This book started off well and it reminded me a little of other stories I have read recently. However, I soon grew frustrated by the protagonist and her family, and I wasn’t too convinced by her romantic life, either.
Steph is brutally dumped on New Year’s Eve. Her childhood sweetheart has called time on their years-long relationship and, naturally, Steph is heartbroken. But, not heartbroken enough, it would seem. When she bumps into handsome Jamie during their New Year’s Eve celebrations, Steph cannot stop her heart from swooning in delight and this marks the start of a relationship that Steph feels is, this time, “the one”.
Yet, I was never convinced that this was true love for Steph. After all, having been with Connor since school, how can she so quickly move on? In my opinion, Jamie was more of a rebound infatuation, and this is proven when they part ways. Jamie and Steph did not swap contact details and Steph goes on an elaborate plan to try and get in touch with him again – with scant information on this new love. At first I found this entertaining, but I couldn’t believe that Steph could feel so deeply about a man she had spent mere hours with – even if the writer explains more about why her dumping was pretty much inevitable.
Not only that, I found Steph’s relationship with her family to be incredibly irritating. They are all a bunch of snobs and dislike Steph’s career as a charity worker – believing it does not bring in enough money and is not a serious job. Furthermore, they all pass judgement on her romantic life and I could not stand how critical and jarring they became. Readers are presented with texts from the family’s WhatsApp group and I felt it was more immature sniping that felt like school playground behaviour, rather than something between adults. In my opinion, Kaye takes the family snobbery stereotype too far, in the sense that it feels old-fashioned and out of touch.
On the other hand, I appreciated the writer drawing attention to the plight of vulnerable young people and homelessness. I thought this added a welcome depth to the novel and I could understand Steph’s passion for her job. This element was surprisingly interwoven into the main narrative in a plot twist that I had not expected, drawing more attention to it. Yet, despite Steph working to help others, her family still don’t get the charitable nature to her work!
I loved the Edinburgh setting and the first half of the novel. However, as the story developed, I found I cooled towards the protagonist and felt she made silly decisions. The people around her are not the most positive of influences which did not help with my overall enjoyment of the story. It’s an ok read for a romance story, but not one that will stay with me for very long.
With thanks to Canelo and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Apologies for the lateness of the review!
I am maybe a bit biased as a Scottish person but I LOVED this book so much and found it incredibly entertaining and cosy. It kept me interested and engaged and I had the best time reading it!

One Night in Edinburgh by Nina Kaye is a delightful read perfect for lighthearted romance enthusiasts seeking a humorous and uplifting tale of second chances, love, and self-discovery, set against the charming backdrop of Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations.

I really wanted to enjoy this book... but it just wasn't for me. It was very much a closed door romance and I generally have trouble getting into them, there is a time and place for closed door romances but I needed a bit more spice in this book. I did not connect very well with the characters, especially Steph. However, I did appreciate the variety in the characters and how they were written. I think this book would be good for some but it just wasn't for me! Although, I absolutely loved the setting! Thanks to Canelo Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC!

Thought the concept of this sounded cute but once I actually started reading it I wasn’t sure how I felt about the fact this budding romance started quite literally immediately after she just ended her previous relationship.

This book was a really easy read, I read it over a short period of time. I found the concept interesting, and enjoyed the way that they reconnected through the beer label.
The book did feel a little easy with everything tied up neatly at the end, which I don't think was absolutely necessary.
I would pick up another book by the author in the future as I did enjoy the writing style, it was the right sort of book to pick up in between heavier books.

Cute book. Predictable, easy read. Nothing to write home about but a good story none the less. Would consider more from this author.

New Year celebrations in Scotland sound amazing! What a fun evening with Jamie and Steph. This was a cheeky and fun romance however I'm not sure how believable it is that Steph and her boyfriend could break up so easily and go straight into being friends and still living together whilst she pursued someone else. Awkward! But, her new relationship with Jamie was kinda sweet and I was definitely rooting for them both. Thank you for the opportunity to read this.

Funny, moving and incredibly romantic. One Night in Edinburgh is a poignant page-turner that will steal your heart. I absolutely loved the twists in this book, it was an original story that kept me guessing and was so incredibly enjoyable to read!

I just didn't connect with either of the leads or the story unfortunately. I liked some of the ideas, but they didn't work for me

An OK romcon. Nice but not very exciting. It was interesting but not gripping. I wasn't hooked but it was an OK read.

I LOVE the ‘one night only’ trope in books, it just does something to my heart! This book was no exception! The characters were well-rounded and really loveable, the storyline was enjoyable and as a lover of Edinburgh, the way the setting is described made me so happy!

A fascinating romance focusing on the flaws of the characters. Wonderfully written and so addictive!

What an interesting and thought provoking rom-com. The author does well to give context on a unique situation.
Great read, highly recommend.
Thanks #netgalley for the advanced copy.

Okay this review is hard to write. I enjoyed a few things throughout this book, and I adored how it came full circle. But to be honest, I often found myself waiting for the chapters to be over and the book to end for most of it.
I didn’t even really get into it until I was at 70%. And that’s disappointing for me. I wasn’t all that attached to the characters, although I loved their individuality and the sass between them. You could really tell they were friends and how much they cared about each other.
But I did not enjoy the moments with Steph’s family. They honestly sucked, aside from Mikey, and I didn’t feel like their “changes” in the end were all that genuine. That growth to me didn’t feel that complete yet, just something that needed to happen for the story to end, so therefore it did.
I loved Jamie, though. And I did like the way that their relationship progressed through all of their obstacles. And I loved how his personal story made the entire story come full circle and it really explained so many things about him. And I really didn’t consider the “truth” to be his reality, although all the signs were there.
Despite liking the moments with him and Steph, I didn’t really get as much romance as I would have liked. And to be honest, I felt like the story was more about Steph herself and her relationship with herself and her friends. But maybe that was the point…?
Overall, I think it was a well rounded journey. Just a bit lacking for me personally. However, I would enjoy reading more from this author in the future. And I thoroughly enjoyed all the European touches and felt truly immersed, like I was in Scotland myself.

I got to a certain point in this story and wondered where it was going to go from there. Believe me, it wasn’t in the direction I expected!
Steph is certainly determined. She has found a man who she has a deep connection with, but loses him within a few hours, and so begins her outrageous attempts to find him again. When she does, I assumed it was story over, but with half of the novel still to go, the author had a few surprises up her inky sleeve.
A love interest, combined with a mystery, a couple of very supportive friends and a horrid family, and this book provides some darned good entertainment. Not only that, it's got all the uplifting and heartwarming feels you could want.

Such a great romcom and in Edinburgh! Second changes, mango and lime beer, and shenanigans! That is this book in a nutshell. Great book to pick up and finish in a weekend.

Thanks to #NetGalley for providing me with an eArc in return for a fair review.
This was a interesting romance novel, attempting to address some real social issues.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
The start of the book set the scene for heartbroken Steph, losing her best friend and long-standing partner on an important calendar date. The scenes of Edinburgh on Hogmanay sounded realistic although the behaviour of the young people is not how I have ever behaved (drinking to excess). I liked Steph's efforts to track Jamie down but thought the middle of the book dragged a bit. The final part of the book, and Steph's interactions with her family seemed rather unrealistic to me - I thought Steph was rather judgemental. This made my rating average rather than 4 star.

I've never read a Nina Kaye book before, but I adored this book. I'm a sucker for anything Scotland related and this book had it all! I would highly recommend to anyone who wishes they were in Scotland at least three times a week, and to anyone who believes in a little magic!
