ARC From Netgalley.
The battle finally comes to an end, but all is not well for UA and our heroes. In fact, heroes in general have never fallen further in the public eye.
Highlights (spoilers):
- At the end of the battle, many villains are arrested, but a huge portion of them escape, creating 1) The spirit of All For One takes over Shigaraki's body and boosts his power immensely. and 2) The villains who made it out are destroying prisons and releasing even more villains out into the world.
- We get a very long detailed version of the origin of Hawks, including showing his family and manifestation of his powers. (Cute kid!)
- A massive part of this Volume surrounds all the Todoroku family drama, specifically Toya's decline and being ignored by Endeavor. Breeding with his wife, trying to produce a Half Hot - Half Cold Quirk, they instead get Toya, who is a hotter fire than his father, but the skin reactions of his mother, hence why Dabi is all burnt up. When Shoto is born, he gets the Half n Half Quirk, and still Endeavor is a jerk. The guilt and pain are finally getting to him and he breaks down.
- Hawks and Best Jeanist are told about One For All so they can help plan to keep a watch and get to work with the Todoroki family, at least while they are united together. After Dabi is taken down, they will abandon Endeavor again.
- The whole battle has left many heroes dead and the public's support of them shattered. Needing to answer for Dabi's broadcast accusations, Endeavor, along with Hawks (answering for his double agent maneuver) and Best Jeanist (answering for his faked death) appear before the people and tell their stories. Support for heroes falls to an all time low.
- We are shown letters and a our hero on top of a building, having gone supposedly full vigilante. Deku has left school...

Looking forward to getting my hands on V 32 soon.
Recommend.

The battle is over and the heroes are left to clean up the damage. The damage is severe - the public is losing its faith in the heroes. Especially after the Dabi - Endeavor confrontation. Who can you trust when the No. 1 Hero was hiding a secret like that? The injured heroes are treated (Denki's got a scar!!! You can bet he's gonna woo the ladies with that), Class 1-A assists with clean up and slowly return to UA. Deku has a conversation with the previous wielders of One for All - learning a shocking secret about All Might. Endeavor, Hawks, and Best Jeanist do damage control press.

A smooth transition into the next arc.... can't wait to see where Horikoshi takes us next.

Honest review in exchange for ARC!
I have just starting recently reading the MHA manga (I usually watch the anime) since I’ve been buying it for my school library. And it’s been GREAT! I feel all powerful knowing that I’m further than the anime even though the content of MHA has definitely taken a darker turn. And for that I say, FINALLY! I felt that it was too light hearted for such a serious plot so even though the author apologizes to 5 yo boys for getting dark, this 25 yo girl is PLEASED.

Again, I just started getting into the manga and I do find it easier to know what the heck is happening when I watch the anime but one of my favorite things about any manga is seeing the authors goofy little side notes. They make the whole issue and Kohei Horikoshi definitely takes the cake with it (I love it!)

But seriously, this is an amazing story. I am so pleased to be reading it (finally) and although I’m sad that the upcoming arc will be probably the end, it was an amazing journey and I can’t wait to see what comes next!

I really cannot wait to add this to our My Hero section at the library. The kids will go wild for this new volume, and I’m excited for the next one myself. I’m glad we get more insight into Shoto’s life and glimpses of what he could be in the future. Overall, very excited.

We're moving back into the world of Superheroes with Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia. In the newest volume of My Hero Academia, the battle has ended, and in the aftermath, the Heroes are reeling. Many heroes have died after the Battle of Jaku City, and society is on the verge of collapse.

Although Midoriya and the others have driven off Tomura, the villainous All-For-One is just getting started. After the battle with Dabi, and the startling revelation that Toya Todoroki is very much alive and has become a villain, now, the Todoroki family must come to face the darkest time in their life.

Midoriya soon begins to realize what One-For-All is and that reaching his fullest potential might also mean that it will test his convictions. Will he step up to face this new challenge?

Readers who have followed the story, whether it was on the Shonen Jump App, from Viz Media, or Shueisha’s Manga Plus are familiar with how heavy the price has been paid to stop Tomura from carrying out even more chaos, and destruction with his new found power. When being in a war, either in real life or fiction, there are countless casualties, lives lost, and or injured. That was the case at the beginning of this volume. Despite all of the effort made by the heroes, Tomura and the remaining members of the League of Villains, managed to escape thanks to the Near High-Ends.

Out of the volumes in My Hero Academia that I have read, this by far was one of the most emotionally invested stories so far. Especially when it came to learning about Hawks’ backstory, Keigo (his pro-hero name is Hawks), and his family living in Extreme Poverty. Because of the situation, his mother completely shut down mentally, and his father started to drink heavily and became abusive. Keigo’s father would later get arrested, and caught by the Pro-Hero, Endeavor. Keigo would eventually catch the attention of the Hero Public Safety Commission where he saved a group of people from a car wreck. Even though this meant that Hawks and his family would go their separate ways, and erase any connection between them. It was a backstory that was tragic but cemented the idea that out of all of the heroes in this story, he was the most realistic. I know most fans will not agree with me on this idea, but it’s just an opinion.

What was different about this volume was how visibly dark the tone has gotten. For example, Tomura and the Namus have broken into Tartarus to break out All-For-One, and the villains who were locked away began to escape their confinement. Society was already beginning to lose even more faith in its heroes, due to the fact of Dabi’s startling revelation, and the broadcast of Endeavor’s toxic past. To make matters worse, villains run amok in the streets. The situation is causing most of the heroes and pro-heroes to begin to either resign or retire.

But on a lighter note, there is a great sequence involving Deku, and the wielders of One-For-All, with him putting everything on the line, and his convictions being put to the test. One of the hardest choices he had to make was to leave UA behind. In order to keep his friends, and family safe.

This is the volume of My Hero Academia that kicks off the darker phase of the story (as if the war arc wasn't dark enough), which pretty much removes it from the "Academia" key word in the title. However, we do get some excellent backstory about the Todoroki family and Midoriya's inherited powers.

Another great addition to this series. Beautiful illustrations that MHA fans are accustomed to and the storyline for this one! Omg! So many tears! Bakugo is changing before our eyes and there are some heartbreaking scenes and deaths too MHA fans will love this continuation of the manga.
