This was a great story set in the beautiful and rugged section of Texas near Big Bend National Park. Ava Burch is a newcomer to this area. She was raised in East Texas and was a corporate attorney in Houston. At the urging of a friend and colleague, she moves to Cuervo and sets up a law firm with her friend. They are the only lawyers in this very small town. Recently, Ava's father passed away and she inherited his Search and Rescue dog, Huck. Ava and Huck volunteer for rescue missions in the area. The story begins with a search for a child that has wandered from the family campsite in Silver Canyon State Park. Ava and Huck have joined the search mission. They come across an abandoned campsite, one that appears to have been there awhile. Ava takes several pictures before continuing on the search in which they successfully find the child. After returning to the starting point, Ava relays her findings of the campsite to the county sheriff who is not interested but one of his detectives, Grant Wycoff has questions. Two years before, a woman went missing and she might have been camping in the state park. The next day, Grant and Ava attempt to find the campsite only to find it is gone. But Huck finds a gravesite that turns out to be the missing woman. Ava is very curious about the missing woman, and it appears there were two other missing women in the last three years, but the sheriff's department is reluctant to admit a pattern. Grant has investigated but to no resolution. Ava asks questions and interviews folks familiar with the women which both irritates and attracts Grant. Ava's curiosity also attracts threatening activity against her and Huck. It's a struggle for Grant to investigate the disappearances and to keep Ava safe. I really enjoyed this story by Laura Griffin.

I love Ms. Griffin, and this book was just amazing. I could not put it down.
When a search and rescue is put together to missing little boy, and he’s is found by Lawyer Ava Burch and her dog Huck it leads to more. It opens to a cold case in Texas. When she gives some evidence to the police it’s a wait and see until Detective Grant Wycoff comes to see her about the evidence she found. What they come across is not right. Something doesn’t make sense.
Now she won’t rest until she figures out what happened.

Laura Griffin does it again. I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of Griffin’s newest novel and it did not disappoint. She has a clear writing style and a tried-and-true equation for writing romantic murder mystery. As always, her empowered female protagonist had layers of emotional turmoil to dig through while also uncovering a deep secret in a new town. And for added interest and spice, a smoking hot, yet somewhat emotionally unavailable man for her to do a push and pull with. Overall, this book was hard for me to put down and a real joy to read. Highly recommend as a sultry summer beach read if you like a little mystery in your spicy romance novels!

Laura Griffin has done it again with Vanishing Hour! A tightly woven mystery and leading characters that are complex and "human'" with lots of layers. It's the unpeeling of these layers that will have you rooting for these characters!
Three women go missing within three years....one is found dead of an apparent accident but when the body of the second woman is found by the newest member of the local search and rescue group and her dog, then all bets are off as the local detective and the "new girl" search for answers to what really happened.
Laura Griffin's writing style and her descriptive passages of the beauty and the harshness of the West Texas landscape will have you feeling like you are right in the middle of it all.
Thank you Laura for another edge-of-the-seat, page turning, read.
