Gideon gets a phone call in the middle of the night from his five year old daughter. She is staying overnight with Sarah, her mother. Emily is in tears, she says they are in the cupboard & the whispering man is back! Gideon & Sarah had been happily married until Sarah lost the baby she was carrying & her parents dying very shortly afterwards. Sarah, in spite of counselling & treatment was eventually taken into hospital & didn't want anything further to do with Gideon. It is three years since Sarah had been hospitalised & in that time Gideon has remarried & Emily has become very attached to Charlotte. Sarah knows she will have to work hard to get everyone to accept she is safe to have at least part custody of Emily. Struggling with dreadful insomnia she is determined to keep her daughter safe- but from what?

This was a gripping read. I felt very sorry for Gideon. He was obviously a nice guy but seemed to be easily persuaded! Charlotte may have been 'second best' & knew it but it became harder to sympathise with her as time went on- & as for her mother... Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book

OK. This book is not for me. Sorry. But I felt robbed of my time spent in reading. Don’t get me wrong but it didn’t do anything foe me.

Still, thanks to Netgalley for the ARC!

There is alot going on in this book. So keep your eyes and ears open. A book filled with suspense . I really appreciated the way you included mental illness in the book. This was a great read that I really enjoyed.

Unfortunately, I have been locked out of my netgalley account for a few months and was not able to see which books I had on my list or even know to check if they downloaded properly, in order to properly read and review. I do apologize and am doing a 3 for neutral. Will update once I’m able to obtain a copy and read!

Wowsers! Nicole Trope always writes the best gripping psychological thrillers. I am never ever disappointed.

Sarah had a happy life with her loving husband Gideon, young daughter Emily and a baby son soon on the way, however when she tragically loses her son and then her parents in a few short months it is too much grief for Sarah to handle, she pushes Gideon away and after a short time asks for a divorce. Then after not sleeping properly due to hallucinations has a breakdown resulting in her needing psychiatric treatment. Three months later after much intensive therapy Sarah feels ready to leave the clinic and restart her life again but much has changed in the outside world. Gideon has had a whirlwind romance with a new love, Charlotte and has married her and so, not only does Sarah needs to reconnect with her young daughter again, but also must prove to Gideon and Charlotte that she can be trusted to look after Emily on her own eventually hoping to share custody with them. All seems well to begin with, and Sarah is enjoying reconnecting with Emily and building a life for herself however soon strange things start occurring in and around Sarah’s apartment and once again Sarah wonders whether she is truly recovered and whether she can trust herself or are the hallucinations back and is she putting Emily in danger?

Wow what a book! I devoured this book in 4 days which is a record for me. I was so gripped I couldn’t bear to put it down! I really liked Sarah; she was trying so hard to use everything she had learnt in therapy to help her conquer her demons and was so desperate to get better and stay well so that she could be a good mum to Emily. I had serious misgivings about Charlotte and by the end of the book I hated her! But great writing once again from Nicole Trope to invoke such strong feelings in me for a character. I always know a book is good when I am thinking about it when I’m not reading it and this one did just that, I spent a great deal of time when I wasn’t reading it trying to figure out what was going on and although I did get some bits correct, the twist was quite a shocker.

All in all, utterly brilliant and definitely worthy of 5 stars. Any fans of psychological thrillers would really enjoy this.

Thank you to NetGalley, Nicole Trope and Bookouture for my advanced reading copy. Out now.

This book had me guessing with every page, and I just couldn’t turn them quick enough. It was fast paced, and had me sat on the edge of my seat. A very bingeable read, that shook me to the core!

This is a fast paced page turner I couldn’t put down. It kept me guessing until the very end. My thoughts on who was the victim and who was the villain also changed as this character driven thriller unfolded. “ Betrayal changes something in you, it forever alters how you look at the world, your perceptions.” Betrayal and lies motivate the characters in this entertaining, suspenseful and intriguing psychological thriller. “ It seems real enough, but maybe it’s just a façade. People lie all the time.” Who knows who is lying and who is telling the truth? Believing the wrong person may be deadly. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another juicy domestic thriller. The thought of another woman living my life with my husband, and my child - oh hell no! This is any mum or wifes worst nightmare.

This was a really fun, exciting and gripping read I really enjoyed the story line and the unexpected plot twists along the way. If you are looking for a fun, addictive and juicy thriller then this is the book for you.

A big thank you to netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was so good and had be grief from the start. It was an easy read and there were twists and turns everywhere, to the point that I didn't know if what was happening were real or imaginary. I will definitely read more by this author.

I love Nicole Trope books. These thriller with a hint of psychology and main focus on childen always keeps me awake at nights. This time... that was not such excellent that I thought it would be...

The idea is great. Ending? Mind-blowing. But in between... I have figured it out. I did. I saw it coming so the second part of the book was just guessing if I was right. So, not really relaxing, right?

So, I really appreciate her style, putting children well-being in the center but it is definitely one of her best books. She can do it better and she prove it many times before.

So, this time, it’s ok, but I would expected something bigger :)

Absolutely loved this, Nicole Trope yet again has written a wonderful, beautifully written and moving novel that I couldn’t put down. I couldn’t wait to get to the end, to see what would happen, and I did not see the twists and turns that ensued. Highly recommend this and all her novels!

4 suspenseful, creepy stars~

This was a good one! It had a slow build during the first half, but then it really started picking up the pace! Imagine that all of a sudden you started hearing "the whispering man" at night - not only hearing but seeing as well... And to make it worse, your young daughter can see him too. It is difficult to determine what is real and what is imaginary throughout as we get each character's perspective before things come to light. It definitely had a twisty plot and ending!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the digital ARC!

This has been another great outstanding story from one of my favourite authors Nicole Trope.

The story was an intense and intriguing one, told from the POV of three main characters being the husband, wife and ex-wife, also featured throughout the story was five year old Emily who was a little darling.

I was captivated for majority of the story, being the beginning and the middle, as it was fast paced, with some sitting on the edge of your seat in anticipation as to what might happen next and trying to figure out how it would all end, so the story was certainly well written in that respect. All of the characters were highly developed and believable too.

However unfortunately the story lost some of it's wow factor come the very slow paced and disappointing ending, maybe I was expecting too much but I was hoping for a final twist or an explosive/unexpected sort of ending but nope, it didn’t happen. The ending was a little bit predictable and empty for me, just felt like something was missing.

Until the ending, this was going to have been a 4 star rating for me, but then the ending happened and I finished the book feeling somewhat disappointed, that I felt like a I had no choice but to give this a 3 stars, although it’s more like 3.5.

Having read quite a few books by this author before, all of which were 4 or 5 stars, which is what made it so difficult to give this a lower than usual rating. However despite that Nicole is still one of my favourite authors and I will be continuing with read her other books that I’ve not had a chance to read as of yet.

An emotional story that deals with mental illness and betrayal. Full of suspense with twists and turns right through to the end. full of great characters that are crazy and manipulating, it is told from multiple points of views. You may need to suspend your belief for this twisty thriller, but if you can do that then its an enjoyable read.

Really enjoyed this psychological thriller. It's split between the ex wife (Sarah) and the newest wife (Emily( and struggle between them over Sarah's daughter and Sarah's seemingly still fragile menral heath. I really enjoyed the tension between the two ladies as it hurtles to a blinding climax. The ending is a bit far fetched but created a really great and unpredictable story.

I am a Nicole Trope fan, and this is another I will be recommending to friends. Sarah has left Gideon, and hopes to coparent with her ex and his new wife. Gideon will always have a special place for Sarah, the mother of their child. Even when she losses her mind, he is there. His new wife, is determined to put an end to this, and their relationship.
