Justine was taught how to weld by her father at a young age. At present she's working in the top-secret Carbon room at a factory in New Orleans making parts for the US Govt when strange things start happening. Justine thinks someone is sabotaging the equipment that could cause injury to the workers and have faulty equipment sent to soldiers fighting to keep us safe. One person who can repair this equipment is Justine, although she doesn't get paid welder's pay. She is proud though to do her share in the war effort and takes pride in her skills that were much needed.

Mary Anna Evans has given us a well-researched meaty thriller that gave me both a few history lessons and science lessons as well. Evans did her homework on this one making it a great read.

Narration by Kimberly M Wetherell was excellent, allowing me to experience all the emotions and moods of the characters. She kept the book flowing smoothly and I was able to tell when different characters spoke as well as chapter changes.

My thanks to #NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC and this opinion is my own.

During the height of World War II, factory worker Justine Byrne seems to spend all her time at her New Orleans factory welding pieces of machinery back on after they keep falling off. She’s not even sure exactly what the factory produces, but it seems to be vital to the allies. Could there be a German sympathizer hiding among the workers? Trusting no one, Justine uses her analytical mind to try to uncover the truth and keep her factory, and her country, safe. This is an interesting change for Evans, who has long written her Faye Longchamp archaeological mysteries, but it’s a pleasant and entertaining surprise
