Fun, magical, and diverse. New sibling books are always being asked for at my library and will definitely recommend!

A perfectly reasonable series opener for primary school age ranges. There's not a heck of a lot of magic in the plot, but the book doesn't waste time discussing how Maggie got her magic and who else in the family has it – it just jumps right in with her brand new baby brother being delivered to the family home, whereupon Maggie realises that the rules have changed. Now she will NOT get any attention until she burps excessively, farts a lot, makes an utter mess and tries to be more cute. Not all of that she manages to do, but she does find herself literally disappearing from sight when she vanishes from everyone's focus.

It's all delivered in very succinct fashion, with strong visual craft in the many, many black and white illustrations. Sometimes there are barely two sentences to the page, but either way they all turn very quickly with this lively story. Oh, and it's a mixed-race family, for those to whom such things are important. It's not perfect – the introduction of her friend to little effect will surely have more bearing on further books, unless he really is destined to be the prince of ungainly cameos – but it hits the right comedic beats and still manages to have some truth amongst the fantastical events. A strong four stars.

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book will be enjoyed by all kids who's a fan of Isadora Moon or Heidi Hecklebeck.

Maggie is an spontaneous , spunky and fun little Witch who had all sort of adventures in this book. At first, she turned invisible after being unseen to her parents who got their hands full with her new born brother. Then she managed to turn herself into a bunny after she wanted to be the cutest creature. Life with Maggie isn't boring at all, and my daughter is already looking forward to the next book- Maggie Sparks and the Swimming Pool Sharks.

This was a cute early chapter book about a family of witches. Maggie is unhappy that her parents are having another baby. At one point, she is so jealous about all the attention he is getting, she literally makes herself invisible! I liked that the focus was on sibling jealousy, because that's something that a lot of kids go through. I also liked how the magic personified the big feelings Maggie had about this new family member.

On the other hand, some of the scenes seemed rather abrupt. There is one introducing Maggie's best friend, but we only see him for a page or so. I also felt that her acceptance of her little brother was a little abrupt as well. That said, I think this will become a lively and interesting series!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC.

Thank you, Sweet Cherry Publishing, for the advance review copy.

I love the illustrations. It's the highlight of the book for me. I also love how interactive the writing and the characters are. With a dash of magic!

The story starts with the welcoming of a newborn in the family. However, the first child gets a bit insecure and tries to get attention from the adults which I feel happens in almost every family with siblings. I would say it's a realistic presentation.

However, as it is a children's beginner chapter book, I find how the progresses to be a lot more negative than it needs to be. It would have been a much more enjoyable read if there was something important that happens with the help of the adults that would make the older child bond with the younger one. The ending was somehow a bit abrupt to make them bond instantly.

Overall, a fun interactive read.

Oh mayn, this book was hilarious! This book tells the story of Maggie who doesn't want a baby brother but suddenly ends up with one. A mishap of enormous proportions occurs leading her to perform a spell of dire consequences. The book deals with jealousy , guilt and family. I absolutely adored this cute book and believe that everyone should read it.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher all opinions expressed are entirely my own
