A Galaxy Next Door is the first manga in a series of shojos written by Gido Amagakure. It follows the story of Ichiro Kuga, a young mangaka who, after his father dies and leaves him with his siblings, needs to ensure their future by working hard and saving money. But life isn't easy when you need to meet deadlines and take care of young children, especially when you don't have an assistant. That's when Shiori Goshiki enters the frame. She is a 19-year-old teenage girl who turns out very talented for the job. Ichiro directly accepts her, but what are the risks? When he unexpectedly discovers that she is a princess from another kingdom and that he is betrothed to her, things start to take an interesting turn.

A deception for me this time. I didn't expect much of this shojo, to be completely honest, so I wasn't surprised. Another shojo that makes you think 'Mangakas cannot surprise you anymore', and then they invent something completely farfetched. That's the case with this manga. Not only does it reunite all sorts of clichés with forced proximity and forced marriage, but it has also quite a few things that left me gasping in disapproval. There are a few sexual references here and there that left me very uncomfortable, especially when thinking that this shojo is normally directed toward young teenage girls. I just thought it was weird. I had a hard time finishing this one. Although the drawings were super cute, there were too many texts and the plot didn't live up to my expectations (or tried to surprise me in any positive way).

I think that if you start reading shojos with a manga like this one, it would be fine. However, for those who read a lot of them before, I believe that this manga won't get off the beaten tracks. For all those reasons, I wouldn't recommend it to everybody.

This was a really solid first volume! The dynamic between the siblings and the princess is cute and I apricate how some typical rom-com tropes are avoided or reworked entirely. Misunderstandings are actually talked about, and while the romantic aspect is there, it's not a huge focus in this volume. It's a nice and charming read so far!

I loved this manga. The art, the dialogue, and the premise of the series is so cute and the good thing (so far) is that it doesn't deride anyone/anything. The family dynamics and interactions are fun.

Great start to series!

This is a solid start to a cute shojo series. I always love seeing how manga is made in made it makes me appreciate the hard work that goes into one of my favourite reading formats.

The story follows Ichiro and Shiori. Ichiro is a manga artist working hard to meet deadlines to support his younger siblings after their parents pass away. During a busy time, we meet Shiori a manga assistant who is hired to work with him to meet a deadline, in sleep-deprived confusion, Ichiro discovered that Shiori is something more than he first thought.

The family dynamic is super cute I love how they support and look out for each other. I see good chemistry between the main characters. A great start to this series.

I found this to be a surprisingly enjoyable read. Although a bit slow in the beginning, the story was mysterious and fun. Additionally, the story's premise is refreshing in that the characters are more interesting than those in similar mangas. I liked the story in general. I would definitely read the next volume.

I loved reading this manga, I did find the beginning of the manage a little slow but after this the story picked up pace and the mystery surrounding the princess and her home it was a cute but great read. The art in this book is amazing and I will definitely be carrying on with this series!

This was a fantastic manga it had a little bit of a slow start but after you get into the manga it is flawless with great art style and pacing of events. Although sometimes I'm a little sceptical about some of the fantasy elements in these types of manga I felt a little surprised I wasn't very harsh there was only a little which added to making these two realise their feeling for each other. I would love to read more of this manga in the future as I think I am now addicted to this series and I want to see even more progression between these two. I felt this manga in my heart as it made my day happier reading this book, and I swooned a lot. I've not read from this magna artist before but I will defiantly look into his past work and get to read more if they are as good as this.

This was an entertaining manga for sure! I especially enjoyed the art and the concept of an accidental engagement!

Wow! This was an incredible read, the art style, characters, and mystery surrounding the princess and her home-world all make for a great story. I feel like this volume was more of an introductory one, which is great, it gives us time to get to knows the characters more. I look forward to seeing how the relationship with these two progresses and what they may face going forward.

It's not really a surprise that Gido Amagakure would write a story with distinct <i>Mary Poppins</i> overtones. Goshiki may not come to take care of protagonist Ichiro's younger siblings, but she's definitely there to save the day, and the imagery of her showing up with a big, black umbrella is hard to mistake. She's also a woman who has descended to the earthly plane from somewhere a little...unusual, let's say, which also throws in some interesting <i>The Little Prince</i> elements. Toss in a rom-com started by a stinger (she seems to have been parasitized by a being from the stars) and this is odd in the best way, a charming story that's more than the recommended spoonful of sugar.

I really want to like this. It's a quirky rom-com with a fantasy element featuring the Star Princess. I mean, that sounds great. A young woman who grew up on an island to be queen and who ran away because she loved manga? Yes. Yes, please. But I can't say this volume kept me engaged. Nothing stood out, and the characters are still pretty two-dimensional. Sometimes that happens with volume 1 of a manga, so I think giving volume 2 a chance is worth it. My expectations, however, have even tempered.

I saved this one for last because I thought it was going to be my favorite. The cover is just beautiful. And while the premise is nice, and the characters are nice...everything is just..nice. I think a common problem I find with female leads that are from "another world" or a "different species" or whatever, their air of naivety often supercedes their personality. I hope that she will grow in time, and I will definitely check out the next volume, but I am not obsessed yet.

They keep sneaking other worldly beings into these romances and I keep being so intrigued by them. The setup for this is very interesting and I do really enjoy both of the romantic leads. The art is very nice, and I am going to read the next volume. Solid start!

Initially I was drawn in by the beautiful art on the cover of this manga. The girl is extremely pretty and the graphic/font for the title is so cool! The summary sounded like something fun and interesting and it absolutely was.

A beautiful star princess getting caught up with a struggling but determined manga artist raising his two younger siblings. It's definitely a very unique story and the art is very nice. I could see a lot of interesting plots coming in to play alongside the main path of this one.

In this delightful shoujo, a princess of the stars comes down to be a manga assistant for an artist struggling to take care of his family. He finds her beautiful and scarily talented, but one thing he didn't expect to find her as was his fiance! Suddenly engaged by accidentally starting an alien ritual, they have to juggle their work, their growing feelings, and figure out how to undo the engagement... or if they even want to.

I'll admit, this manga had me kicking my feet a little sometimes. The art was gorgeous all around, but it was also just so cute! I loved the uncommon dynamic and all of the characters were so heartwarming. I think the pacing was a little fast with regards to their romance, but it'll be interesting to see where they go from here given the end of volume 1, and I'll definitely be continuing!

A Galaxy Next Door is a fun romantic comedy which a similar premise we've seen in the manga world of boy meets alien girl. However, the writing and characters are well done with some gorgeous artwork. A great setup but the love story does feel rushed but looking forward to volume 2.

What an adorable and strange premise for a shojo manga. I really enjoyed Goshiki and her realization of love--very cute. I look forward to the continuation.
