I didn't like the main character and it lost me with all the focus on IG and influencers. I don't think this read was for me. Lost my attention at around 60%.

4.25 This book was an adorable romance that reminded me of the adult version of sisterhood of the traveling g pants. This story follows Millie a woman recently let go from her job that decides to take a break and go and visit her best friend at her small beach town that is full of picture perfect influencer. We follow Millie as she creates her own media following and tries to become an influencer as she reconnects with her past crush.

I loved this book it was really cute and I liked reading about the influencers and how much is staged. I also really thought this story was engaging I flew through this and really thought it was a fun cute romance. I also really loved the beach and surfer vibes really made me miss the beach. I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator she was easy to understand and very entertaining. I would like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.

This was such a cute story that grabbed my attention right from the start when I first saw the bright, fun cover.

FOUR WAYS TO WEAR A DRESS centers around a woman named Millie as she moves to California to figure out her life after being fired from her job at a marketing company.

It was refreshing to see representation for mental health and a character with ADHD, and I enjoyed the audiobook copy, narrated by Erika Schindale

This book was absolutely adorable and the narrator did an amazing job of allowing us to feel like we are really talking to our main character- or at least listening to her tell her story.

We get an inside look into many things - small businesses, online influencers, small towns, big cities - it’s all here - including the fake relationship trope. I am here for that completely! It was perfect.

The love story was so adorable and the small town momfluencer drama was ON POINT. I couldn’t believe that the vibes felt entirely authentic when it came to the way that mom groups operate and it sort of made me crazy while at the same time I really enjoyed sitting back and just watching the dumpster fire burn rather than being part of it.

And bless our child-free MC for her role in the middle of this momfluencer dramatic small town - cuz lord have mercy I wouldn’t have survived…and I have children.

I love that our main character has ADHD and tries to embrace it. I say tries because while she does embrace it she doesn’t pretend that it’s a non-issue. She’s fully aware that she struggles in ways that someone without ADHD doesn’t and it’s amazing. It feels like real human emotions which is so refreshing in both books and life.

I enjoyed this - I really did.

When the job fails start a blog, it’s a whole different world surrounded by bloggers and influencers. Most are struggling and aren’t really influencing much at the time of our arrival. Pete the best friends brother seems to be above the blogging but maybe into our wanna be blogger.

Pete is top notch on the fake boyfriend field - after spicy scene two I didn’t want her to leave him. I love the romance in this book, but really wasn’t sold on the story surrounding it.

Just a very fake set up these people have created for themselves. Drama to the max almost intentionally created by the characters, and the way they treated the one going through a divorce, beastly!!

A very sweet blooming romance with a friends to lovers trope. Surrounded by all the social drama you could ever want.

Thank you NetGalley and the author for my audiobook copy in exchange for my honest review.

I thought that this was a really sweet story following a womans journey with a dress. Good narration.

Yeah this one was pretty cute but very surface level. As a bookstagrammer I enjoyed all the silly Instagram/influencer moments. Definitely felt like a grown up sisterhood of the traveling pants focusing on just one FMC. Overall a fun read but not much to write home about

Gillian Libby's Four Ways to Wear a Dress is a refreshing take on the typical rom-com. Erika Schindele does an excellent narrating Millie's story. Millie is a struggling adult working towards being taken seriously while having ADHD and navigating the complex world of marketing. The book starts with Millie leaving New York to find her place after losing her job at a marketing firm. She makes her way to one of her best friends in California and makes it back to the love of her life, who just happens to be said best friend's brother. Adequately titled Four Ways to Wear a Dress, the book also centers a little black dress that she "stole" from Quincy and which the four best friends shared over the years. Historically, the girls all ended up with luck on their side while wearing the dress and hoped that it would also rub off on Millie this time around.

This was such a fun read! There was great character growth, the romance was fun and sweet, and the whole set up of the group of influencers was intriguing. I would definitely read another book if there ever was a series made. It was just the summer read I needed.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book!

When Millie Ward gets fired again, she decides to take up her best friend Quincy’s offer to join her for a while in Peacock Bay, California, known for its social influencers. It’s been too long since the women have seen each other, and if Millie gets to see Quincy’s brother Pete again, so much the better. Millie’s other best friends, Kate and Bree, discover the black dress the women wore in college and insist Millie take it along with her. A misunderstanding has Millie becoming a social influencer in her own right, and she convinces Pete that pretending to be her Instagram husband will help his family’s hotel. Millie’s Insta revolves around sharing her failures. Can she find a way to win Pete over for real?

I feel like the titular dress did not add anything to this story. I did like Millie and Pete, but I kept wanting them just to *talk* to each other. I have never paid any attention to social media influencers, and it was interesting seeing that life through this novel. I would say that overall, this was an enjoyable read but not a must read. Solid 3.5 stars

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an audio ARC of this book.

This book was really fun! It’s a snap shot of the current times. Businesses recovering from a very strange few years and the behind the scenes of instagram influencers. A perfect beach read!

Millie loses her marketing job in NYC and goes out to California to recharge where her best friend and long time crush live.

This was a 2.5 for me. One of the reasons was because of the dress. The dress that is in the title. It’s kind of a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants kind of idea - a dress that 4 friends shared in college always gave them good luck & Millie finds it in a box she almost throws out before she goes out to California. Of course, whenever she wears the dress, good things happen & she credits the dress. I will say that she’s at least skeptical, but this whole thing felt very unnecessary. I found myself rolling my eyes every time they talked about it because it seemed so out of place & like it just kind of got thrown in there.

The other thing I really struggled with was the language/dialogue. I’ not sure if it was unrealistic to me or if I just didn’t like how they were talking to each other. An example of this is when Pete and Millie are talking, Millie says f**k & Pete is like “whoa, cool it on the f-bombs”. If someone said that to me, I would be really annoyed for 2 reasons: 1. My language choices is no one else’s concern 2. (most importantly) It’s a weird thing to say. Like, how does one respond to that? Those are the types of interactions I had a very hard time with throughout the book.

What I did like was that this author tackled the issues of neurodivergence and social media authenticity. The more neurodivergence (ADHD in this case) can be represented, the more normalized it can become, the better our conversations about it can be, and the more we can understand where people are coming from. Similarly, the idea that social media is the “perfect” version of things rather than the reality is very real & I think is just now starting to change. The author did a wonderful job of showing the differences in the approaches to social media in the different Peacock Bay influencers.

I found the main character to be very annoying and I did not enjoy this story because of her.

I received an advanced copy. All thoughts are my own.

i listened to the audiobook of “four ways to wear a dress” and i thought the narrator did an excellent job of distinguishing all the characters from each other! even though the majority of them were female, i could instantly tell who was speaking based on how drawn out and how quickly the voices spoke. there are lots of leading women in this novel and they all have their share of personal obstacles. i felt like the plot dove too deep into each one and there was just a lot going on.

on another note, i admired how millie was courageous and ambitious enough to venture out of her comfort zone and travel to peacock bay but i wished she didn’t focus so much of her time on being an influencer. i thought she was missing so much of what the west cost had to offer her and spent every minute figuring out how to turn her latest mishap into a post. having said that, i loved the concept of millie and the girls’ dress. as someone who is always looking for a sign of luck, i adored how the friends used their shared piece of clothing to stay connected despite the miles that separate them

Fun story with a decent narrator. Small town(ish) with a lot of laughter and drama. learn that whats on the surface isn't always true. so many hidden details the characters learn.
