Women kicking ass and taking names, my favorite kind of book! Added in the historical fiction part and I loved this book! I also really loved the friendship between Justine & Georgette! I want to read more about Justine and her friends doing more spy-like actions! I will definitely be adding all of Mary Anna Evans' books to my TBR!

I love Historical Fiction, and have been reading this genre for so many years, and love that I always learn something, while also discovering a strong female at the center of the story usually.

THE PHYSICIST'S DAUGHTER takes place during WWII, as a factory in the US is working in secret for the war, and not even the factory worker know what is being produced. The storyline really kept me engaged, and I thought the pacing of the story was done well.

I listened to the audiobook format, which was narrated by Kimberly M. Wetherell

*many thanks to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for the gifted copy for review

This story was really good. A great listen. During this time in womens' lives life was so unfair to them.
However, a great read. I would highly recommend it.

The Physicist's Daughter by Mary Anna Evans is an intriguing novel of suspense and espionage. Justine lost her parents right before the attack on Pearl Harbor. She goes to work in a factory building boats and ships for the war effort. She is able to weld and do much more than most give her credit for, since she is a woman. As she is called on to fix what appears to be just small problems with the equipment, she realizes that someone is tampering with it and trying to cause problems for the company. Using her intelligence and relying on her godmother Gloria, she tries to discover who is hurting the company. Along the way, she will make friends and possibly find romance. I really enjoyed the story. There were some parts, especially when physics came up, that I felt a bit out of my element, but the author was usually able to keep me on the same page and understanding. There were several laugh out loud moments and the book kept you guessing right until the end. I especially enjoyed the narrator. She did an excellent job.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and offer my honest opinion.

Thank you NetGalley and Hatchett Audio for allowing me to have an advanced copy of this audiobook in return for an honest review.

What I Liked:
1. The Setting - New Orleans is one of my favorite places to visit and it was easy to imagine the setting
2. The Premise - Highly intelligent female is under-estimated by the people around her and must overcome obstacles to prove her worth
3. Espionage - the different POV allowed you to try to determine who the intelligence officer was

What I Didn't Like:
1. It took over 50% of the book to get to the problem that had to be solved
2. The constant self-doubt that all the female characters displayed, but none of the males were able to show any self-reflection.

I have to say this was a good book but it wasn’t the right time for me to read it. The writing was good, but I found it kinda boring. I listened on audiobook and was easily distracted, especially in the beginning. The female characters were pretty badass, and I appreciated how the parents saw the importance of educating their daughter. I usually love historical fiction, but I think I may have enjoyed this more at a different time.

This was a great example of a strong female lead updating historical fiction. It was nice that this included her trade skill of welding. The narration felt a bit young for the character but maybe because I feel like she would have been very mature for her age.

I really enjoyed this story! It was quite compelling and presented an interesting spin on WW2 era historical fiction. At times I found it to be a bit derivative but it was overall enjoyable and pleasurable to read. My only main qualm was the narrator; I found her accents to be a bit distracting.

I always enjoy historical fiction and I certainly enjoyed this book.
The story was informative and the main character had a certain flair. I enjoyed her quirkiness and the feminist aspects of her character. She certainly was not going to be pushed aside and ignored when she came across the mysterious and illegal goings-on.
World War II fascinates me and even when I think, all aspects of its have been delved into again and again, a book like this comes along and does justice to adding to the collection. Exciting and rapid story pace keeps you guessing and glued to the book!

“The Physicists’ Daughter” is a gripping story about World War II. Justine Byrne works at a Higgins Factory in New Orleans in the carbon division. Strange things start happening and Justin’s suspects that someone is sabotaging the plant! I enjoyed the relationship with Justine and her friends, including a love triangle.
I was guessing until the end to find out who the saboteur was. I liked how the story planned out. The author did an amazing job with her research. I know more about physics than I will ever need to know.
I listen to the story in my car. The narrator was okay- some of the accents were a little over the top for me. I want to thank the author, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

This was a fascinating book. I've read so many books set in World War II, and pretty much all of them take place in Europe. I loved seeing how America was affected by the war, and getting a glimpse into the roles that women got to step into because all of the able-bodied men were overseas. Justine's story also gave us a glimpse into the history of physics and how - before the war - there was a spirit of international collaboration that went away once the war broke out.

On to the actual story, I loved that there are two spies that we see at work, and I loved the plot twist. I had no idea how it was going to end, and that's always a fun experience. Justine was an interesting protagonist, and I think she was both relatable and unique. I also really appreciated that there was a romance, but it was a fairly minor side plot instead of the driving motivator for the main plot.

My only teeny-tiny complaint is that I feel like the book could have been a bit more captivating. It felt rather evenly paced, and so even though it was enjoyable to read, I could also put it down fairly easily. With all of the mystery and intrigue in the book, this was a bit surprising.

Overall it was a lovely read, and perfect for anyone who enjoys stories set in World War II.

Justine is the daughter of two physicists. But their death and WWII has changed her course in life. She is now working in a factory. She is building some kind of radio parts for the war. But, she knows there is something strange going on. She thinks someone is trying to sabotage their work and she is on the hunt to find out who and why!

Justine is one smart cookie! But, being a woman, she knows her choices are limited. But, this does not stop her from getting herself in a tough situation. She is determined to save her friends and everyone around her.

I fluctuated between 3 and 4 stars on this read. I settled on 4. Basically because I enjoyed the strong women in this book. But the story is a bit contrived and a bit far fetched in places. However, like I said, the women keep this story moving! Plus, I enjoyed the science in this book. And there is a good bit of it.

The narrator, Kimberly M. Wetherell did a very good job, especially with all the different voices. Now, I did think her New Orleans accent needs a bit of work…but what do I know.

Need a good WWII espionage story…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today!

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

The more I listen/read historical fiction/mysteries, the more I fall in love with them. It was amazing hearing about women who worked these crazy jobs during the war, while integrating a fun conspiracy mystery. I would recommend this book like crazy, way better than I was expecting .

Battles fought on the home front by woman during World War II
Pre-World War II, a time when most woman main achievement was to be a good wife and mother, I do not underestimate the value of that, mostly showing that the choices were limited. We see a girl been groomed by her parents to be following in their footsteps. The loss of parents in an accident brings an end to those plans and the possibility of her attending college. 1944 Justine sees her way clear to help the war effort by becoming a factory worker. Limited by been a woman and treaded by the male employees as not been as capable as the male counterparts she is determined to prove them wrong. Add to the story sabotage and spies. Who can she trust and how can she stop it from happening? All this combined makes a great story showing not only the struggles woman faced but also that the war was not always fought on the battlefields.
Narrator Kimberly Wetherell has a pleasant easy to listen to voice which made it even more enjoyable.

I love historical fiction, so this was an easy selection for me after reading the summary. I enjoyed the perspective of WWII from the US Homefront in New Orleans. I loved Justine's inquisitiveness and her skillset - welding and mechanics. Suspense revolving around spies and saboteurs.
