Sam Capra takes on another mind boggling mission in Traitor's Dance. Before it is over, his son Daniel has been put at risk by an American traitor who fled to Russia but now wants to return. There's a large cast of good guys and bad guys, some of whom are women. It becomes a tad difficult to keep tract of the characters as there so many and a few even go by different names in the novel.
But it is a very interesting novel, a thriller and a soap opera as family ties are revealed. It's my first Sam Capra novel, and I will be looking to read more.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.

The Sam Capra novels have grown stronger as the series has progressed. Traitor’s Dance is one of the best entries. While Traitor’s Dance can be read as a stand-alone novel, series fans will benefit from the context that earlier novels provide. This one takes place several years after the story that developed in the first five books.

Marcus Bolt is an American traitor, a spy who defected to Russia. The CIA gets word that Bolt has eluded his Russian minders. They think he might try to reenter the US, despite his knowledge that the American intelligence community would be happy to shoot him on sight. Bolt has an estranged wife and daughter in Miami. The CIA thinks Bolt might want to contact them, although they both blame Bolt for his son’s suicide, a death his son deemed preferable to living as the son of a traitor.

Sam works as a “fixer” for an ultra-secret branch of the CIA. He is tasked with keeping an eye on Bolt’s daughter Amanda and with capturing or killing Bolt if he tries to contact her.

Sam relates to Amanda. Having been married to a woman who betrayed the interests of the US by advancing the cause of a criminal organization with terrorist ties, Sam understands what it means to have a traitor in the family. He has been keeping his wife’s true nature a secret from his son Daniel, but Daniel is beginning to realize that stories he has been told about his mother don’t add up. When he is contacted by a woman who claims to be his aunt, he willingly listens to her stories about his mother. The woman, of course, has ulterior motives, as Daniel discovers when he is kidnapped.

Abbott creates atmosphere with Miami’s population of Russians in Sunny Isles Beach, also known as Little Moscow. Russian oligarchs with luxury condos and their need for money laundering services play a key role in the story.

Jeff Abbott assembles a large cast to tell this story. While it is built on the framework of Bolt's potential return to the US and the reaction of various governments and criminals to Bolt's actions, much of the tension surrounds Sam’s attempt to Daniel from pain.

Family relationships are central to the plot. One of the characters is convinced that Bolt was framed and that Bolt can prove the innocence of his father, who embezzled money from the CIA. A British spy believes her husband was killed by one of the characters. Questions arise about the true identities of the fathers of two key characters. Family relationships tie into the theme of betrayal, a theme that binds many of the characters. Betrayal of a spouse or child is similar in many ways to betrayal of a government, a point that characters make repeatedly.

The plot is tight despite its many moving parts. The story moves quickly despite its attention to detail. The novel closes a chapter in Sam’s life but it appears to open a couple of others. New novels will be welcomed by readers who waited six years to find out what is happening in Sam’s life.

Special thanks to Grand central Publishing. and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

This book was action-packed, a page turner and not everyone who is who you think they are. I was disappointed its a series, but at least thank goodness it can be read as a stadalone.

Action packed, now I have to go back and read the previous books because I liked this one so much!

In book six of the Sam Capra series, Sam is approached by a fellow spy and is given a mission: Marcus Bolt, who was once a spy for the U.S. in Russia and then turned traitor, is now missing. He had been hiding out in Moscow, and it is believed he is headed to Miami to see his daughter, Amanda. As Sam heads down there, using the cover of having to check on one of the bars he owns that is having problems, the Russians are also converging on Miami, eager to get to Bolt and return him to Russia. It is a race to see who can find Bolt first, and bring him in. Meanwhile, Sam's teenage son Daniel starts receiving cryptic messages about Daniel's long-dead mother, hinting that Sam has been keeping secrets from Daniel.
This book was SO good. It was non-stop action from start to finish. I did not want to put it down. I will say, it took me until about a third of the way through before I was able to keep all of the names and backstories straight. There were so many characters and most of them had multiple names that they went by, given name, various aliases, etc. I will admit that this is the first book that I have read in this series, so if I had read the previous books, some of those characters may have been in those books as well, so I would have already been familiar with them. That said, I was still able to catch on, it just took me a little bit. I definitely want to go back and read the previous books now, though. I love how the different chapters were told in the viewpoints of the different characters. I always enjoy that, because it gives the story a well-rounded feel to it, and I think it makes it feel more immersive. I love that the ending left it on a cliffhanger, so that I am already anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. If you enjoy a good spy thriller, or just a good thriller in general, then I highly recommend you check this one out!

Sam Capra is back and better than ever. The owner of an international string of bars is really an agent for “Section K”, an excellent cover for his need to travel. This book deals with a traitor than Sam is to apprehend by keeping the traitor’s daughter under a watchful eye. With lots of action, alliances, and betrayals the story unfolds with family relationships in in the background providing humanity to the main characters.

In Traitor's Dance, Jeff Abbott brings back Sam Capra, though it's been ten years since the events of the last book.

"Sam works for a secret espionag agency called Section K. He is living in Austin, TX with his 13-year-old son, Daniel and just trying to be the best suburban dad. Sam is approached by a fellow spy with news that a former agent, Markus Bolt, is missing from Russia, where he defected after betraying the US. It looks like he's headed back to the US to see his family. Sam's job is to catch Bolt and bring him in - without letting anyone else know what's going on. Just a simple pickup..."

This is going to be one of my favorite books this year. It's fun when an author makes up their own agency. (Section K) It gives them the ability to do whatever they want. Sam is up against the Russians who want Bolt back as well as rival intelligence agents. Plus Bolt knows how to stay hidden.
There's a lot of action in these pages and some surprising twists. Everyone is not who you think they are. Aboot does a nice job of not veering into Russian bad-guy stereotypes.

This is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. But now I need to go back and read the others. Abbott has a great fast-paced writing style. This is an excellent action-thriller.

Author Jeff Abbott has given us a new Sam Capra novel, and moved the action forward in time so that his son Daniel is now a 13 year old middle schooler, and Sam is —mostly — living the life of a suburban dad.

Sam’s real employer, a secret government group called Section K, alerts him that the traitor Markus Bolt has disappeared from Moscow, and may be trying to make contact with his abandoned family in the US. Sam is tasked with watching Bolt’s daughter in case he contacts her. The American government wants Bolt arrested, but Sam knows that many others want him dead.

This is an intricately plotted novel of spies and traitors, but also a deeply moving examination of family and the secrets we hold to keep them safe. Highly recommended. #Traitor’sDance #NetGalley #SaltMarshAuthors

Sam Capra appears to be an all american Dad, but he has a secret life, he work for a secret espionage agency He is tasked with tracking a man who betrayed his country which resulted in lost lives after he defects to Russia. Sam’s mission threatens to reveal secrets he has been keeping to protect his son. You have to pay attention in this book, there are lots of characters to keep track of and there is a lot going on. The story is action packed with suspense, murder, mystery and betrayal. The book is part of a series and I might have benefited from reading the previous books to better understand the history of the characters but it could be read as a stand alone. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Thank you NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for the copy of Traitor’s Dance. When I first started this book I was captivated by the writing. Sam and Daniel were shaping up to be great characters and the story was off with a bang! I think if I had known this was box six in a series and I had read the previous books the number of characters would have been less daunting. As the book went on, I kept getting confused about who was who because there were so many different relationships between the characters, many of which went back for years. It makes me want to read the previous books to understand all of the backstories, but it did make for some confusing moments in reading. I liked the parts focusing on Daniel and his quest for information about his mother best. I liked his relationships because they felt plausible. I would have liked the action scenes better if I had been clearer about the other characters. If you like action packed books you will love this one. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
