Undine Spragg is a singular character. She's always scheming, always yearning for something just beyond her reach. Her lack of scruples and any semblance of control over her spending cause her to drift in and out of marriages. All in all, she'd be a splendid dinner companion or an escort for dress shopping.

Love these beautiful rereleases—the covers are stunning! We have a few in our bookstore, and I’m looking forward to adding this one into the mix. This one was not a quick read for me, but I’m so glad I took time for it. Undine—what a character! I don’t think I’ll ever forget her. I think Wharton’s “The Age of Innocence” may still have my heart as my favorite of hers, but I loved this too for wholly different reasons.

The Custom of the Country is a fantastic addition to the re-releases of classics in a new form. This Penguin Vitae edition includes a foreword by Sofia Coppola. The story is still remarkable. Be sure to check out The Custom of Country today!

What a fantastic book. I am so glad that Penguin Classics is re-releasing this book. The forward by Sofia Coppola makes it even better. I cannot wait to own a physical copy of this.
