This book did not work out for me. It's not only unrealistic, exaggerated, over the top, but also, long repetitive not so interesting and pretty predictable.

The entire situation is just so farfetched. A girl that feels threatened by her very controlling boyfriend who goes to extreme measures to get rid of him or, better said, remove herself from the picture. But then things get very complicated and all her elaborated plans are somehow turned upside down as everyone involved had a hidden agenda.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for allowing me to read this book!

Noelle is engaged to Dr Daniel Ashcroft. He's everything a woman wants in a man - smart, protective, handsome, controlling. Okay maybe not controlling, but Daniel believes he is quite the catch and so does Noelle initially.

But his controlling ways, are really making it difficult for Noelle to keep that loving feeling. There are secret (not so secret) cameras in their apartment and then there was his last girlfriend who went missing.

Noelle wants out. Daniel is not willing to let her go. So, Noelle comes up with a plan....

I listened to the audiobook and thought the two narrators did a tremendous job. I especially loved hearing Daniel's part mainly because of how he thought about himself and others! He was quite the arrogant over the top character!

This book was fun and dramatic. Such a great way to spend the day. This book reminded me of an over-the-top-I-can't-stop-watching nighttime soap/movie. Very fun and very dramatic!

Oh my ... this was quite an experience! Do people like this really exist? I thought, for most of the book, that Daniel was as bad as it got, truly, truly awful. Little did I know.

It took me a while to warm to the narrator (Noelle), as she seemed to be in a constant rush to get somewhere, but I got over it towards the end. Great suspense, great story. Highly recommended.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my ARC. Three and a half rounded up to 4 stars.

I enjoyed this book, but the NetGalley shelf makes it challenging to listen to at times. The audio stops after a chapter and I lose my place, and then I have to restart my phone.
The book itself had a pretty good twist at the end, even though it was a little unrealistic.

I really had no idea where this was heading. Riveting thriller augmented by delightfully tense narration. I kind of fell in love with a sociopath, which is always the sign of a good domestic thriller. Easy five

I was surprised this is a debut novel! So many twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat and threw things at me that I didn't see coming.

Daniel seems to be the perfect boyfriend. He is handsome, has charm, and is a doctor! He and Noelle, a nurse, start dating and at first he seems perfect! The she starts to see red flags. He's very controlling - he has cameras in her home, knows her passwords to everything, follows her work schedule. She learns a former girlfriend went missing and was never found. She knows he won't let her leave. So she comes up with a plan to have herself kidnapped. But will it work? Will it go smoothly? Can she get away and start over?

This is when things really heat up! The cat and mouse game they play will have you enthralled! Will definitely look forward to more from this author!

Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for my advanced audio copy of this one in exchange for my honest review!

Make Me Disappear had a twist that I never saw coming! I enjoyed the layers of the characters. Narrators were fantastic.

Sometimes you read or listen to a book that grips you from the very first page. This was one of those books. The writing was great with many of the subtle abuse tactics hitting home. For example, how Daniel is careful not to actually use the words of the threats so to an outsider what he says to Noelle seems totally reasonable.
The book was a real rollercoaster, with your loyalties being pulled this way and that all the way through. Admittedly I guessed the twist quite early on, but that didn't bother me as I enjoy feeling like I know something that's supposed to be a secret.
Good ending too.
I would totally recommend this book.

Name of AudioBook: Make Me Disappear
Author: Jessica Payne -Debut Author
Narrators; John Wichard and Amelia Sciandra
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Publisher: Bookouture Audio
Pub Date: May 16, 2022
My Rating: 4 Stars!

When Noelle Thomas, a nurse at Seattle General meets Dr. Daniel Ashcroft, an Anthologist also at Seattle General, she is sure she met the perfect guy.

Story is told from the POV of both Noelle and Daniel; in two time period of then and now.

Both Noelle and Daniel are swept off their feet and soon become a couple.
It takes a little while for the ‘real’ Dr. Ashcroft to show his controlling and narcissistic side.
By the time they have been together for a year, Noelle is very fearful that Daniel is a danger not only to her but to anyone Noelle is close. She learns about an extreme entertainment company entitled “Kidnapping for Hire” usually does kidnapping for party entertainment etc.
Noelle is sure this is safest way to break off this relationship, she will be able to get away from him and he will no longer be a threat.
I had a really hard time with all of these unlikeable foul mouth characters!

Narrator John Wichard did a great job performing nasty foul mouth unlikeable Dr. Ashcroft to a tee; same with Amelia Sciandra’s performance of whiny Noelle.
I wanted to understand why Daniel was so full of hate. He had so much going for him: good looking, successful career, and wealthy; but I was ready to skip all his chapters.
I have a low tolerance for excessive profanity and these unlikeable characters certainly had me at my peak.
I was ready to give up and decided to read the some reviews. One reader described it as suspenseful and very entertaining. Hmmm. I have read/reviewed 3065 books on Goodreads and 99% were fiction ~ so yes I read for entertainment.
Most of this story was not entertaining but I hung in there and the twist did come through. Story ended up with me saying: “Okay, I now understand the good reviews.”

Personal Note: I actually read an eGallley as well as listened to the audiobook. I am a big audiobook fan but this is a case I like the read better. As I mentioned the profanity was excessive to me: reading it wasn’t pleasant but much easier than hearing!
I would like to read Ms. Payne’s next novel ~ only hope there isn’t as much profanity!!!.

Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this audio eGalley. This file has been made available to me before publication in an early form for an honest professional review.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for May 16, 2022.

This dark and twisty psychological thriller is definitely a page turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I couldn’t stop listening!!

Noelle Thomas is a nurse and her boyfriend,
Daniel Ashcroft is an anaesthetist working at the
same hospital. Handsome, wealthy, suave and romantic he
swept her off her feet. Perfect boyfriend
material, yes? Not quite! He is also very
controlling! When she realizes
that he may have murdered a member of her
family and has his sights on another, she
decides to escape by arranging her own kidnapping. The
kidnapping goes slightly awry and the rest of
the book is a cat and mouse game of her trying
to disappear while Daniel doing everything in
his power to find her!

Thank you Bookouture and NetGallery for an advanced audible copy of this book.

Enjoyment: 4
Total rating: 3.86

Make Me Disappear is a fast-paced, edge of your seat thriller. I suggest checking content warnings and being ready to go with the narrative flow before picking it up. There are some plot conveniences, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment at all. I suspended my belief and enjoyed the ride.

Josh Wichard and Amelia Sciandra knocked it out of the park! I almost feel sorry for Josh - he played the arrogant, unlikeable Daniel superbly. Amelia also excelled at bringing Noelle to life. I really enjoyed this production.

My only criticism is that I felt the end didn't quite play fair and that it was a little - incoherent with the rest of the narrative.

What are you to do when your boyfriend is so much of a control freak that he installs camera in your apartment, spyware on your phone, keystroke monitor on your computer, threatens your career, threatens your pregnant cousin, and you are convinced he killed your aunt when she was in the hospital for surgery? You hire a company to kidnap you. Although, you are kidnapped for real first and it turns out it is by the twin brother of one of your boyfriend's missing victims. This was a twisty story with so many twists and turns I hated to put it down. Definitely a keeper!

From the outside, Noelle seems to have it all - a job she loves, her family close by and her charming, attentive boyfriend. Except that Daniel is too attentive, trying to control her life and even planting cameras in her apartment. When she tries to free herself from his grip, he threatens to hurt the people she loves. How can she escape? When she finds out you can pay to be fake kidnapped, it seems like the perfect solution, so when she is bundled out of her apartment but men in balaclavas she is happy to have a taste of freedom. But can she ever be free from Daniel?

Psychological thrillers are my go to genre, so it’s rare for me to come across a book with a plot that is unique and surprising but Make Me Disappear totally delivered it.
It’s a intriguing idea, written really well. I loved the dual narrative and found it made a really well rounded experience for the reader. Both narrators in the audiobook give a brilliant performance, especially the one who narrated Daniel - they captured the arrogance and blinkered entitlement of the character perfectly. The plot has lots of twists and revelations that kept me guessing all along. I found Daniel to be a bit too much of a mama’s boy to be as chilling as he could be. The ending was really well balanced and satisfying.

I would definitely read this author again, as well listen to those narrators again. Thank you to Jessica Payne, Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to review an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Good thriller, woman trying to escape controlling partner but what lifts this is the narrative of the said partner from the protagonist. The narrator is good and carries the story along and the use of a male narrator really lifts this audiobook well worth a listen.

A big thank you to Bookouture Audio and Netygalley for the arc of this audio book to read and review.

Make me Disappear is the debut book by Jessica Payne and a great psychological thriller. Noelle, a nurse at a hospital in Seattle, who initially thought she had met the perfect man in the rich, handsome Dr Daniel Ashcroft, an Anaesthetist, who does seem to thing he is God's gift to the world! Initially he seemed great, but there is a lot more to him, than meets the eye.

Noelle realises that all is not as it seems as she hears rumours about how a previous girlfriend disappears and then realises how possessive he is getting and finds out she is being watched. How can she get out of this controlling relationship? She finally decides to try and arrange her own kidnapping.

The story is told from their points of view of both Noelle and Daniel in turn. The narrators were very good Amelia Sciandra and Josh Wishard, who really did do justice to Noelle and Daniel, the incredibly arrogant character, and his voice really came off that way.

Saying that, I didn't like the character of Daniel and almost felt at times that the book would do without his self loving appreciation of himself, which seemed way over the top at times, and didn't like the way he looked down on everyone around him. It didn't detract too much as I was very keen to find out about Noelle and what would happen next. It's a bit farfetched but a an enjoyable read, would just prefer to tone down Daniel, just a little!!

A great and enjoyable page turner nonetheless.

I enjoyed this audio book and as a debut I thought it was great.

As long as you're prepared to go with the flow and not question the likelihood of any of the events being realistic. I was happy just to be entertained and enjoyed it immensely. It was a tad too long would be my only criticism.

The story is told from two perspectives, Noelle and her boyfriend Daniel who she is trying to escape from. He's written brilliantly as the controlling partner who we believe from the outset is the villain of the piece..

I did guess the twist and wonder if the nudges towards it were a little obvious but it was well written and the narrator did an excellent job.

Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this book. I will look for the authors next book.

Noelle is a nurse in Seattle who starts dating Daniel, a doctor at her hospital. Told from both of their point of views, Noelle is trying to leave the controlling relationship and takes the unusual step of planning her own kidnapping to get away.

Amelia Sciandra and Josh Wichard did a good job narrating.
