Sky, I just loved the reason behind her name, has returned to Middledip after a fall out with her foster brother. She successfully bids on an house at an auction outbidding Daz. Sky has no family after she was estranged from her mother so wants to move into the house and has a checklist to make friends.

The community spirit is well and truly alive as they rally around to support each other whilst also preparing for the Christmas Street competition. I liked the eco lifestyle that Sky lived a few small changes can make a difference. One of my favourite characters was young Wilf. There is a scene where he says I' will if you will' and it just melted my heart. I loved the 'will they wont they' romance and the spanners in the works.

I just loved this book and a return to Middledip. It was lovely to spot a familiar face in this book. Set during the days leading up to Christmas this is the perfect uplifting, heartwarming read that is perfect to snuggle up with a hot chocolate and a blanket.

You can’t get more festive than this latest offering from Moorcroft, with lashings of snow, Christmas lights and love. It’s the perfect feel-good fiction to get you in the mood for the big day!

What I enjoyed most about this book was how varied and interesting all of the characters were. Reading a lot of books, after a time the characters can become quite similar with their backgrounds and personalities. Yet, Moorcroft has done something different with her story set in the beautiful village of Middledip, and this just made it all the more enjoyable.

Sky and Freddy are colleagues with a shared background. However, things turn a little sour between the two, with Sky finding herself returning to Middledip and the proud owner of The Corner House – a large, rambling yet neglected building that is needing some well-overdue TLC. Wanting to get immersed into the community, Sky agrees to take part in the Christmas light competition and, alongside trying to make the indoors liveable, Sky has the mammoth task of taming the wild garden and getting it ready for Christmas. I loved how independent and determined Sky is, making me feel she was the perfect match for The Corner House. I also really appreciated the environmental messages that Sky was keen to promote, thinking this is such a crucial element to real life today.

Not only is Sky’s background interesting, Moorcroft also explores how family relationships can become strained and are not always the most secure they should be. Her friend, Daz, also has some troubles at home and I was interested in how so many characters were connected with him. Loveable Wilf, absent Lewis and grumpy Graham… there was plenty of variety as I grew immersed in Middledip’s community.

Of course, it would be wrong to ignore the festive element of this story. As you would expect, it is in bucketful’s and I delighted in it every step of the way. (Is it wrong to want to put my Christmas tree up now?!) Plus, there were large quantities of biscuits and hot chocolate consumed, leaving me wanting to reach for the snack cupboard with a grumbling tummy – perfect! In my opinion, this is a great book to build on Christmas spirit, not only because of the snow, but the decorations, love and community closeness.

This was a lovely Christmas read and another winner from Moorcroft. It was a detailed narrative with interesting characters that made the story more enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed picturing the beautiful snowy scenes of Middledip and this was what helped make this a great piece of festive fiction.

A gorgeous setting in a beautiful community, it was fabulous to meet Sky and watch her reunite with a special place from her childhood.
Some emotional moments and as always dealt with very sympathetically. It was interesting to see how the characters overcame their difficult pasts, and how it made them view their future and relationships they make.
Lovely and festive, it was great spending time in Winter Street and meeting the inhabitants.
A proper Christmas treat!

Daz has his own stuff going on. His best friend has gone to prison, leaving behind his wife and young son. Daz plays a big part in both their lives, which is possibly misconstrued by some.
Daz also has a tricky ex girlfriend to manage. Can he finally move on from her? Or can she win Daz back?

Will Sky’s move bring her the love and security that she desperately craves?
And will everyone have the Christmas they deserve in Middledip?

This seasonal romp from Sue Moorcroft provides all the festive feels, but the story is so much more than just a Christmas tale.
As is so often the case with Sue’s books, there is some really gritty content to the story, which is always written in perfect harmony with the lighter side of the tale.

A White Christmas On Winter St, is a charming and engaging read. The setting of Middledip is idyllic and oozes warmth and community spirit.
There is a great cast of characters. They are well written and all have their own quirks and qualities that bring this story to life.

So, if you like a Christmas read with a strong storyline but still full of everything festive and fun, put on your Christmas pj’s and settle in for a cosy feel good festive read.

You can't go wrong with a Sue Moorcroft's book, especially if it's set in Middledip and it's Christmas!
I always love the care and sensitivity with which the authour handles the difficult themes in her books, and I love her books in particular for this. Because they're not just the usual romance, there's so much more to them. The themes treated, the roundness of the characters and the warm, beautiful writing style make them very special and precious.
Sky, Freddy, Wilf and Nan Heather have a very special place in my heart, and though my guess about Sky's future use of Corner House was wrong, I loved her choice immensely.

Now as an adult, she works with her former foster brother acquiring homes and flipping them. This was a feel good Christmas read that is east to read and enjoy with a cup of tea and snuggled under a cozy blanket for the afternoon.

Easy, light reading that’s just the way to get me into that Christmas mood. Lots of happy ending storylines follow along with the requisite misunderstandings before we finally read of Sky getting her happy ending. Sky Terran has left her job and her best friend Freddy after he chose his fiancé over her. She returns to Middledip where she and Freddy were fostered as children by Nan Heather and Corner House, the property she bought for herself instead of Freddie’s company. There she plans to do up the house and live there for a while, returning to the place that made her feel safe and wanted. She meets Daz, who lost out on buying Corner House to develop as an adventure centre accommodation. Sparks fly but then Daz’s ex returns, with misunderstandings aplenty what will happen?

Middledip is one of those places I have imagined in my head as an amalgamation of places I have visited and the nostalgia of my own childhood. It always snows there, of course, and is full of festive charm and joy. I picked Sky and Daz to be together from the start, there is some will they, won’t they and they both face their own challenges and some strong themes are explored which I have come to expect from Sue Moorcroft. They are always written well and sensitively and make you realise that we are all people doing our best with the lives we have but that people on the whole are kind and loving.

There are plenty of characters to meet and love. I especially liked Wilf, he so reminds me of my son at that age and grumpy Ruth, although a small character, really made me smile, we’ve all met a Ruth! This book, as with all Sue Moorcrofts books is a winner, you can never go wrong if you choose to visit Middledip!

This book is like one of those super snug onesies, a hug in a book, which I read over a few autumn evenings, with a blanket and hot tea. It’s really got me in the Christmas mood and has me wishing for snow too!

My Opinion

It was lovely to return to Middledip and even better to return with such a lovely festive novel. Whilst set in a familiar village, this one is full of brand new characters. This was easily one of those books where you have to read 'just one more chapter' and if you do manage to put the book down then you will be drawn back in.

A very enjoyable book - although I could have guessed that as I have yet to be disappointed by a Sue Moorcroft book. This is a heart-warming tale showing how a community can be united by even the simplest of activities, in this case a Christmas decoration competition.

I loved the storyline and festive feel throughout this book. Sky Terran’s backstory is a sad one as she was parented by a drug and alcohol- addicted single parent. The one bright light in her childhood was coming to stay with her foster mother in Middledip. It was here that she was introduced to Freddy, a foster child who became more like a brother to her. That is, until a recent falling out changed everything.

Now back in Middledip in a house that Sky purchased at auction, she determined to not only restore this home back to its former glory but also to make a point of shedding her workaholic lifestyle. The holiday season is already in full swing and the pressures of living in a close-knit community soon have Sky making friends and accepting help more than at any other time in her life. As happy as she is in her new home and community, she wishes to resume the relationship she once had with her foster brother.

She meets Daz at the auction where she made the purchase of the house – he was also bidding on the house. Despite his disappointment in losing the house to Sky, the two soon begin a friendship and then a relationship. Daz’s own backstory is well-written and meaningful. When Daz’s ex turns up in town, the relationship becomes strained and communication breaks down. Now the two most important men in Sky’s life are no longer part of her life.

I loved the festive feel of this book. There is plenty of neighbourhood activities, and Sky’s love of nature and the environment comes through strongly. There is a cast of supporting characters which are well-developed with their own interesting backstories. Wilf, a child in the book, is currently experiencing challenges that Sky can relate to. I loved the relationship that develops between the two of them.

A White Christmas on Winter Street is now one of my favourite holiday reads and one I will return to over the years. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys holiday reads.

A comfy cosy Winter read as you'd expect from Sue Moorcroft.

Sky finds herself without a job, and desperate for comfort. When a house in the village of Middledip comes up for auction, a village where she has happy memories of being fostered by Nan Heather, she jumps at the chance to buy it. Will she be accepted by the villagers, and will Daz (who was also bidding on the property) be able to forgive her for beating him to it?

Filled with interesting characters (Wilf was wonderful, as was Marianne!), lots of little side stories and misunderstandings galore, it is a wonderful book to curl up with on a cold evening.

What's it about (in a nutshell):
White Christmas on Winter Street by Sue Moorcroft is a lovely contemporary holiday story that will warm the heart of anyone who reads it.
Initial Expectations (before beginning the book):
I've read a Sue Moorcroft Christmas tale before, so I know to expect an exploration of some serious issues…maybe a lot of serious issues… before it gets to the gift of a story that is sure to warm my heart all the best ways.
Actual Reading Experience:
I was very right in my initial expectations. I loved the family themes, which focused on mostly broken families and how the children cope and learn to extend their definition of family. All stories surrounding this theme are all handled with a great deal of sympathy and warmth.
The main character, Sky, is very eco-conscious, and she gives lots of interesting information and ideas for protecting our environment. I didn't already know some of it and found it fascinating to learn about.
I enjoyed the quintessential Christmas feel. A street in a small village going all out for a Christmas decorating contest is a visual treat. I can imagine the lights and snow, plus all the other decorations. In my mind, it was just like a winter wonderland.
Characters:
Sky Terran is fiercely independent and successful and works very hard when she's passionate about something. I love that she can do what suits her, even when it's the more challenging choice. She is also kind and patient and has a way with kids and adults.
Freddy Walker is a self-made man and Sky's foster brother from their time with Nan Heather in Middledip Village. They have grown the business Freddy started as an adult and worked very well together. They are a true team until Freddy hires Minnie and falls in love.
Daz Moran is a video game developer who lives in Middledip. He leads with his heart and tries to make the world a better place for all the people in his life. When Sky outbids him on a corner house in Middledip, it starts something that neither could have imagined.
Narration & Pacing:
The story is written using 3rd person narration that primarily focuses on Sky. However, it does switch to Daz, also from time to time. I thought this worked, but I wouldn't have minded if it had solely been in 1st person from Sky's perspective. In stories as emotional as this one, a more personal approach often ramps up the emotional impact.
The pacing is slow to medium. It is not a story that I breezed through quickly as I took in all of the emotional aspects that are incredibly impactful. The emotions involved in this story demanded a slower pace for maximum effect.
Setting:
The setting is a small village in England called Middledip. It's very quaint and friendly, and Sky has an emotional attachment to the area, giving it even more impact. I love the imagery of a small village participating in a Christmas decoration contest.

Yet another fabulous book by Sue. All of her books have been comfortable and easy reading and this one is no exception.

I am a confirmed fan of Sue Moorcroft’s writing and especially look forward to her Christmas book each year. She writes stories that are bound to leave the reader feeling well in the mood for the festive season. I was delighted to find that this book was going to take me back to the Cambridgeshire village of Middledip, the setting for many of her previous tales. As expected, I was quickly lost in the world of the characters and looking forward to Christmas in this little village.



The story concerns a newcomer to Middledip, Sky Terran. She has left her once-happy job working with a property developer who she has known since childhood, and bought a run-down house on Winter Street. She is planning to renovate the house and grounds gradually, but the committee in charge of the annual Christmas decoration competition, entered by Winter Street this year, has other plans. She finds that she is expected to have her garden tidied and decorated within a matter of days. Luckily, she finds that she has willing helpers in her neighbours, especially Daz and his friends. As she finds herself becoming drawn closer to Daz, his ex-wife turns up obviously intent on winning back his affections. Relations become strained between Sky and this handsome man, but with the excitement of the competition growing in the background, can they overcome their difficulties and give in to the obvious attraction between them?



I absolutely loved this story. As a regular reader of Sue Moorcroft’s books, I enjoyed returning to Middledip and some familiar faces and locations, although there were plenty of new characters to meet as well. I liked Sky and her determination to branch out on her own after she was let down by someone she trusted. I could understand her being pulled towards the lovely house she bought, but, with its run-down interior and jungle of a garden, what a job she was giving herself. She has had a troubled past and found it hard to accept help, but what better person could she open up to but the gorgeous and dependable Daz; he’s definitely a neighbour we would all like to have. I’m sure that even if you haven’t read any of the other stories set in Middledip, you can’t fail to be drawn to the village and its inhabitants, new and old. With all the twinkly lights and heaps of snow, this is one Christmas book that will leave all its readers humming Christmas songs and looking forward to their own festivities.

If I'm being honest, I'm surprised how much I enjoyed A White Christmas on Winter Street by Sue Moorcroft. I was wary as I began reading. I've proof-read a lot of books recently that have main characters weighed down with baggage from their pasts that completely defines them. So Sky was a welcome change. Certainly, she has had a lot to deal with but still manages to interact with others and even take further knocks without becoming incapable. Her romance with Daz is well paced (although, in the real world, a bit speedy) and balanced. I also enjoyed the secondary storyline featuring the wife and son of a prisoner. Al in all this is an excellent Christmas story.

After losing her job, Sky returns to Middledip anticipating a quiet Christmas and getting used to her new life. However she’s quickly drawn into village life with a Christmas lights competition and soon grows to move the tight knit community she’s slowly becoming part of. Such a wonderful book. I found myself crying very early on and there were so many moments that had me really feeling the emotions of the characters. All of the MC were written so well and developed throughout the story. I really enjoyed each of their individual tales. A heart warming read about overcoming your past and making a better future

Sue Moorcroft has packed a lot of interesting issues and information into this seasonal read.. Covering topics ranging between alcoholism to fraud, deception to romance, ecology to new beginnings and friendship to forgiveness. This story had me hooked from the beginning.
With a strong up cycling and green ethos, lead character Sky informs without patronising or preaching.

This is a lovely seasonal read.
