So packed with action, you won’t be able to put it down! The Sky King Ranch series (Susan May Warren) continues with Sundown. Life in Alaska is never dull… at least not at the Kingston’s ranch. Trouble seems to find them wherever they go!

Russian mobsters, shootouts, and a bioterrorism attack—can the Kingston brothers and their lovely ladies put a stop to all the chaos before it’s too late?? Don’t forget some insane family dynamics, dramatic budding romance, and characters working to overcome their biggest nightmares. Add it all together and that’s what makes Sundown such a page-turner!

If you love books by Lynette Eason, Lynn H. Blackburn, and Natalie Walters, this fast-paced, action-packed suspense novel is just for you!

Perfect ending to a wonderful series! You have to read the books in order to get the full effect. Susie Mae Warren blends an excellent tale of love, adventure, and mystery. I enjoyed every moment. The Spiritual messages she wove into the fabric of the character's lives touched my heart. I highly recommend this entire series!

Sundown is exactly the ending that the Kingston Brothers trilogy needed! Colt Kingston, former Delta Special Forces, just wants the truth from Tae. While he's taken in by Tae's beauty and her willingness to help care for him as he recovers, he also knows that she is harboring a secret that could bring danger to the entire family

Tae is used to going it alone and doesn't want to have to depend on anyone else for her survival. But she soon learns that this is one situation where she will need the help of many in order to keep her alive and also provide a life-saving vaccine to the world.

Warren has once again written a book filled with suspense, romance and favorite characters. I love seeing all of the guys from Jones, Inc popping in and out of the story (and it makes me want to track down a few of their stories I haven't read yet!). There is so much depth in storytelling woven throughout each book of this series, that you feel drawn in and immersed in the lives of the Kingston brothers. I enjoyed every moment of this book!

Just a bunch of action I didn't care about.

This is the third book in the Sky King Ranch trilogy and you definitely have to read the first two books to understand anything that is going on in this book.

You follow the last brother who needs to have some action and romance and boy does this book give it to him. I liked Colt in the first 2 books, but he just didn't interest me in this one. The action was too much to feel connected to the characters.

I also didn't like the romance very much. I didn't see the connection there and it felt forced. It was like if there wasn't a Russian threat looming, the characters wouldn't have any substance or reason to exist. 🤐

I'm not done with Susan May Warren by any means. The Christiansen Family series is amazing and an all time favourite. I wish she would write more books like that series over focusing so much on suspense.

Sundown

by Susan May Warren

This action packed Christian romance centers around triplets Dodge, Colt, and Ranger. Each of these men served their country in a different branch of the military; they continue to find themselves involved in rescue operations. Sundown is the third book in the Sky King Ranch series and it focuses on Colt, a daredevil since childhood. There are also women in the book who play an important role in each man’s story. For Colt, it is the beautiful, intelligent Dr. Taylor (Tae) Price whose research is sought after by the Russian mafia to provide a bioweapon for terrorism.

The characters go through a lot physically, mentally, and spiritually as they face off with deadly terrorists, the hauntings of their own backgrounds, and relationship struggles. All of their issues eventually lead them back to the role of God in their lives.

I like Sundown and recommend it; but because each book introduces a different brother, there are a lot of characters and backstories to catch up with if you start with this third book. Author Susan May Warren does a good job of inserting information from previous books, but the initial chapters were a struggle for me. My advice is to read all three books in sequence: Sunrise, Sunburst, and Sundown.

My other issue is that Tae’s research deals with recreating a lost strain of smallpox that could destroy the world and then devising a vaccine for it. The whole process was rushed through so that this untested vaccine could be “approved” by the FDA. As has been shown in recent years, the untested vaccine could be as deadly or more so than the disease. Without the history of the last few years, I could have more easily accepted the premises as fiction and just enjoyed the story.

Rating: 4/5

Category: Romance, Christian, Fiction, Suspense

Notes: As this is #3 in the character rich Sky King Ranch series, I suggest you not read this as a standalone.

Publication: November 1, 2022—Revell (Baker Publishing)

Memorable Lines:

“You’ve always belonged here. But until you forgive yourself, you’re going to keep running, going to keep believing that you’re trouble. Until you let God tell you how much he loves you, how much he has done for you, you’ll believe you’re not worth saving.”

“In the Bible, God is repeatedly with his people when they’re fighting evil. I think there is such a thing as a righteous battle, and when we are on the side of saving lives…well, God is about life and truth, so I think that puts us on his side.”

“I used to think that way. That if God didn’t answer me, or not in the way I wanted, that he didn’t care or even like me. But that’s not true. I’ve started to see God at work all over my life. Now and in the past. He wasn’t ignoring me. I just didn’t see his work until I wanted to.”

Sundown by Susan May Warren is a phenomenal work of Christian fiction. This adventurous thriller will have you at the edge of your seat throughout the book. Pick up this book when you know you have time to read because you won’t be able to put it down. Like other books by this author, the action is not the only thing that keeps you reading. The characters and their complicated pasts that keep resurfacing will hook you from the start. This book can be read as a standalone novel, but it means so much more if you’ve read the previous books first. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

Another great one from Susan May Warren. We don't just hear from Colt and Tae; the other brothers make an appearance too along with other characters from different series. Definitely a dramatic ending!

2.5 Stars

Sundown is the final book in Susan May Warren’s Sky King Ranch series and another one I didn’t get to on my tbr last year (it was a busy second half of 2022 for me).

Like all of Warren’s books, I found plenty of romantic tension, action, and alpha males. But Tae is as intelligent as Colt is the guy who gets it done, which both creates friction between them while also making them perfect for each other. All the loose strings from the previous two books are picked back up and tied together here as well.

But there were also a few things I didn’t love about this book. First, we got a lot of Ranger and Dodge’s points of view which doesn’t allow for readers to get to know Colt like we did his brothers.

And I feel sorry for any new readers who may have picked up this book without reading previous books by this author because she brought so many characters in from previous series (not just this series but at least two others) and tried to connect the dots of how these people were tied together so much it became distracting and confusing for me. I usually enjoy seeing cameos from previous books, but I felt this one was too much too fast. Finally, this storyline felt very COVID-adjacent. If you’re not ready to go there yet, this book may not be for you.

From the shadow of Denali in Alaska, to the bush country of Nigeria, to the marshes of Florida, Susan May Warren concludes her Sky King Ranch series with wild brother, Colt Kingston's story.

Former Delta Force operative, Colt, has returned home - banged up, but alive - from an op in Nigeria where he was held hostage by the Boko Haram. Rescued by his brothers and the operatives of Jones, Inc., it was his diversion that enabled his future sister-in-law to escape captivity, showing their rescuers the way into the camp. Now, back in Alaska, he's just trying to heal up, but something still doesn't feel right. And, if his physical problems aren't enough, his family has taken in a woman they found nearly frozen to death on a glacier. She doesn't speak, but he can tell something is terrifying her. When she is targeted by Russian mercenaries, he and his brothers use their skills to rescue everyone. As she trusts Colt with her story, can he stand between her and the danger that is dogging her steps?

Tae has been trying to stay under the radar ever since she forced the crash of the plane that was spiriting her away to Russia. A scientist by trade, she was responsible for creating a vaccine for an ancient smallpox strain that the Russians were planning to weaponize. Lost in the crash, were her notes on her findings and the samples of the virus burned in the explosion of her lab. Can she start from scratch and recreate her work before Russia deploys its weapon at "the happiest place on earth?"

Wow. These Kingston boys are something else! All three are willing to do whatever they have to in order to guarantee the safety of those they love. Colt comes the closest to dying of any of them and is still willing to pit his battered body and heart against the villain, in order to make sure Tae comes out alive. This book was a very fast read, mostly because the action never stopped. The characters had very few pages of R&R, which made the story race by.

While this can be read as a stand-alone, it is far more satisfying to read it in order with the other books in the series. Start with Sunrise, move to Sunburst, and finish with Sundown. I'm looking forward to Ms. Warren's next series, The Minnesota Marshalls.

Known for her inspirational action-filled novels, Warren writes flawed characters and a captivating storyline. Like her other books, Sunburst has faith journeys, suspense, edge-of-your-seat adventure, and of course, a clean romance (even a Nigerian wedding!). Colt’s story has been slowly unfolding in the second book, setting the stage for the final book, Sundown.

I love this series! Sunburst setup this world and Sundown brought it to a spectacular ending. Tae is a woman on the run but it is just her luck to run into Colt who doesn’t back down from anything. This plot included things like assassins, world domination, pandemic possibilities and romance. Susan May Warren perfects the balance of suspense and tension with romance and lighthearted moments. This is an example of that balance. Definitely worth checking out!

Sundown by Susan May Warren is the thrilling conclusion to the Sky King Ranch series. If you have read the rest of the series I am sure you going to enjoy how the series ends.

This action packed story is full of adventure sprinkled with romance. I loved the growth of Tae and Colt and they way they had to come to terms with their past in order to embrace the future. It was also a great reminder that no matter what God is always there for you.

I loved the glimpses into the lives of the rest of the Kingston family. If you’ve read other Susan May Warren books you would also recognise some of the other well loved characters including Ham, Ford, Scarlett, Orion and more.

You could read this book as a standalone, but I think it would be very confusing as the characters and some aspects of the storyline start in the previous books.

If you love adventure, action and a bit of romance I am sure you are going to love this book. I can’t wait to see what is next from Susan May Warren.

All the loose threads from the overarching plot of the series tie together in this concluding book, as well as provide connections to the individual plots in Sunrise and Sunburst. Tae is on a mission to save the world, and Colt's mission is to save her. The epic plot is full of the adventure, suspense, and thrills of an action movie, while also pulling readers into the emotions, romance, and spiritual growth of our main characters. Colt and Tae are so impulsive that I wanted to smack my head sometimes, but with the support of the other Kingston brothers and a network of friends and colleagues, they stay one step ahead (barely) in their quest to thwart the villains threatening them and the country. I enjoyed the variety of locations in this series and it was so satisfying to have the continuing stories of Colt's brothers woven into this last book.

In Sundown, Susan May Warren concludes the Sky King Ranch series with her characteristic mix of action, family, and faith. I loved the Kingston family. Through this trilogy I watched this family confront difficulties and challenges with growth and courage. In this final book, they face the greatest challenge of all: a bio weapon in the hands of terrorists. As the Kingston family, along with some familiar faces from other books, come together to fight for the future, they just might find healing from the pains of the past. This was a wonderful conclusion to the series that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I’m so glad to have finally gotten Colt’s story! This was the perfect ending to this series, and such a page turner! Tae and Colt were perfect for each other and each had an amazing story to tell. Once again, Susan May Warren has written a masterful story that will keep you wanting more.

This was such an amazing book and series! I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the Kingston Brothers in this Sky King Ranch series of three. This series is a keeper for my bookshelf to be read again and again!

This book primarily focuses on Colt and Tae, but of course included the other Kingston brothers and previous characters from the other books. This Christian fiction had lots of action, drama, and some clean romance that kept my interest from beginning to end. Bio chemical warfare, assassins, and danger at every turn-once you start reading, you won’t want to stop! I enjoyed seeing the three brothers evolve in their relationships, forgiveness towards each other, allowing love into their lives, and realizing they aren’t invincible.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND-I truly can’t say enough great things about this book and series! I have been reading books by this author for many years and she has never disappointed me!

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

Colt and Tae (Taylor) finish this action filled trilogy. True to the label “action filled,” the story begins with adventure that sets the tone for the entire book. Colt is better, Tae is ready to move forward. I love the way the author writes this character. As with Warren’s other stories, Faith plays a significant element in the story.

“Colt wasn’t so sure he wanted back in the family fold. He was just too prone to screwing it all up. To doing something that could get people he cared about killed. It was easier to live without strings or attachments. Then he couldn’t take anyone with him when he went down.”
This series has been epic- the writing has kept me on the edge of my seat, and I care about this family so much, full of heroes who struggle to see past their grief, hurts and mistakes. The finale is amazingly well written, bringing together all three brothers, for an amazing conclusion. If you are a fan of romantic suspense I can’t recommend this author and this series enough!

Sundown is the third and final Sky King Ranch story and a really good conclusion. Even though not everything was 100% believable to me, I still found the storyline thrilling and it was a fast-paced read.

I loved the characters. After getting to know them in all three books, it's sad that this is their final one. I'm hopeful that Warren will have the brothers make appearances in future stories. :)

All in all, Sundown was a good story and one that I found worth the read. I'm looking forward to seeing what Warren writes next.
