As a bug fan of NYC and walking, this was the perfect book for me. There are so many fascinating and endearing stories and people in these pages. I felt like I was right there in NYC as I read it--even though I was a couple hundred miles away. I learned so much about the city as well and it gave me great ideas for areas to visit on my walks next time I am there.

I loved this beautiful book about all the places and neighborhoods of New York City. The city looked so peaceful and quiet during Covid. I loved the way the author too, you all around and explained in great detail .This book brought New York to your living room.

The concept of this book is amazing, however it struck me as a bit self-absorbed from the get-go. What I really wanted to read about was the city. What I got from the start was the author and not even especially related to the city. Nora Ephron is someone who did this excellently so my standards are maybe too high

This book comes out on November 29, 2022. Penguin Group Press provided an early galley for review.

I love New York City. I always have. Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to go there. I saw it in movies, on TV shows, in comic books. It seemed mythical and magical to me. When I was 21 years old, I had the opportunity to visit the city three times in the course of six months; it was a dream come true.

Reading The Intimate City brought everything back from those three brief visits. The sights, the smells, the energy, the anticipation, the wonder of it. It was a rush to experience those sensations again. Thank you, Michael Kimmelman and his various walking cohorts, for renewing that in me again. I also got exposed to a number of areas of the city I've not been before, and that just makes me want to plan another trip back there someday.
