Gideon takes a terrifying call from his five-year-old daughter Emily who says the whispering man is back and that she and her mother Sarah are hiding in a cupboard. Sarah has suffered some mental health issues but Gideon feels she has been improving and he is now wracked with guilt that he didn’t detect the signs of deterioration. Gideon is recently engaged to Charlotte who is eagerly anticipating stepping into a mother role. Gideon Sarah and Charlotte narrate.

The book starts really strongly with a heartbreaking beginning, you feel Sarah‘s torment but equally her love and overwhelming desire to protect Emily and keep her safe. Charlottes personality is conveyed well though she is very hard to like as the green eyed monster rears its ugly head. Sarah‘s point of view is done well, this is possibly the strongest narrative and you feel empathy for her and the situation she finds herself in. Gideon is a good caring man caught between a rock and a very hard place .

The dynamics between the menage are done well with tension building between Gideon and Charlotte and the growing confusion of Sarah.

However, the wheels come off for me as it moves towards the conclusion especially as I guess one quite substantial part. I find I don’t entirely buy into the ending which doesn’t make my jaw drop as others other books by Nicole Trope do .

Overall, it’s an easy and entertaining read, it does have some exceptionally good moments but in my opinion it’s not one of the authors best books..

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Bookouture for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

Firstly, I am thankful for the opportunity to have received a free advanced copy of this Ebook through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Sarah and Gideon have a daughter, 5 year old Emily. However after experiencing a late term miscarriage, and then losing both her parents, she spirals into depression which ends in her leaving her marriage.

Now Gideon has remarried and Charlotte loves her stepdaugther Emily.

But then they start receiving calls in the middle of the night from Emily, locked in a cupboard with Sarah hiding from the Whispering Man. Gideon knows he has no choice but have Sarah admitted to a clinic.

But is she really crazy or is there more at play?

I enjoyed this book and would recommend to those who enjoy a domestic thriller. 4 Stars.

Nicole Trope is a master of the domestic suspense genre. This book starts off with a bang!

Gideon is summoned, yet again, this time by his 5 year old daughter to save her and her mother, Sarah, Gideon’s former wife, from the Whispering Man. Sarah is almost delirious with lack of sleep. She has to protect her daughter, Emily, from the Whispering Man who plagues her nights, invading her head with thoughts about how everything is her fault. She doesn’t dare fall asleep in case the Whispering Man comes for Emily. Sarah had a late miscarriage 3 years ago and lost both her parents within a few months of that. The grief affected her very badly and even a string of different therapists couldn’t help. She became depressed and angry and finally drove Gideon away, kicked him out of his home. But of course that didn’t help either.

This time Gideon has had enough, he calls the paramedics and has her section for 72 hours with a view to placing her in a lovely private clinic where she can get the help she needs. He takes Emily to live with him and his fiancé, the very competent Charlotte. Their home is haven of peace and happiness and the couple have a small, private wedding while Sarah is at the clinic. Charlotte loves the delightful little Emily and enjoys mothering her.

After three months Sarah is ready to come home and resume being a mother to Emily. Gideon wants to phase this in slowly with supervised visits and sleepovers for one night at a time before they commence the long term shared custody of two weeks each. He wants to be sure that Sarah is truly well and can cope. Of course it is not long before the wheels start falling off again. Sarah constantly relies on Gideon for help and support and Charlotte is losing patience. Charlotte has a very close relationship with her mother on whom she relies for advice. Can you see the danger signals yet?

The characters are so well developed it feels like you are stepping into their lives. They feel real and you share the frustrations of both Sarah and Charlotte and you feel how torn Gideon feels as he is forced to chose between them. There is a sense of creeping menace. You start to become aware that things are not as they seem, and boy is that borne out by a shocker of an ending! This was another excellent offering by this talented Australian author. Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.

If you’re looking for an easy read that you can’t put down filled with some thrill and love drama, this one is for you! The beginning was slightly a slow roll but once you make it through it’s a rollercoaster of wild!

Sarah has a five year old girl named Emily who is as cute as a button. Her ex husband, Gideon, is such a good dad and man who still has a good relationship with his ex but is now married to Charlotte. The new wife wants so badly to have that perfect life and adores her husband and new daughter. Sarah has suffered loss and extreme angst and spirals out of control that leaves a Gideon no choice but to intervene. She goes to get help and is ready to come back and start fresh and reclaim her role as a good mother. But things start happening again and she feels like she’s losing control and she doesn’t understand how this can be happening. Add on Charlotte wanting to make sure she doesn’t lose her spot as wife and good mother and Gideon being torn between two women who mean everything to him.

It is told in three point of views and the ending was a bonus surprise!

Thank you to Bookouture and netgalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

Nicole Trope triumphs again. The emotional depth of this novel caught me by surprise snd I was completely invested in all three main characters in this thriller of love, family, deception and jealously. Hard to put down, easy to read, this became on of those just-one-more chapter sagas where the lights were on and it’s almost daybreak. Actually sad I finished it - could have kept reading for another day!

Started out kind of slow, not much going on. I expected a twist at the ending, but WOW, I was not expecting that. This is the first book I've read by Nicole Trope but I will read all her others now.

I felt like I was watching some thriller Netflix movie on the TV that intrigued me and that's how I am feeling about this book!

The story tells about Gideon who is dating a woman named Charlotte. However, despite him dating Charlotte, he still has feelings towards his ex-wife, Sarah with whom he has a daughter, Emily. Charlotte tries to be a part of the family. Sarah on the other keeps hearing voices although no one, not even her ex-husband believes her. She realizes that her daughter might be in danger and believe that maybe, someone was playing with her, even though no one is believing her.

The first part of the book was a slow burn but soon, towards the middle of the book, it started getting its momentum. The story is told from Gideon, Sarah and Charlotte's points of views and each of the character, particularly Sarah's character is an unreliable character that makes the reader wonder which of the characters is actually trust worthy. The book started getting fast paced by the middle of the book, I wouldn't say there were twists and turns but the ending...that actually blew my mind away. I did not expect an ending like that.

If you like a family drama with a love triangle, then this book might be one for you--worth four stars!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.

Warning: don't start this right before bedtime, you will have no choice but to stay up way past your bedtime and be tired as all heck the next day. This is an amazingly twisty, tense thriller. It is told from three POV's. Sarah is the ex-wife who suffered a mental breakdown after hearing "The Whispering Man" at her window each night, threatening to harm her child, Emily. After a stay in a mental health hospital, she is seemingly better. But maybe not. Gideon is Sarah's ex-husband, now married to Charlotte. He is concerned about his ex wife. Charlotte is the new wife, loving her husband and role as stepmother, and irritated that Gideon is at Sarah's beck and call, constantly running to her when she has a problem. I could not stop reading to figure out what was going on. Loved this!

This is a novel that intrigues...although the ending is easily discerned, the road to that end is a cannot put down book. The wives...the child...the husband, torn between two women...the scary parts...the mysterious character...this author can weave a story that keeps the reader on task...don't read this at night if you become frightened easily...don't believe every word you read in this novel...I liked this book...it moved quickly...a good one. This book was sent to me from Netgalley for review.

“𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐮𝐬𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐝. 𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝. 𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞.”

After Sarah suffered a breakdown after the loss of a pregnancy, she and her husband Gideon divorced at her insistence. Although he still loves Sarah, Gideon soon remarries another woman, Charlotte. The reader is instantly sucked in by the interesting family dynamic; every time Sarah calls, Gideon comes running. Charlotte feels like Sarah is trying to get Gideon back and is determined to limit her presence in their lives. At the heart of the family dynamic is Emily, Sarah and Gideon's young daughter. Charlotte relishes her role as stepmother and worries that Sarah is too unbalanced to care for her.

Sarah suffers from delusions brought on by "the whispering man," a nameless, faceless entity she hears each night when she tries to sleep. She hears fingernails at her window and the endless whispers blaming her for losing her child. After a brief stay in an institution, Sarah seems better...but when she realizes that things aren't happening the way she recalls, she begins questioning her own sanity. This was a dynamic, twisty thriller that had some pretty shocking twists. I'll definitely be reading more books from this author. While it wasn't even remotely close to being a horror book, I still had a nightmare about "the whispering man". Highly recommended! Publishes June 21, 2022. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my e-ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC of the new book by one of my favorite authors. The story follows a love triangle as Sarah and Gideon get divorced and then he marries Charlotte. The problem was Gideon never wanted to get divorced in the first place and Sarah seemed to have had a mental health crisis where she wanted him gone. The person in the middle is their small child Emily. Charlotte, the new wife, wants to take Sarah's place and goes to great lengths to do so with the help of other family members. Definite twist at the end. Would recommend.

This book, like many other books by Nicole Trope starts off right in the middle of the drama and never lets off the gas until the very last pages. The book starts off with our main characters, Charlotte and Guideon, getting a call in the middle of the night from Guideon's daughter Emily. She is supposed to be at her mothers however her mother is seeing hallucinations and hearing voices again. It is always the same thing a man looking in her window and hearing voices about someone trying to harm her child. While that is just the beginning the plot is amazing and nothing like I've ever read before. So it was a nice chance from the thrillers with similar plot lines. This book is told through three different points of view, Sarah, Guiedon's ex wife, Charlotte' Guideon's new wife,
and Guideon himself. I liked how the author did this because it lets me as a reader understand what is going on with each character and how they are viewing the situation without having to have them interact at all times to do so. I'm not usually a big fan of the multiple points of view however I understand why it was needed in this case and I think that it gave the reader more information that we wouldn't have gotten otherwise. I found the plot was very interesting and I liked how it was so multi layered. This is one thriller that I won't be able to stop talking about because it has everything you need, characters you love, a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat and a writing style that puts you right in the middle of the story and blocks out everything else. I'm so glad I got the chance to read this novel there were so many twists that I never would have seen anything coming but that is part of what made this so great. I can't get enough of this book or this author and I cannot wait until this book is published.

Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture, and Nicole Trope for my gifted copy!

Synopsis:
When Gideon is called to his ex-wife Sarah's house in the middle of the night by their young daughter, he knows it cannot go on like this. He has to get Sarah some help because she keeps imagining being visited by the Whispering Man telling her that he's about to take her daughter. But when she's back from the clinic, Sarah seems like the old her, and Gideon is intrigued. Much to the dislike of his new wife, Charlotte...

My thoughts:
This book was such an unique take on the (ex-)wife-going-mad trope which I like either way. I literally couldn't put the book down, there were so many deliciously deliberately unlikeable characters that reminded me of a Kaira Rouda novel. I was on the edge of my seat trying to find out what was going on. I did guess one of the major twists, but I loved how everything unraveled. Anddd I really liked the creepy aspect of it all.

This was my second book by this author, and it's my favorite so far.

His Other Wife is my second book by Nichole Trope, and, once again, she did not disappoint. I will continue to seek out and read her exciting, gripping, what-happens-next books. The story is told through three POVs: Gideon, Sarah, and Charlotte - the author's use of the three POVs was excellent! I honestly felt for each character at various times throughout the book. The story follows Sarah, after her treatment at a mental health clinic, her ex-husband Gideon, who still cares deeply for Sarah, and Charlotte, the new wife and excited step-mother. There is lots of drama and emotion. The author not only keeps you wanting to know what happens next but also forces you to feel for each character. I'll definitely be both recommending His Other Wife and reading more of Nicole Trope's books!

Thank you Net Galley for an ARC of His Other Wife by Nicole Trope. I loved this! This is a really good Mystery/ Thriller. I had it figured out early, otherwise it would have been a 5 star for me!

Nicole Trope is one of those, fly to the top of my TBR list as soon as she has a new release out and this book was absolutely up to par!! Suspenseful from the very first page, I'm obsessed with the way her books are never a slow burn. I did have the ending of this one figured out very early on but I still couldn't help but devour every word til the very end. Loved it!
