Thank you to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for sending me an early copy of this audiobook! All opinions are my own!

Who doesn't love adventure in the depths of ancient Greek ruins?? This book promised that kind of adventure, and it definitely delivered on it! I loved the Greek mythology that was woven into the story and thought that it was really well done. There was just enough for mythology lovers to be content while still having the modern romance. It felt like there was a perfect blend of nerdiness with adventure and romance, and those are all of my favorite things.

At one point I found myself wishing for a bigger plot twist to happen, and then it did! And it was everything I wanted and more. The mystery of this book was really well done, and I adored the way it kept me on my toes. I devoured this all in one sitting, and I regret nothing!

If you're a Greek mythology fan who wants a little romcom in their lives, definitely make sure you check this book out!

The Attraction Distraction by Jenn McKinlay

Sara Norvak is a classics scholar who gets an opportunity to go to the Aegean Sea to look for an ancient Greek artifact for her job. Liam Mcguire is Sara's ex boyfriend who also gets an invitation to find the Greek artifact. The two have not seen each other for 7 years. This is a short novella story that is packed with a quest to find this artifact with a touch of romance.

This was a cute story and I really enjoyed the search for the artifact all these scholars are looking for the artifact but some do not make it through to find it. It is a tame version of the hungers game sort of but some of them get hurt.

Even though this is a short novella it was really entertaining it had a decent story and it kept the everything moving with so much action happening at times in the book with weather events and one scholar is very dangerous.

The narrator did a fantastic job bringing out the characters voices especially Liam's Irish voice. Over all the story was really good and I enjoyed the book this is the first time I read something from this author and cannot wait to read something else in the future. Sometimes with novellas they leave you wanting more this was a nice neat story that felt complete to me. The romance though was not as spicy as it could have been.

Thank You to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for a free audiobook for an honest review. This was a 4.5 star read for me.

Sarah Loves her work. She is all about literature. The classics make her heart sing. When an opportunity to go on an adventure/race to find long lost treasures on a Greek Island she is all in (though really had little choice in the matter). Only when she gets onto the airplane she finds Liam, the worst person in her world. The man she loved with her whole heart and being and believed would be spending the rest of her life with. The man who walked out of her life, with nary a word after she got the job they both applied for after having discussed that they’d support each other and be happy no matter who won. And so the adventure begins with Sarah wanting to find an active volcano and push him in. As the group begins the search for treasures, mysterious no so accidental accidents start happening that take out other adventurers one by one and she is forced into an alliance with Liam. It’s a hate to love, mystery that is a fun ride. Liam’s a seemingly good, sexy man who seems to want Sarah back in his life. I enjoyed it except for the one glaring issue that I found difficult to not think about. Liam was manipulative Sarah from page one. He left Sarah because he didn’t get the job he so wanted and needed (you need to read to find them out) and then came back for the job. She wasn’t the love of his life, she was more of a a convenience. Would he have returned if not for the work opportunity? He stayed away for many years and though there is what seems to be an adorable HEA, I am left wondering what happens if Liam loses his job or a better opportunity comes along. I liked Sarah, but didn’t think all that much of Liam.

What a fun adventure! I loved the chase through the Greek Isles to find a priceless artifact. Sarah and Liam are so sweet and I enjoyed following them as they found love again. I think it could have been longer but the story was well told and the quest for the artifact added some excitement to my day.

Audio was well done, no issues

This novella by Jenn McKinlay was such a fun read! This is the second novella in the Museum of Literature series. I really enjoyed escaping to an island in the Aegean Sea with Sarah Novak, who was sent to look for a mysterious artifact. What she doesn't expect to find is her ex boyfriend, Liam. This was a short listen and would be the perfect book to pick up when you need a fun, quick story that will leave you taking a journey! As with all novellas, I wish this was longer, but that's just the nature of them!

This was a fun story and I liked that there was no 3rd act break up.

Some of the dialogue was confusing and I think that was due to the narrator. Some of the voices they used for different characters were so similar so it was confusing at times.

I'm typically not a big fan of audiobooks but I was tempted to listen to The Attraction Distraction based on the synopsis. Two academics, second-chance love, enemies to lovers, and a sprinkle of mystery and adventure? Yes, please!

The Attraction Distraction is a short and sweet novella perfect for the summertime. Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the advanced copy of the audiobook. All opinions are my own.

The Attraction Distraction is a light, quick read that transports the reader to a whirlwind last minute excursion for two historians (who happen to be exes) as they join their colleagues on the adventure of a lifetime - a chance to discover a piece of ancient history that may be more real than mythological. This novella was a fast and entertaining read. I enjoyed being able to listen to this on audio because the narrator does a fantastic job with Liam’s delightful Irish lilt. The accent was fun to listen and made the story more enjoyable and transformative. The expedition goes from tense, to exciting, to swoony, to life threatening as our main characters race against time to discover something from history that no one ever has before.

Read this if you enjoy:

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the audiobook, all thoughts are my own.

This audiobook was not my favorite. I went into it hoping to love it, but I just didn't.

The biggest misses for me:
- The narrator. I think part of it was that she sounded to young to fit how I saw the character. It seemed like the character was in a fairly well established position and had a fair amount of experience in her field, and this just didn't fit with a narrator that sounded like they were too young to have done all of that. On top of that, the accents were not great, particularly the Chicago accent, and there were a few mispronounced words.
- The romance. The romance just seemed a little childish. There really didn't feel like much to rekindle, as their breakup originally seemed like it didn't fit the characters. It is a little hard to explain, but something just felt off.
-I know this was a short novella, and I didn't dislike the story for being short, but I did feel like some of the plot points didn't quite make sense with what I knew of the characters at that point. I felt a little like I had missed something, and even in a short story, there should be enough to keep everything together.

What I did like:
- I did like the museum side characters from the beginning of the book. They were interesting and almost felt a little supernatural, which was a fun trait.
- I didn't dislike the writing for the most part. I had a few issues with the story, but nothing hugely terrible.

I think all in all I would have enjoyed this more reading it than listening to it. The narrator definitely took away from the story in my opinion. I did like the premise and I think with a little more information within the story to keep the plot fleshed out and on track and a different narrator (or a print version), I would like this story more.

What a great quick read!

treasure hunting type movies the lost city, national treasure etc this has that feel.

Loved the whole idea behind the book and I definitely need more books like this.

The main characters were like able, had banter and that twist at the end. 🤯

Slow burn 1/5 🔥. Would have liked alittle more spice 😁.

The narrators voice was alittle annoying (nasally) at first I got used to it and enjoyed it.

I listened on 1.25x.

There was a long pause in between chapters was not sure if it was the Netgalley app or it needs to be fixed.

Ok so I originally requested this one because of the authors name, I have read a few of her cozy mystery books and loved them! Then when I went and downloaded it I noticed it said it was just over 3 hours long and that it was second in a series. So I quickly looked into it and found out it’s a novella series which is absolutely perfect. I love having shorter reads spread through my tbr. With that said I enjoyed this quick listen, I loved the second chance romance as well as force proximity! The quest is always fun in books and I though the setting was perfect. I’m excited to go back and listen to the first in the series!

Buckle up for a terrific adventure! Full of twists and reminiscent of Indiana Jones, this story is so much fun. I loved the setting, the history, and the direct references to Greek Mythology.
It’s a great audio; I finished in only a few hours. Check it out!

This book was a very quick, very fun listen. A cute second chance romance with humor and heart. Two exes have to compete to find a rare artifact and rekindle their love in the process. Sarah and Liam have a hot attraction and fun banter. This book was well written with great conflict to keep me engaged in the story the entire time. It’s my first book by this author and won’t be my last. I really enjoyed the narrator too! She did a great job!

This was so good! Why was it a novella and not a full length!! I want more from these characters and hope that the author plans to revisit them for a full novel.

I received an advanced copy. All thoughts are my own.

This was a bit of a miss for me. It was quite boring and lacklustre. I struggled through it until the bitter end.

This is my first Audio book in years and let me just say how refreshing it was. The narrator was amazing and really did a great job at setting the scene and doing different voices for characters as I would have in my head.

This book had me going from the start. I love every twist and turn it had to offer. I could stop and needed to know what was going to happen next. I would love to hear more about these characters and what adventure they may go on next. I loved the discussion about artifacts and Greek gods it really peeked my interest.

I would highly suggest picking up this as your next Read!

This is a fun second installment in the museum of literature series and a quick listen on audio. Both a second chance romance and adventure romance, it goes by fast! I enjoyed it. Thank you Dreamscape Media for the advance copy audio via Netgalley.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version. Yeah I can see why the stars are low on this book. I gave it the benefit of the doubt. But it was a hard pass for me. I know it is considered a short story and I didn't have an issue with that. I just thought the story was very very unrealistic and cheesey.

A quick, fun read. I really enjoyed this one! It was so fun and the added adventure/mystery really added to the story. With shorter romances, I usually have a hard time being convinced that the two main characters are in love, but Jenn McKinlay was able to pull it off with The Attraction Distraction. I also really enjoyed the audio version of this.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape for the audio ARC!
