The story starts slowly, building the tension steadily, then cranking up at the halfway point to a high octane, roller-coaster ride of an ending.

His Other Wife is exciting, credible and highly entertaining. The story was slightly disturbing at times as I couldn't tell whether it was her mind playing games or another person.

The characters were very well written and played their parts to carry the story forward perfectly.

I'm off to check out more of Trope's novels!

Many thanks to Bookouture for my tour spot.

If you are looking for a domestic thriller author that consistently delivers, Nicole Trope must be at the top of your list. Intense relationships. Realistic characters. Realistic events. Her writing just grabs your attention - easy to finish in one sitting.
Sarah carries tremendous guilt - so much grief experienced in a short time. In an effort to process, Sarah cuts her husband out of her life, forcing a divorce. Gideon complies - though he yearns for Sarah to allow him to help. Their daughter, Emily, caught in the middle.
Charlotte drives her relationship with Gideon - shortly after she proposed, Gideon places Sarah in care, his young daughter in their home full-time. And Charlotte loves it.
After a few months, Sarah is released and begins again with Emily.
Charlotte loudly informs Gideon Sarah isn't ready - but he encourages Sarah, supporting her progress.
Excellent read.

Another nail-biting belter from Nicole Trope. This story will keep you on the edge of your seat as the plot cleverly twists and turns and your brain frantically tries to unscramble who is telling the truth. There are hints to help you along the way, if you are paying attention.

The multi-layered plot is dark, intense, fast paced and convincingly twisted. It seems there is no limit to what people will do for love, - who do you believe?

The characters are very well portrayed, evoking feelings from the reader varying rapidly from empathy to dislike.

The settings come to life through convincing descriptions, allowing the reader to clearly visualise them, particularly those designed by Charlotte.

I was totally addicted to this psychological thriller.

A great 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟read.

This is the story of Gideon, his ex wife Sarah the mother of his daughter Emily and his new wife Charlotte. Sarah has insomnia, she believes sleep will lead to the death of a loved one so forces herself to stay awake. This leads to the appearance of “the whispering man”.

The prologue grabs your attention and then hurtles back four months previously where the author nearly veers into horror territory with five year old Emily phoning her dad in the middle of the night terrified. With Gideon finally realising Sarah’s mental health has been declining he makes the decision to have her admitted after five different therapists have seemingly failed.

Three people and one of them is crazy but as with all of Nicole’s books nothing and no one is ever quite as it seems.

Insomnia is not something I have much knowledge of as I am very fortunate in that I sleep like the dead. However the torment that Sarah goes through is so well written that you really feel for her even while you are questioning her sanity.

Charlotte I also felt for as it’s not easy being a step parent especially when the mother has been away and is now back on the scene. However she quickly loses patience with Sarah’s demands of Gideon and it seems her mask is slipping.

With Gideon stuck in the middle the red flags swoop you back to remembering the prologue.

I loved the authors last book The family across the street so I knew that would be a hard act to follow but that I would be in for a great read regardless.

So suspend your belief, leave your expectations at the door and enjoy this book for the twisty thriller it is!

Nicole Trope does it again! Every book she writes leaves me at the edge of my seat. His Other Wife has great characters, a suspenseful dramatic plot, and an ending that was truly shocking! I’ve read every book by Nicole Trope and this one is my new favorite!

Okay, I loved this one. The story is simple...a guy gets divorced and re-married. The stepmom struggles to find relevance in her new world. The ex-wife has some unfortunate struggles.

Although I figured out the ending quickly, the book was a quick read that I devoured. The author does a good job of ending each chapter in a way that makes it hard to put it down.

Thanks for the advance review copy.

happy #pubday to @nicoletropeauthor & her newest psychological thriller!

Gideon is taking another chance at love with his new fiancé Charlotte after a recent divorce from his first wife, Sarah. Charlotte is beautiful, successful, and most importantly, she adores his young daughter, Emily. this proves to be especially comforting after Sarah is admitted to a hospital amid hallucinations of “the whispering man” that prevent her from sleeping.

Charlotte is all too willing to step in as Emily’s mother figure and dote on her new family of 3; but when Sarah comes out of the hospital feeling refreshed and like her old self, Charlotte fears that she’ll get in the way of her picture-perfect family. with the help of her overbearing mother’s pep talks & life advice, Charlotte does what she can to keep her family together. meanwhile, Sarah is trying her best to stay strong for Emily’s sake, but after several strange occurrences, she wonders if she’s going crazy again…or if someone is trying to make her look that way.

this was a gripping psychological thriller that tested the boundaries of relationships old and new, both within romantic relationships and family members. i enjoyed the fast pace of this book and the development of characters. even though this was a quick read, it definitely didn’t lack in details or elements. i was able to figure out some twists in the story, but it didn’t ruin the overall suspense and thrill of the ending. you know something devastating happens at the very beginning of the book, making this a slow-burn despite its pacing.

i really enjoyed reading this book and will definitely be looking for more of Nicole Trope’s books in the future!

special thanks to @netgalley & @bookouture for the advanced copy!

I was really surprised by how much I liked this book! It was very hard to put down. Sarah asked Gideon for a divorce when it seemed her life was in shambles. Gideon moved on and married Charlotte while he continued to co-parent his daughter with Sarah. Neither woman can get along, but which one is lying? Do yourself a favor and pick up this book!

She has her husband. She has her child. She has her life... Sarah has mental health issues after losing a child to miscarriage, and her and her husband, Gideon, eventually split up, leaving their daughter, Emily, to Sarah. Gideon, although he never really got over Sarah, eventually remarries with Charlotte, who is very happy to have 5 year-old Emily to care for when Sarah's mental health worsens.
This is a battle between a man, an ex-wife and a new wife over a kid and what is best for her. The story is told in multiple POVs (Sarah's, Gideon's and Charlotte's). The tension was building through this psychological thriller with a love triangle all the way to an ending that was super predictable (I mean, I love it when I'm right, but I'm also disappointed because I do love to be surprised) and a bit overly dramatic ending.
Check your trigger warnings (mental health, miscarriage, etc.). There is a body image issue (towards a five-year-old, no less), but it is presented as being a bad thing, so I guess this is good. Also, I am sick of mothers pushing on their daughters to have kids... what is up with that anyway? I did love Emily's character, she's so cute and sweet, and doesn't deserve to be in such a dramatic setting. This was my first Nicole Trope book, and it was not my last.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley and Bookouture.

Nicole Trope’s His Other Wife is an utterly fantastic domestic thriller. After a number of tragedies, unable to deal with her reality, Sarah suffered a breakdown. She pushed her husband Gideon away, clinging only to her young daughter Emily. But it wasn’t long until she began to lose grip on reality and Gideon convinced her to seek help. Now months later, she is ready to rejoin society, and more importantly to to once again have her beloved daughter in her life. And while Gideon has seemed to have moved on and has even remarried, he believes in Sarah and her right to be a part of their daughter’s life. Charlotte, Gideon’s new wife, isn’t quite as convinced that Sarah is ready, nor is she thrilled with the idea of now having to share Emily’s attention. His Other Wife is a gripping and intense domestic thriller with a excellently flesh out cast of character and twisting plot that kept me flipping pages from start to finish. Thanks so much to Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review an eARC of His Other Wife.

Can little Emily have more than one mother? For that matter, can Gideon have more than one wife? Now divorced from Sarah, at her urging, Gideon eventually marries his girlfriend Charlotte. The couple provide a stable home for young Emily all while Sarah deals with a psychiatric break that ends up with her hospitalized for a few months. What happened that Sarah had to go into the hospital? Multiple phone calls from either Sarah or Emily to Gideon kept him on his toes as Sarah kept referring to someone at the whisper man. Terrified in her own home, eventually Sarah had a complete break.

Sarah is home now and she and Gideon must navigate shared custody of Emily, all while Charlotte start to show to signs of jealousy over any attention that Gideon is not giving her. The question that needs answering is whether or not Sarah is stable enough to care for Emily, all while Charlotte’s behavior begins to crack around the seams.

In this fast-paced novel by Nicole Trope, the tension ratchets up page after page. Whether or not Sarah’s insomnia and depression was able to be managed all while Emily‘s well-being might seem like the thread that holds this book together. However, there are more dynamics at play in this compelling read. This dramatic book was impossible to put down and came to a shocking yet satisfying conclusion.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

I was excited to read, His Other Wife, I have been wanting to try one of Nicole Trope’s books for awhile, the synopses are always interesting. When I saw, His Other Wife, was only 285 pages I was excited for a quick read and a fun adventure….but it took me two weeks to get through. It appears I have an unpopular opinion with giving, Nicole Trope’s latest book, 3.5 stars. I was just never fully invested in any of the characters. I feel as though I surmised the ending from the start and just began building evidence to justify my assumption one chapter at a time. I don’t want to give anything away so I won’t go further into the give always for me. I would be definitely give this author another go!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the complimentary eARC in exchange for my honest review!

This is not my first Nicole Trope novel and it will definitely not be my last. Gideon and has ex wife Sarah have a lovely daughter called Emily but when Sarah starts showing signs of mental health problems she checks in to rehab and Gideons new wife, Charlotte steps in as stepmother. To little Emily. All is well until Sarah is released from rehab and then things start to take a drastic turn as it is unclear if she is actually feeling any better than she was in the beginning. Who is lying, who is mad, who is making things up? This book kept me absolutely hooked until the very end with a dramatic ending and a whole host of family secrets that are eventually revealed.

EXCERPT: She is fighting the drug, resisting it but at the same time letting go. She can't be awake any more. How many hours has it been? Not hours, days and days. She's not allowed to sleep or he will come for her child.

'Your fault,' he whispers outside her window at night. 'Your fault and you don't deserve her. Your fault and I will take everything.'

ABOUT 'HIS OTHER WIFE': She has my husband. She has my child. She has my life.

I never thought I would end up here. Alone, in a cold one-bedroom apartment, only seeing my precious daughter once a week.

Another woman is living the life that was once mine. I wish I was still married to my ex-husband, the love of my life. I dream of tucking my five-year-old child into her ballerina bed sheets every night. I miss living in a beautiful house, the perfect family home, with a winding staircase and a sprawling garden.

I’d do anything to be with my family again. To start over and prove to them that I’ve changed, that I won’t lose control like before.

But when I get my second chance, the vicious messages come. The noises at night. The feeling of being watched. It’s happening all over again. I know I’m not going mad, but no one will believe me. I don’t know if I even believe myself.

All I wanted was my life back. But now my life is under threat – and my darling little girl is in danger…

MY THOUGHTS: What is it at the moment with authors and ridiculously OTT endings? This is the second book in a row that I have read where an overly dramatic ending has killed most of the the pleasure I took in the read.

Other than the ending, His Other Wife has a lot going for it. Sarah has fallen victim to a grief induced psychosis and is admitted to a psychiatric clinic, surrendering the care of their daughter Emily to her ex-husband Gideon his new fiance, Charlotte. Gideon is a complex character. He is kind, and obviously still in love with Sarah, but is easily manipulated by Charlotte. She sees in Gideon the embodiment of everything she has ever wanted, plus she gets a readymade daughter in Emily whom she adores.

Sarah, when she is released, is grateful for Gideon's support and envisages a happy future where they co-parent in harmony. She wants to make friends with Charlotte and make everything easy for Emily. It's at this point that Trope ratchets up the tension. I was fearful for Sarah. Was she again falling prey to the psychosis, or was there something far more sinister going on? I thought I knew. And I was kind of right, but Trope had a few surprises in store for me, and there was so much more to the situation than I had imagined.

This was a great read, until it wasn't.

THE AUTHOR: Nicole Trope went to university to study Law but realised the error of her ways when she did very badly on her first law essay because-as her professor pointed out- ‘It’s not meant to be a story.’ She studied teaching instead and used her holidays to work on her writing career and complete a Masters’ degree in Children’s Literature. After the birth of her first child she stayed home full time to write and raise children, renovate houses and build a business with her husband.
The idea for her first published novel, The Boy under the Table, was so scary that it took a year for her to find the courage to write the emotional story.
She lives in Sydney with her husband and three children.

This was such an exciting, page-turning book! I have already recommended His Other Wife to all my friends, this is great Netflix material, I hope someone picks up the rights because... WOW WOW WOW!!!

Gideon is a successful attorney and married to Sarah. They have a daughter, Emily, 5, and Sarah recently miscarried their baby boy. Her grief from this has totally overwhelmed her to the point she cannot sleep and is hearing what she calls the Whispering Man. She told Gideon she wants a divorce and Sarah was finally placed in a hospital for a time.

Gideon started seeing Charlotte, a sophisticated business woman who at age 40 has never had children. She is taken with Emily and wants nothing more than to be her mother. She cares for her deeply.

When Sarah is released from the hospital, she has her own apartment and Gideon lets her have Emily overnight here and there. Sarah has missed her daughter so much and wants to spend more time with her. But she is still shaky in her life and sees a therapist. She just wants to sleep and hopes not to hear the Whispering Man.

When Gideon marries Charlotte, she is not happy with the time Gideon spends with Sarah and becomes enraged about it. Gideon still cares for Sarah and is hoping she can get better. But, Charlotte wants both Gideon and Emily with her all the time. Will they find a way to be able to share this little girl?

This book builds with some compelling characters. At first I thought that Sarah truly belonged in a hospital long term, but things began to happen to make me realize that was not the case. But the real problem here is a surprise and gave me an “Ah-Ha” moment. This is a well-written and at times scary book that I think will keep readers hooked to the very last page. Enjoy!!
