I was attracted to this title because it sounded too nutty to pass up. It was definitely that, but it was also enjoyable and I look forward to the next volume. I love animal heroes, especially when they work alongside humans. This rooster is fierce!

This is a graphic novel based on a rooster. He's brave and doesn't even back down from demons.
Net Galley let me read this book for review (thank you). It has been published and you can get it now.

The rooster is a wanderer and likes to fight. He also has a secret weapon: his cock-a-doodle-do. Each chapter is a new challenge for him. He fights with the demons and wins. Makes friends with a sea turtle. And even has an encounter with a small chick.

It reads like a comic book and you won't be bored!

This feels like the most stereotypical samurai manga or tough guy action hero story (e.g., Fist of the North Star) but the protagonist is a rooster! He can kill demons with his crowing and is on a quest to avenge his family. Totally ridiculous and over the top but sort of fun too. I imagine this won't hold up over time, but volume one was fun.

I tried to get into Rooster Fighter, but it missed the mark for me. I'm sure it has an audience, but it isn't me.

Pretty good - 3.5 stars. I enjoy the humor of the tough "guy" persona from a literal chicken. There's a real One Punch Man feel in terms of humor from this. Obviously only read the first volume, so there's little characterization and diversity of fights so far - unfortunately the down side of serialized stories. But I'd read a second volume, sure.

Thank you to Netgalley & the publisher for an advance readers copy in return for an honest review.

Tagline: Giant demonic monsters wreak havoc and level Japanese cities! While the citizens flee in terror, it’s up to one brave rooster to stand his ground!

How can you not enjoy something like this? It is fun quirky & the art work was enjoyable. Just a tad too long of a story for me. Would have been rated higher with one less segment! But still recommend to any graphic novel fans!

This is absolutely bonkers.

Imagine someone read One Punch Man and thought 'Hey, why not make the main character a Rooster with a tragic backstory?'. This is what this manga is.

Full of humour and action, this follows a rooster who is fighting demons, who are destroying the city, while also trying to find the demon who killed his sister so he can avenge her. Along the road, he finds himself in wacky scenarios and intense demon fights that leave you in awe.

The big appeal is that it takes an absurd premise, but make it work. It revels in how ridiculous it can be, while also making the serious moments carry weight. It never gets too ridiculous where nothing feels real, as it balances the pathos well enough to make you laugh out loud, but then feel the emotional moments hit hard. It's amazing how well the mangaka can make it work.

I definitely recommend this to shonen fans. It's a great addition to the genre and one that provides a belly of laughs.

Really enjoyed this book! Outside of my normal wheelhouse. Follows a rooster who is a spoof of an action hero. Hilarious! I enjoyed how serious the book portrayed it, added to how enjoyable it was.

This was a fun read! A bit different than my usual manga, but it was enjoyable. The art was fresh and clear. The story was hilarious and ridiculous. I definitely plan to pick up the next volume!

This was another one where I read a sample and it grabbed me, so I requested it.

Alright, let me tell you, I did NOT think I would be interested in this one at ALL and if I hadn't read the sample chapter, I wouldn't have even thought to pick this one up.

I am SO GLAD that I did! I guess I expected this to be stupid or cheesy and it was NOT. I was the stupid one for making groundless assumptions based off of what I thought a manga about a rooster fighting demons would be like. So yeah, that whole saying, don't judge a book off of it's cover/synopsis? So true.

Anywho, this book DID start off with some rather adult content, Mr. Rooster was having some..."evening fun" with a hen. I was not expecting that. Also, SUPER violent. Granted, it is demons getting horribly killed and they DO need to be stopped so they won't kill innocent people/animals, and it does kind of happen off page, but the aftermath and the outlines of how they die is pretty violent. So just a warning, not for the little ones for sure.

And I have to exclaim, OMG there is a SHOEBILL as a character in this!!!! They are only the MOST TOTES ADORBS birds EVAR!!!!

Worth the read, if only for the shoebill, lol.

Recommending if you like the idea of a vengeance-seeking rooster slaying murderous demons in violent ways, while making friends along the way. Also totes adorbs is his young sidekick. That chapter nearly wrecked me, FYI. The love he had for his "daddy"!!! Also, what that poor man went through. So sad.

4, I did not expect to like this as much as I did, stars.

My thanks to NetGalley and VIZ Media LLC for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.

This is a riotously fun manga. I'm so glad this was licensed- I've been excited to read it since I heard about it. Can't wait to see what students think of it!

I went into this expecting a fun and ridiculous time about a chicken fighting demons…. and that’s exactly what I got. The premise is obviously very original and the execution was fantastic. This manga doesn’t take itself too seriously and is very tongue and cheek.

What an odd, odd story. But if you are looking for a truly heroic rooster story, then this is the manga for you.

For Libraries: Content includes some language, quite a bit of monster violence and some chicken sex. Otherwise, not a lot to find issues with.

A rooster is strutting around Japan hunting for the demon who killed his sister. Along his journey he aids an kindly old gentleman who rescues him from a a pair of nasty schoolboys, visits a zoo and befriends southern birds while fighting another demon, then gets a taste for sea urchins and finds a sparring partner in a sea turtle while saving a cruise ship, and finally manages to defeat a demon and save the man infected all while being a model of sorts to a chick called Duty. A nicely drawn manga that weaves realistic images with fantastic elements to make for an absurd hero who has a super-power all his own!

Thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to read this title!

This was a unique graphic novel/manga. We find a rooster as an unlikely hero, but he proves his worth in fighting and killing demons. He meets other people and animals who help him along the way. I see a sidekick and other battling chickens and roosters emerging for volume 2. It was a little goofy, but entertaining too.

This is a story of a wandering Rooster who is in search of the demon who killed his little sister. It's funny, sweet and the demons are interesting. Ugly but interesting.

“Hilarious. Ridiculous. Gimme more.”
A rooster with incredible superpowers and huge demons that are terrifying and hilarious at the same time. A fun parody of superhero manga that plays with the motifs of the genre: lightning missions, uncanny demons, spectacular fight scenes and... a very muscled rooster?

If you like fun, weird, superhero manga like 'One-Punch Man', this is your next read.

A pretty great read. A very Japanese samurai story about honor and defending the weak and vulnerable against tyranny and demons, but with a chicken.

Loved this book so much. It's definitely an adult manga title (not YA - this is absolutely a seinen and not shonen), but that doesn't detract from the appeal. It does so much to take common seinen tropes and mock them without seeming as silly as it truly is. I'll absolutely read the rest of this series for however long it runs, and I've already recommended/hyped it to patrons at my library. I'm so excited to see what this does now.

This manga has an interesting concept, with a main character I could see readers really getting a kick out of, but it wasn't quite for me. The idea of the demons and how they sprout has potential, but the plot itself didn't feel cohesive enough and I was hoping for more context as to why a rooster would be capable of taking down a giant demon. All in all, it just didn't mesh with me as a reader.
