So three chapters (thought I was getting the whole book). Two lives, an unknown connection. From the early part a fascinating book but without reading the whole book I can't give five stars as I don't know how it will evolve!!

I thoroughly enjoyed the 3 chapters I received but wish I would've had more. They were very engaging and easy to read. Lately I've struggled getting into some books right away and that was not the case here. It saddens me to have to wait so long to read the entire book but I'm looking forward to it. Great writing from what I could see. Thanks NetGalley for the sample!

Thank you NetGalley and Head of Zeus for this sampler of Katastrophe by Graham Hurley to read and review. I cannot wait to read the entire book as this looks to be quite a thriller set in the last portion of WWII. I will also be looking for more to read by this talented author.

This was just a chapter sampler, and I got approved for the full book so I am going to give my true feedback when I finish the book.

Thanks!

What a very interesting Book the short chapters I read were pretty amazing and I liked it what I was reading and I liked it so much I might find a book to find out what really happened. It's an interesting how these 5 stories you're all around Russia and search but it's interesting inside how things can change so fast.

This book was just not for me. It went into vivid descriptions of life in a POW camp, what the prisoners had to go through to survive in graphic detail. From the description, I thought it would be more of an espionage thriller.

At first, I did not realize that this was only three chapters of the novel and I was sorely disappointed to discover this! The writing is beautiful and the storyline is so interesting; not simply a basic retelling of the final segment of WWII. Not only will I surely read this in the final, finished form, but I will pick up more of Hurley's work.

Looks like a winner!

I enjoyed this three-chapter sampler immensely—gripping stuff. I have already requested the full version. Fingers crossed!
My thanks to NetGalley and, as ever, Head of Zeus.

Katastrophe will no doubt be quite a thrilling book when complete. The opening chapter introduces Werner Neumann a former propagandist for Joseph Goebbels who’s barely surviving life in a Russian Gulag having been captured in the battle for Stalingrad. His fortunes change when the Russians decide he could be of use to them negotiating with the Nazis in Berlin. Meanwhile in London we meet a Major Moncrief who was a member of the US delegation at the Yalta summit and someone who has a close relationship with Winston Churchill. Moncrief and Neumann have previous history and Churchill appears to suspect Russia are using Neumann to open communication channels with Goebbles possibly with the purpose of driving a wedge between the Americans and the British. Churchill wants Moncrief to reconnect with his old friend and find out what’s going on.
I can’t wait to read the rest of the book!
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for access to this sampler.

Although this is merely a short sampler, it’s clear that Graham Hurley’s “Katastrophe” will be a brutal, hard-hitting thriller set during the last years of WWII.
Opening with a visceral depiction of life in a Russian POW labour camp, we are introduced to the main character Werner Nehmann, Goebbels former confidant, who is tasked with broker a deal between Stalin and the Nazis, and other characters, including Winston Churchill himself.
The concept is original and Hurley’s writing is earthy and lucid; I will definitely look out for the full book when it’s published.

I have read all the others in this captivating series and look forward to reading the entire book rather than just the opening three chapters which were well up to standard and a good teaser.
