Definitely want to start cooking more seasonally, better for me, my wallet, and the environment. Offers base recipes and different seasons and abilities to swap for what is available. Good not just for recipes, but also learning to cook more seasonally.

If I could give this cookbook more than 5 stars I'd do it. I loved reading this cookbook. The way it's organized makes it so easy and fun to read. The recipes are organized by season and they are very flexible, however the author gives you specific recipes to follow. This is the best of both worlds, in my opinion. It does have some recipes with meat, but it's very vegetable-centric. If you're interesting in seasonal eating, are a member of a CSA, vegan or vegetarian this cookbook is for you. If you eat meat with every meal and like vegetable sides this cookbook is also for you. It's simply fantastic!

Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle books for an Advanced Reader Copy.

This is a great cookbook full of fresh recipes. I really liked how every dish had a variation for each season!

So my first impression was that this is how every cookbook should be formatted and organized. Then the thought immediately after that was how actually, this format probably only really works for a cookbook like this. I think a lot of my immediate impressions were overwhelmingly positive because this is a cookbook that works extremely well for a specific kind of cook, and I am adjacent enough to that sort of cook that it worked for me, but I can see where others are going to have problems.

Firstly, though, I loved the color coding of the seasons, I loved the base recipes and the way this cookbook encourages intuitive cooking versus necessarily following a strict recipe, I loved how for each base recipe there were at least one or two of the seasonal variations I wanted to try, and I loved that all the recipes came with gorgeous photos. I will say that even if you're not an adventurous eater, there's still likely a decent amount in this book you'll enjoy, but if you're picky, probably not so much.

I try to cook seasonally anyway, don't have any dietary restrictions, live in a very agriculturally diverse area, and enjoy cooking to varying degrees of complexity. All of this made this a reasonably accessible cookbook for me, but I also needed all of those factors for it to be that accessible. Our farmers market is HUGE, and finding these ingredients wouldn't be super difficult in their appropriate seasons. But if you're a busy cook for a larger family or group of people with particular tastes, it might be a little trickier.

Most of these can be adapted based on taste and flavor preferences, but dietary restrictions are going to be tough to sub for a lot of these without some serious deviation. If you're up for the challenge, the seasonal adaptations are varied and exciting and I think it could be worth it to make some of these dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan, etc. whatever you need or prefer.

I'd say these recipes are more of a weekend treat type of thing, or maybe a cooking project with a partner or buddy chef. A little too involved for a Tuesday evening but perfect for when you have a little more time to commit to cooking and want something slightly nicer than your weeknight fare, but don't want to spend all day in the kitchen. All in all, I really enjoyed this one!

Beautifully done. Great inspiration for seasonal produce use. Recipes sound delicious and seem relatively easy.

Loved all the dishes in this book and can’t wait to try the ones I haven’t had the chance to yet will be using these recipes all throughout the year!

This is one of the more unusually formatted cookbooks I’ve read. The author takes common recipes such as panzanella and salads and presents them in multiple formats based on the season. Rather than separate seasonal sections, the recipe is the method of organization.

It took me a little bit of time to fully understand and appreciate the arrangement, but as I read through the book, I realized what a brilliant move it is to arrange recipes in this way.

I wouldn't recommend this for an inexperienced cook, but someone who is flexing their cooking muscles a bit will certainly appreciate the opportunity for creative interpretation of the recipes.

There's a lot to love about this seasonal cookbook if you're the target audience. I love the format of taking a basic recipe -- frittatas, ravioli, slaw, spaghetti and meatballs, loaf cake, pancakes and toppings, veggie burgers, etc. -- and then providing a basic recipe and then four seasonal versions. There are also grids that tell you the best main components and mix-ins for each base recipe in each season. For instance, the loaf cake in summer might use zucchini as the base and pumpkin as the base in the fall, with berries stirred in during the summer and nuts in the fall.

The reasons the book didn't really work for me:

1. Most of my family is gluten free and some are dairy free and keto. This is a very traditional cookbook with no variations for those who are on special diets. It will require a lot of modifications for people who are vegan, gluten free, paleo, keto, etc. You can use the basic idea of the recipes, but most of us can do that anyway.

2. It's a little on the high maintenance, bougie side for me. These aren't quick weeknight recipes for the most part.

3. I appreciate the artistic value of the photos, but I really hated the aesthetic. They remind me of 1970's kitchens -- all muted colors and shades of brown. Seasonal food is so vibrant and beautiful, but the filters on these photos just made them seem unappetizing to me. This is just a personal thing but I didn't actually view any of the photos of the recipes as tasty because of the muddy colors.

All that said, it's a wonderful book for other people and I'm sure it will be very well received. Three stars for me, for liked it.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

Absolutely adore this cookbook. I'm all about purchasing seasonal foods and so this is the perfect cookbook to help you cookbooks through the 4 seasons. The photography was eye-catching and totally makes you want to try a lot of the recipes. I've already noted a few and a plan to try soon.

Definitely a book to add to the collection.

As somebody who has really switched over to a more seasonal approach to cooking, I really loved the concept of this book! There are ~25 "base" recipes, each with four seasonal variations that cover a broad range of flavors. I really loved the variety and unique flavor pairings--while I already have recipes for and make a lot of the base dishes, such as pasta/frittatas/sandwiches, many of the variations here were quite unique. I bookmarked a TON of recipes, and I am looking forward to making some of the Spring/Summer variations in the next few months! I really loved that every recipe had at least one photo, and I also thought it was super cool that, in addition to the base recipe + seasonal variations, each recipe has a grid at the start with other various season swaps you could make and how to cook them, to give the reader other ideas on how to customize. Tons of vegetarian recipes (I'd say nearly all of them were veggie) with several vegan/gluten-free options as well, or at least quite easy ways to make the recipes so with some easy swaps/omissions. Good mix of breakfast/meal/sides/desserts, and truly this was a really lovely and exciting cookbook.

A Dish for All Seasons is a cookbook that has me already planning out dishes based on fruit and vegetables that are within season and their growing patterns, as well as what would look and taste great in the Fall versus the Summer.

The cover artwork and photography is clean, showcases food in natural and bright colors and tells the reader exactly what they are going to read and dive into.

Right away, we learn the author, Pauline's motivation for writing this book and her backstory. Between the neutral color palette for the theming, the well produced and edited photography, and the way the recipes are easy to understand and straight to the point, this is definitely a cookbook that many can use and enjoy.

Recipes such as Winter Waffles that include Tahini Cream (who would have thought to try that - delicious), different Bean Salads, Quesadillas and more. The beautiful thing about the way these recipes are laid out is that there are different "grids" for each type of recipe and then a break down of it for each season which is brilliant and for someone who likes to plan, this is a great way to start. It makes locating each seasonal item a breeze. We'll be adapting this technique into our own recipe generation for our home.

5 Stars. Would recommend and will be adding a copy to our home collection. Don't even get me started on the Upside Down Cakes as they look absolutely divine. I've already laid out the ingredients to the Summer Cake to make this coming week.

Now, I'm off to create an Upside Down Cake that will make me feel like we've got everything going Rightside Up.

Thanks to the publisher, Chronicle Books, the author and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC copy to read and review. Review will also be posted to my blog (www.kagoodsell.com/book-reviews), GoodReads, TikTok (@unearthingeco), as well as NetGalley reviews.

What an absolute delight! This is a wonderful fresh take on season-based cookbooks. I love the organization based upon general recipes followed up with several seasonal variations based heavily upon available produce. Equally appreciated, if not more so, is the fact that besides the specific variations that Pauline provides, each standard recipe comes with a “grid” of other seasonal ingredients one could swap or add in, allowing for a lot more potential variation and experimentation with just a little bit of helpful guidance.

Not only is “A Dish for All Seasons” a wonderfully handy book that can spark plenty of creativity, I definitely consider it worthy of a sequel. As plentiful as the recipes here are, there are plenty of other base dishes that I would love to see get the same treatment.

A Dish for All Seasons is a wonderful tool for learning how to create on-the-fly based on what is available in season. This book is inspired by those who have mastered going to the farmer’s market to “see what looked good” and not be limited by the current selection. There are 25 adaptable basic recipes with many options and organized by the four-season variations. I love how all the colors pop on each page from the photos. There are helpful guides all the way through as well as great bonus tips scattered in here and there. Chapters are organized by breakfast, salads, appetizers and sides, mains, and sweets. I personally love the creativity and guides to personalize your own dishes. It is organized well and written in an easy to understand/follow format.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a great cook book!

While there isn't a ton of recipes in this book, there's a lot of helpful information for cooking. The book focuses on fun staple recipes - frittatas, salads, pastas, etc. and has a recipe for each by season. There's beautiful pictures of the recipes based on season at the start of each chapter. The book has the base recipe and then different toppings, fillings, etc. by each season. There's a fun mix of breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and desserts throughout the book.

A great find that can help you eat more seasonably.
