Sophie Cousens is on my "don't care what the plot is, I'm buying this book" list. This one was funny, dreamy, and gave me butterflies. We've all experienced a "what-if" moment and I loved the journey these characters took.

BEFORE I DO grabbed me from the first page! A disastrous wedding day sets the scene and I was hooked...but then, in the middle, it got soooo slow.

The writing and story was good enough that I kept going, but this book needed trimming. There were also far too many characters.

Having said, BEFORE I DO managed to perfectly execute a love triangle (a trope I absolutely loathe) and the ending was perfect.

What would you do if 'the one that got away' turned up the night before your wedding?

This is one of those questions that can throw you off. Audrey has had an easy life...she changes jobs like she changes shoes. She never really looked for a long term relationship, probably because of how many times her mother has divorced and married...gives her a skewed way of looking at things. The first several times she meets Josh she is not impressed enough to remember his name...keeps calling him Jeremy. Then something changes and he suddenly peaks her interest but he's in a relationship. The next time they meet up as guests at a wedding he's single again and they are free to let the sparks fly.

This book starts out with Audrey walking out of the church on the wedding day with the title "one minute after I didn't"...it goes back and forth in time so the entire relationship builds up to the wedding and how the one she thought got away ended up there with someone else. There are bad omens at rehearsal and on the morning before so with everything going on she is questioning ALL of it.

The author is good at weaving a romance in a way that can make you think about bigger topics and this one is kind of about whether or not fate and soulmates are a thing and how you can convince yourself of one thing only to find out it's all in your head.

I enjoyed this one but it will come in 3rd place in books I've read by this author.

I enjoyed Sophie Cousens book before and this one I think I liked even better.

There was a lot of drama and miscommunication and it definitely kept me guessing for awhile at how it was going to end.

The romantic gesture at the end had me laughing out loud.

Overall, I liked this one. 3 stars.

I recently finished Before I Do and I gave it 2-2.5 stars.

I did not like any of the characters. I found it hard to root for Audry. I typically like books with multiple timelines. But with the timeline here I felt like some chapters were not necessary to the plot of the story. It was very choppy and just felt unnecessary and excessive. It could have been a shorter story with a less rushed ending. I felt like Audrey was immature and blamed her problems on others. In my opinion, she shouldn't have ended up with either cause it sounded like she needed to spend some time alone to figure things out. The premise was cute, but not when you get into the nitty-gritty of the relationships.

I received an advanced copy of Before I Do by @sophie_cousens and loved it!

This book follows Audrey who is about to get married when her “one that got away” mystery man walks in with her soon to be sister in law. The book proceeds to show Audrey’s past and you start to wonder which man she will end up with.

I loved the ending and was honestly a little surprised by it! Coming out October 11, 2022.

I love Sophie Counsens and this book did not disappoint. It was fun and light without being predictable or cliche. Audrey, the protagonist, was a bit annoying especially towards the end and I wish her character development would have been stronger and more positive. Overall through a good read!

I'm going to start off by saying I am NOT a fan of love triangles. I didn't realize (which is obvious if you read the synopsis) that this was one, but with that being said I felt it was done with care and attention. I felt the entire book was spent humanizing the characters and honestly I liked that. I like how you didn't know who you rooted for because they all honestly had their flaws. It felt very human and real. I will defiantly recommend this book to someone who wants and elevated read, not something that is fluffy and light.

4.5 stars!

Head-in-the-stars Audrey is about to marry down-to-earth Josh. Though they are polar opposites, they have a healthy stable relationship. Josh is just what Audrey needs. As the big day approaches, Audrey’s finds herself wondering if Josh really is "The One."
So, when Josh’s sister shows up to the rehearsal dinner with Fred, Audrey’s "What If? guy"—the man she met six years ago and had one amazing day with—Audrey finds herself confused and torn, second guessing herself at every turn wondering if the universe is telling her she is not meant to marry Josh.

This story alternates between past and present with the back history of Audrey and her soon to be husband Josh, and the back history or Audrey and Fred her ‘what if’ man that now has surfaced just before her big day. Audrey loves Josh, but after several weird occurrences leading up to the wedding day (including a dead bat falling on her guests in the church rehearsal and several other buzzard situations) Audrey begins to second guess her decision to marry Josh.

Once I hit the 25% mark I honestly could not put this down. I was hanging on the edge of my seat with anticipation as the wedding day got closer and closer. Would Audrey go through with marrying Josh? Let’s just say, It did not disappoint! There were several unpredictable twists and turns that kept my highly entertained and a story line that was fast paced and kept getting better and better each chapter. This was so much more than just about a wedding. The secondary characters added so much to the story as well. I especially adored Granny Parker 😂 This was such a good story of ‘what if‘s’ with a very satisfying HEA. I’m so glad I requested this one from Netgalley…it was a definite winner!

At first I didn’t know what to think when learning about Fred and Josh. But ultimately I fell in love with Josh.

Ok first of all if you’re getting married you shouldn’t be second guessing it when you’re about to get married! Ahhhh! But this book was sooo good I couldn’t stop reading it and finished it really fast! I recommend it to you for a good read!

I became engaged from the Prologue. What on earth happened to this poor woman? Strange but likable characters and a quirky story line make this an entertaining read.

The story is a love triangle of sorts, told in multiple timelines. I usually find that very confusing, but here it works. Aubrey has floundered through life, much of it due to her unusual upbringing by her actress mother and her nactors ( actors who supplemented their income by working as a nanny). This brought me in mind of "Auntie Mama". Her mother is a serial bride, married 5 times and engaged 6, so Audrey doesn't believe that marriage works, and has floundered through life, not sticking with anything because of guilt that she might have inadvertently been responsible for her mother's many divorces. She has a joyful day with Fred, but due to unforeseen events, they lose each other. Her relationship with Josh on the other hand is very slow, years slow, but eventually they decide to wed. The wedding weekend is full of bad omens, from a dead bat in the church to the bride falling off the cake, to Fred showing up as Josh's sister's plus one. But there still is a HEA in the end.

No, no, no! Do not second guess yourself, Audrey! I wanted to throw this book so many times throughout reading the lead-up to her wedding! Ugh! Don't look back, you're not going that way!

Audrey is only days away from marrying the love of her life, Josh. The guy that she overlooked for far too long ended up being exactly who she needed. But as the walk down the aisle comes closer, she's starting to question if fate is trying to intervene.

Six years ago, Audrey had a silly encounter with a man named Fred. It all centered around a strip of photos from a random photo booth outside of a tube station. They briefly met and then never heard from one another again due to certain circumstances in both of their lives. Audrey always thought that there could have been more with Fred.

Now Fred is attending the wedding as the date of her future sister-in-law! Now she's very confused and must make a very important decision, marry Josh or see what could happen with Fred? Ohhhh, this could turn out terrible!!!

I absolutely loved this book. It hooked me and kept me turning pages until I was done. Finished it in two days! The character development was strong, and the premise was unique enough that it didn't feel like anything else I've read.

This was a cute read! I felt the pacing was slightly off and it just threw the whole book off for me. Still was an enjoyable read though.

Sophie Cousen’s always does a great job writing nonlinear timelines and building up angst within a romance. I loved Audrey as a main character, the wedding setting and how the drama made sense with the story. Cousen’s also did a great job balancing the over the top/ silly moments with the more serious topics.

Deeper than your typical Rom-Com. Sophie has a beautiful writing style that brings characters to life. They feel real. You won’t always like them, but you will feel driven to understand their choices and follow their journey. I struggled a bit with the female MC and her indecisiveness. Although I loved how it all came together in the end. This is a story about the love that you think got away, the what-ifs, and what true love really means. I applaud authors efforts showing a human and realistic approach to a love story.

Audrey is the quintessential nervous bride on her wedding weekend. Anxious about walking down the aisle to Josh amid a myriad of bad omens, mishaps, and a wedding she had very little voice in planning, she's completely shaken when Fred, her "What if?" guy, shows up at her rehearsal dinner. What if they'd had more than one day together? Is he who she should be with instead of Josh?

The multiple timelines of this book were sometimes hard to keep up with, but I loved getting glimpses into Audrey then and now and her relationships. Throughout the book, I kept wondering who she would choose, and I really appreciated her choices/reasoning in the end. If you like every character's storyline tied up in a tidy bow, you'll find that with this book! Overall, I enjoyed Audrey's journey to choose the right love for her!

This novel told the story of Audrey & Josh, who are slated to get married, say "I Do", and seal the deal. Things become complicated when her soon-to-be sister-in-law shows up with an old flame as her plus one to the event - Fred. Audrey isn't sure if marrying Josh is the right thing to do anymore. She feels as though Fred might be her soulmate.

Overall, I rated this novel 4/5 stars!

I keep coming back to Sophie Cousens books, but I'm not sure if they are for me.

I generally liked the story, but wasn't super engrossed in it.
