos is living her normal human life until her best friend invites her to an art gala where she meets the handsome gallery owner Devin Grayson. He’s actually one of the faerie rulers and it’s his charge to begin the magical transformation of promising humans into fae. Thea is thoroughly enchanted by Devin and can’t get him out of her head, but she’s also experiencing some really strange shit - she’s seeing people with wings and things that aren’t really there, plus her best friend has gone missing. She fortunately doesn’t go too long without getting a proper explanation from her new people and is surprisingly okay with this life changing species shift! To be fair, she now has fae beauty, magic, and a hot powerful new dude and her best friend also made the change. Unfortunately this is tempered by the fact that someone is threatening Thea and there are secrets she must uncover.
Dirty Lying Fairies is like a fun throwback to the early days of the YA paranormal romance craze (post-Twilight) but the author is aware of some of the really standard tropes and skips or subverts them. So, typically the MC who has been introduced to this new world has a total meltdown and gets angry at this unwanted change, but Thea and her friend actually embrace it. There’s a really nice chapter where Thea takes Devin to meet her family for Christmas. Little do they know, this is one of the last times they’ll get to see Thea because proximity to her new magic can harm them if they’re exposed too much. It was bittersweet and really showed why the fae only choose people who have no one else close to them. It’s too much to lose otherwise. Devin is pretty standard as far as hot faerie love interests go, but he fortunately avoids the “alpha-hole” trope so common nowadays. He’s a pretty nice dude who has to play politics with the other fae courts, protect his people, and especially Thea (his new mate). Yes, it does have the fated mate thing going on, but I find that I usually like that!
Overall, if you’re looking for a fun fantasy romance with a little dash of mystery thrown in this is quite entertaining. I liked the characters and didn’t want to smack them for being insufferable, uncommunicative idiots. That’s honestly the worst part about so many fantasy romance books - if people would just communicate, there wouldn’t be any issues and therefore no cheap drama! It has some spice, but not an excessive amount (there’s actually a plot!). It looks like this author has some other stories on Wattpad, though I’m not sure how interconnected they are with Dirty Lying Faeries. I would love to see a direct continuation of this story because there’s so much more to explore!

I received a copy thought NetGalley for review. 3.5 rounded up.

So I actually enjoyed this, it reminded me a lot along similar lines to Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely.
If you like reading about Fae/faeries and their court drama, this is one for you.

Thea is a human with strong affinity for magic, its just hidden by her human-ness. If not for the introduction to fae food and magic she would have remained human, but she accidentally gets mistaken for her friend at a party and finds herself becoming fae, as a changeling.
Instead of taking children, they take adults who they believe will fit in and adapt will with different courts. They're carefully researched and chosen. And allow them the choice on which court to choose.

The courts are full of drama, revenge and power struggles. There's a storm brewing between the courts and wild fae, and Thea finds herself in the middle of it. Not knowing who to trust, she uses her judgement, new powers and instinct to get to the bottom of it all.
You'll find, love, a bit of adventure, and a grand battle.

I found Dirty Lying Faeries to be an interesting read. The pacing was good, the plot had some twists and turns, and the characters were well developed. The book is told through the POVs of Thea and Devin (the two main characters and love interests). I look forward to continuing the story in the next book.

Three and a half
Well written, I liked the main character and would love to explore this world. I love stories about the fae and this one felt modern, contemporary and a great start from this authors imagination.
This voluntary take is honest and I believe fair

A fun and enjoyable read! I loved the setting and the twists and turns along the way kept the story moving at a fast pace. It had a different feel for a fae romance and I enjoyed the urban fantasy aspect. The variety of characters kept me engaged and I'm looking forward to continuing the series!

I absolutely loved this book! The plot was amazing and the book was so entertaining. There was constant action with Thea and Devin, so I never felt bored while reading. The world building was done very well, and really painted a great picture for you. There were so many great side characters like Heather, Caroline, and Alan who added some fun to the story as well. Even though it shows that it’s a series, the ending did not end on a cliffhanger (thankfully)! I’m excited to see where Sabrina Blackburry will take the next book, and what will happens next for Thea and Devin.

Thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad Books for this ARC!
