This book was ok. There is a lot going on in the plot but not much romance. I was glad that this was a novella. I am not sure I would have finished it if it was longer.

Novella as it is, I didn't connect to this writing of Jenn's as much as I had the others she's created. It was a cute, short story, but it felt rushed, which I will blame on the short story idea. the characters were fun, but didn't get enough exploration, if you will, into their reasonings for their decisions. However, I really enjoyed the last half of the story over the first half.

The plot had some unpredictable twists and turns. I am all for happy endings, but I couldn’t help but be a bit disappointed with the anticlimactic turns of events at the end. Overall, a clever short story that packed a punch and had a little bit of everything.

The Attraction Distraction by Jenn McKinlay is a fun contemporary romance novella. It's a great escape from reality thanks to the setting (an uninhabited island in the Aegean Sea) and plot (a group of academic scholars use any means necessary to win the hunt for a rare artifact). The action is over-the-top which was great for 120 pages/3 hours but would have been too much for a full-length book.

Thanks to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for access to the audiobook narrated by Sara Young.

A very cute short romcom! It was almost too short to be believable. Second chance romance and a treasure hunt! The audiobook was great! Perfect for people who don’t have a lot of time to read, but love romance! Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the opportunity to read in exchange for a review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this complimentary audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion.

Such a fun summer rom com! Or should I say a mystery rom com. Throwing in an element of mystery was such a fun idea. This has Indiana Jones vibes which was definitely different but in a good way. It’s got a typical rom com storyline with enemies to lovers and second chances. With a fun setting in Greece.

Great writing and great characters! It’s fast paced and short. At 2X speed it took me a little over 3 hours to finish. Definitely a perfect read for summer.

There was not anything I found interesting about this story. The pacing, including narration, was not smooth.

Summer is the time for vacations and beaches, for sunshine and adventures, and for light contemporary romances. And the audio edition of The Attraction Distraction author Jenn McKinlay’s second Museum of Literature romance, offers a little bit of the best things about summer, all wrapped up in one short book.

I was looking for a fun story to listen to while working on a crochet project, so I jumped on this one when I saw that the audiobook was available for review! I love books that feature some kind of travel, and since the synopsis mentioned a "literary discovery" I was very intrigued and excited to dive in. What I got was a melodramatic, far-fetched, ridiculous storyline. The plot is weak and silly, for lack of a better word. The characters had no substance or real personality. I had to look up their names because I couldn't remember either of them. Their past break-up is brought up way too many times. We get it. lol. They broke up! The romance was unconvincing and uninteresting, but it was closed-door and sometimes that's what I'm in the mood for (especially with audiobooks) so I liked that. The "literary discovery" requires the ability to suspend your disbelief and it's so outlandish that the author has to come up with a special twist to cover it all up. The twist is just the ridiculous cherry on top of the ridiculous sundae. There's a bit of suspense, but the kind that makes you roll your eyes. Really, The Attraction Distraction read like a parody of something I can't quite put my finger on and the more I think about it the more annoyed I am I spent the time on it. LOL.

The narration was ok for the most part, except the reader pronounced "parquet" like par-ket, which is wrong. It should be pronounced par-kay. She also said "Mycenaean" like my-seen-ee-un, which is wrong. It's pronounced my-suh-nee-uhn. I'm pretty sure the copy I received through Netgalley was the finished product but if not, I hope both of these mispronunciations were fixed before it hit retailers! Other than that complaint, I felt the narrator did a good job and had a pleasant voice to listen to.

All in all, I'm glad I didn't pay for this and that it was a quick listen (I sped it up so it went faster than the roughly 3 hours it defaults at).

Sara Young did a great job of narrating this novella by Jenn McKinlay. I would definitely read more books narrated by Sara in the future.

This was the first rom-com mystery by Jenn McKinlay that I have read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the smart and sexy characters (Sarah & Liam), the pace, the enemies-to-lovers trope, and the artifact hunt. Looking forward to reading more books in this series in the future.

This was a cute novella. I enjoyed the premise and writing. It’s very Indiana Jones meets a rom-com— in a good way. I would buy this. I could see it being a comfort read for me.

This was surprisingly cute and fun. I’ve enjoyed this authors other books in the past but I’m always on the fence with novellas, but this one was a nice surprise. It didn’t feel too rushed and focused on one event, with perfectly timed conflicts and resolution. Usually I find resolution in novellas to be rushed and unrealistic but there’s really no way to argue with this one!

this was such a fun, quick, hilarious summer read! it was no ordinary romance because it was part action, party mystery, too. this unique mix of genres made this novella and unforgettable one! i listened to the audiobook version of “the attraction distraction” and the narrator did an amazing job with every character’s voices. within a dialogue, i could instantly tell who was speaking because each competitor had their own distinct tone… i especially liked liam’s irish accent. i thought the author and narrator succeeded in bringing this story to life - i had to finish listening to it in a single go!

this novel reminded me of “crush in the cascades” by lisa s. gayle mixed with “the hunger games”. both of these plots incorporated multiple characters in their competitions and in each scenario, i thought i’d have a difficult time remembering everyone’s names but that was not the case (the audiobook definitely made this easier!). i loved sarah and liam’s banter and chemistry! i’m not usually a fan of second-chance romance but the mix of enemies-to-lovers made this one a winner for me!

The narration was fabulous! This was just what I needed. A fun rom com with a little drama. The romance was sweet. Sarah and Liam were great characters. I loved the story. Also what a cute cover! I cannot wait to read more by this author. Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

If you’re looking for a short, fast-paced, second-chance romance… Then this is the book for you.

I’d even go as far as to say that the romance isn’t at all overpowering, but it’s there, it’s palpable and it gives you all the romance vibes.

But more than a romance, it’s an adventure (think Indiana Jones’ style!) and even a mystery, set on the stunning beautiful Greek islands of the Aegean Sea.

The pursuit of an ancient Greek artifact brings together a series of characters, all looking to ‘win the race’ to be the first ones to find it, but not without some ‘accidents’ (or are they?) along the way, and the chance for our main character Sarah to reconnect with her ever sassy ex-boyfriend, the hunky Irishman Liam.

Can they find this mystery artifact and escape with their lives?
Can their love be brought back to life?

Guess you’d better read/listen to find out!

I had a great time listening to this one, and was pulled in both by the characters and by the beautiful setting of the Greek islands as well as the quest our characters get to embark on! (not to mention Greece - and Santorini in particular - have always been a dream destination of mine!)

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for allowing me to listen to this audiobook in exchange for my review and honest opinion.

This is the second novella in the Museum of Literature RomCom series it was just as good as the first one. This is a fantastic second chance love story. Sarah and Liam had a lot of miscommunication in a previous relationship which ended when Sarah got a job that Liam was also after and Liam just left when he got turned down for the position. Years later they are brought together to locate an artifact on an uninhabited island in the Aegean Sea. Let’s just say the trip does not go as planned, but Sarah and Liam find their way back to each other through it all.

The Attraction Distraction is about Sarah and Liam, exs, who are both sent to an island in search of a rare Greek artifact. When mysterious accidents start to happen to the other scholars Sarah and Liam team up to find the artifact and keep each other safe.

The audiobook was short and sweet and I would read more books in this series and/or by this author. For how short this book was and the small amount of time we get to spend with these characters and getting to know them, it really worked for me. It has all of my favorite things; a little bit of Greek mythology, National Treasure vibes, and exs to lovers. Overall I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a short action packed and suspenseful romance read this summer.

I received a copy of this audiobook from NetGalley and Dreamscape Media.

3.5/5 (rounded down) - #2 of the A Museum of Literature Romances; Listened to Audiobook, via eARC access.

This is a novella (short 3 hr, >100 pg.) book, where there's a second-chance romance, with a treasure hunting plot, creating a thriller nature. It was cute, but with its short length, I just didn't find myself getting as invested in this relationship as, say, book #1. The narrator did a great job with both characters' voices, especially since Liam is irish. Interested to see if the series continues!

Spice: 0.5/5 - kiss with a fade to black scene

Brief Plot:Sarah Novak loves Greek history, so when her job sends her to a Greek island to help search for the arrow that proves Achilles was real, she is ecstatic. That is, until she finds out her ex that up and ghosted her is also on the trip. As the other members of the search start getting mysteriously injured, she must decide if she is willing to partner up with Liam for protection, and whether that shared space leads to sparks flying.

Thank you NetGalley, and Dreamscape Media, for an eARC Audiobook copy of the Attraction Distraction, by Jenn McKinlay, narrated by Sara Young. This is my honest review!

Sarah Novak is sent on a mysterious adventure to find an artifact that would prove the Trojan war actually happened. Nine other scholars have been invited on the hunt and one of them happens to be her ex Liam, who up and left her when she was offered the job they were both after.
When accidents start taking the scholars out one by one Sarah has no choice but to team up with Liam.
A forced proximity, second chance novella.

Despite there being a villain terrorizing the scholars, nothing much happens.
I don't think this is a book I will remember reading
