Bronwyn Pickering is an entomologist who doesn't share her controlling, ambitious parents' goal for a titled marriage in her future. Meanwhile, Ash Hawkins, Duke of Buckley, rushes to the Isle, a place beloved by his mother that holds unhappy memories for him. The only thing that could draw him back is the theory that his two runaway wards are hiding from him there at the family home. With their older sister in tow, he is relieved to discover that the two girls are safe and sound but refusing to come home. The wild young ladies have bonded with a local entomologist, a great feat given their propensity for scaring off any nanny or governess he's put in their path. And so the idea strikes-- what about a marriage of convenience? Then, Ash could return to his business, a gambling den in London, leaving the girls in a situation that might finally make them happy.

The book's a bit clunky and redundant at the start in building background-- it means the first 100 pages are slow but not in the sense of a delicious slow burn. This includes tireless references to the duke's nebulous "shame," like wow, I get it-- he's tortured, etc. Once the marriage begins, things get more manageable. The two intend to spend a brief time together to protect Bronwyn from the backlash if Ash leaves her immediately after they're wed. They also agree to a physical relationship during that period and are both shocked to discover feelings developing. But the nature of their agreement means neither wants to let the other know things have changed. Ash gives Bronwyn the gift of being her greatest supporter, enthusiastic about her scientific endeavors. And Bronwyn gives Ash the gift of a real life, letting him set down his burdens and enjoy their moments together while also forging bonds with the young girls in his care. I love romances with teenagers involved as side characters, but it makes the stakes higher. In this case, it was a mixed bag for me. I appreciated the story of Bronwyn building something with the girls and encouraging Ash with how to do the same. But I thought the girls themselves were a bit one-dimensional, each filling a necessary role and coming around almost too easily given their history as hellions.

This is a great historical romance for those who like bluestocking heroines, moody aristocrats, and a story about becoming a family in truth rather than just in name. Thanks to Forever for my copy to read and review!

Some Dukes Have All the Luck was a delightful regency romance featuring a marriage of convenience. Bronwyn agrees to his proposal to escape her dictatorial parents and have the freedom to pursue her entomology interests. Ash Hawkins, Duke of Buckley proposes a marriage of convenience after seeing how well his wards get along with Bronwyn after they've run off several governesses . With a dark family history he doesn't believe he deserves happiness.

I loved the main characters and their chemistry! Bronwyn sees the real Ash under the facade he wears to keep others away. She shows him he deserves to be part of a family. Ash supports her and shows her she has value. So much emotion! There's a great cast of supporting characters which I hope we see more of in future books. The story has plenty of steam too and I binged it in a day. Can't wait to read the next book!

Wow was it sweet to watch them grow together. They just needed some healing, and I'm so glad they were able to bring it to each other.

This is my first read by this author and boy did it become a favorite. I can't wait to find some time to check out some more. The way Britton weaved through love was beautiful, and I just wanted more.

I think the only reason I can't give this five stars is because of the... well, bugs. Did I know about them going into this? Absolutely, but who can pass up a free book with incredible writing? I'm so lucky to be able to review books, and I don't want to let one little phobia keep me from the greats.

And this one is just that: one of the greats.

Its disappointment turned into love. Making your way in a world that doesn't make space for you. Making a family when yours doesn't treat you like a part of theirs. It's kind, and understanding, and loving. Words can be so fun when put together like this.

Miss Bronwyn Pickering has always been more interested in bugs than marriage much to the dismay of her parents. After a recent discovery on the isle, Bronwyn's entomology research is more important to her than ever. But with her parents threatening to find her a husband of their choosing, Ash's offer is the answer to all of her problems. Marriage will give her the freedom to continue her work but she'll have to keep herself from becoming distracted by her handsome new husband.

I’m always a fan of the blue stocking angle in regency pieces and this did not disappoint. Very heartwarming and I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

This was my first Christina Britton novel to read. It was truly such a good spicy historical romance! Perfect for my day at the beach! I cannot wait to read more books by Christina in the future! The Duke of Buckley is seriously such a prefect morally grey character and his relationship with Bronwyn is just swoon worthy!

I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys Sarah Mccleans or Lisa Kleypas books. Spicey Historical Romance with an amazing driving plot!

Such a heart warming romance.

As much as it made me smile while reading all the interesting entomological details about the heroine's scholarly ventures, It also brought a tear or two to my eyes by the time it was the end.

Ash is such a sweet fool. He's flapper gastard at the antiques of his uncontrollable wards. May it be the opening scene where Regina busrts into his gambling club in trousers the scene where Nelly and Eliza are building the chair castle, the poor man is clueless what to do. The author fills the pages with energy whenever the siblings are in the middle of their antics it's so refreshing.

Brownvyn was perfect for him. An odd mental herself who has never fit in perfectly and loses herself her beetles rather than people, she helps him as well herself. The marriage of convenience works perfectly as he parents force her to choose a husband or be banished until she becomes perfectly ladylike.

I hadn't written a review earlier but as the next book also came in I wanted to post this one asap. Thank you, netgalley and forever, for the ARC!

This incredibly late review is, nonetheless full of ALL THE STARS. This was my first-ever Christina Britton book and it won't be my last. A deep-dive of her backlist is absolutely in order after this delightful, spicy, smart, sweet novel.

I loved how true Bronwyn remains to herself, and how she makes space for Ash's wards to find their own truth as a result. And while Bronwyn and Ash are undoubtedly opposites, their attraction is multi-faceted in that mind/body/spirit way that makes me swoon. Even Ash's relative foolishness in Act III couldn't sully the incredible affection I have for him and these two as a couple.

Five stars. One true pairing. Zero complaints.

Ash has been given guardianship over three girls. The younger two run away and they need to find them. They discover an old journal from Ash's mom telling of her time on the Isle of Synne. They decide to look there for the girls. He runs into Browyn and he is intrigued. He proposes a marriage of convenience on the next meeting. Browyn's parents are social climbers and just awful to Browyn.

This is a new genre for me, historical romance. I enjoyed the book and the characters and their stories. I'm intrigued to read more from this author.

This book was just sadly not for me! I was hoping for something different but it turned out to be something I was not expecting, which is okay and I'm sure someone else would love it!

Ash, the Duke of Buckley, is the owner of a gaming hell and in charge of three hoydens who are a handful. Ash had a very hard childhood so he's very soft on his charges. Bronwyn wants nothing more than to be a spinster to be free to work on her entomology research. This is a marriage of convenience. Bronwyn will look after his charges and continue her research and he will live in London to stay in business. After a whirlwind two weeks, they are married and settled. Ash promised Bronwyn two weeks to be together and then they will both live separately. But between following her around and his charges falling in love with Bronwyn....will he too? I loved this couple. He adores her and encourages her. And she brings light into his life. Loved this romance!!

Christina Britton is on my must-buy list.

This one is a absolute delight. Her characters always draw me in and make the romance that much sweeter.

I really liked this book. Steamy, hot scenes that kept me reading along all night! A must read! Loved the characters and the story!

I enjoyed the romance storyline but the kids were tiresome. Would have liked the book more if the two younger girls weren't so annoying. That being said, the two MCs are good together on page, and this is a low-angst read otherwise.

I love the flow of this book. Three girls under the care of a Duke who appeared not to want them. The book describes the place women had in the world at this time period. Can a damaged Duke and his three damaged wards make a family? You must read to find out but let me say you will enjoy the journey

This is the first book of the Synneful Spinsters series and a lovely start to what looks to be a fun and entertaining series. Ash is a duke and the owner of a gaming hell. He has no aspirations to marry but as the guardian of three rebellious wards, he knows he cannot go on alone for much longer. When he learns of his two youngest wards running off and he goes off in search of them, he finds them entertained and somewhat captivated by a young lady. Upon meeting Bronwyn, he comes to the conclusion that Bronwyn would be the perfect woman to enter into a marriage of convenience with him and become his duchess. Bronwyn is a naturalist and spends her time inspecting bugs and insects. Her parents are not happy with her interests and threaten to send her to live with her strict brother if she does not marry. She finds Ash's proposal the perfect solution to appease her parents and continuing pursuing what she loves.
Ash only expected to have a marriage of convenience and someone to help raise his wards. He never expected to fall for the intelligent woman with such passion for her work and everything else she does. Bronwyn only wanted to marry so she could get out from under her parents restrictions, but she can't help but feel the sparks when Ash is near her. It was charming to watch how Ash fell in love with her as he got to know her more, and the bond that developed between them and the wards was sweet.
I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to continuing the series!

I have not read any book by this author before and I feel like this was a great beginner series book. Ash and Bronwyn were absolutely complete opposites and that makes them more of a match. I love hoe Regina was so protective of her sisters. But most of all I loved the Isle of Synne. I cant wait to read more.

liked the set up and the cast of characters but this didn't stick with me as much as I had hoped, but I might read the rest in series because I love smart heroines!

One word: ANGST.
Which in hindsight means I probably wasn't in the right mind to read it when I did. It was really heavy for me. There was also a couple plot holes at the end of the book that still have me scratching my head.

What I liked: bluestockings! One of my favorite tropes that I can either love or hate and in this case I loved Bronwyn. For all the s**t she has to deal with she has a solid head on her shoulders. Ash was also quite a likeable hero. I'm always a bit leery of dukes because the genre itself is so saturated with them, but I like Ash. He doesn't come with a pretty typical "I don't want to be like my father" backstory which can get old, but I thought Britton managed his overcoming that battle pretty well.

This was absolutely completely and utterly perfect. I loved the characters so much, and I was completely invested in all of the different character relationships. Despite being a romance, I found the friendships and other relationships to be just as, if not more compelling than the romance! I’ll definitely be reading more from this author, I loved this so much :)

2 out of 5 stars. Unfortunately, I kept falling asleep or zoning out while trying to read this. I tried to read this book on 4 different occasions, but it did not grab my attention at all. The writing seemed off and I had no idea what I was reading half the time. Luckily, the next book in the series looks so much better! A pining heroine!!
