Great thriller and had me at the edge of my seat the entire time. I couldn't put this book down and wish the ending had been different.

I have enjoyed some of B.A. Paris' past books and was excited to pick up The Prisoner. It was a wild ride, and I enjoyed the fast-paced storytelling. However, there were quite a few attributes that made it just an ok read for me. First, there were too many characters and they lacked development. I had trouble remembering who was who, especially the men involved in the kidnapping plot. I found Amelie to be way too naive and trusting, and you had to suspend disbelief to imagine her putting all of the pieces together of her kidnapping and Ned's shady behavior. Still, it was a fun and quick read!

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Try as I might, this one just wasn't for me. I absolutely love historical fiction but the writing in this one was just so dry that I couldn't find a reason to continue reading. I DNFed at 31% and that was after downloading the audiobook as well.

A woman is kidnapped and held prisoner and she has no idea why. This is a fast-paced psychological thriller with a lot of tension and an abundance of twists.

This one held my attention on audio and I was enjoying it until the end. The end seemed like a really weird way to wrap it up and it seemed like an odd reasoning behind it all

Sadly, only 2 stars for this one. I really wanted to love it but the storyline was just lacking for me. It hooked me in at first but then it went downhill pretty fast after. I found the book to be hard to follow and wasn’t able to stay super engaged. It was okay overall, but not as great as I had hoped.

Thank you, St. Martin’s Press, and Net Galley for a gifted copy in return for my honest review.

I've enjoyed other books by this author, but this one fell short and didn't provide the character development or plot that I enjoyed. In the present, Amelie and her husband Ned have been kidnapped and held for ransom.
The story lacked momentum for me and often went back and forth between past and present that I easily lost interest.

B.A. Paris does it again with a knockout thriller. Married into a family with deep dark secrets, Amelie finds herself waking in a black out room wondering whether she feels safer there or in her bedroom with her husband.

Paris gives us a story of twists and turns and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

Sharing to Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Awaiting pending approval.

I had the pleasure of receiving a complimentary copy of 'The Prisoner' by B A Paris from NetGalley in exchange for my review, and I must say, this book is a true masterpiece in the thriller genre. B A Paris has outdone herself, delivering a novel that is both riveting and suspenseful from start to finish.

'The Prisoner' plunges the reader into a dark, twisting narrative that holds you captive just as much as its protagonist. Paris’s skill in crafting a story that is both complex and compelling is evident on every page. The plot is intricately woven, with each chapter adding a new layer of intrigue and suspense. The pacing is perfect, keeping you on the edge of your seat, eager to unravel the next twist.

What makes 'The Prisoner' stand out is its deep psychological insight. Paris delves into the minds of her characters, revealing their fears, hopes, and inner turmoil. The protagonist's journey is not just a physical one, but an emotional and psychological battle. The depth of character development is remarkable, making the story not just about the circumstances but also about the human condition.

The writing style of B A Paris is flawless - crisp, clear, and vivid. Her ability to create a tense atmosphere and maintain it throughout the novel is nothing short of brilliant. The descriptions are so vivid that you feel as though you are there, experiencing the protagonist's ordeal firsthand.

As a fan of thrillers, I have read many, but 'The Prisoner' stands out for its originality and masterful storytelling. It’s a book that not only entertains but also makes you think, pondering the extents of human resilience and the complexities of the mind.

In conclusion, 'The Prisoner' by B A Paris is a must-read for anyone who loves a good thriller. It’s a five-star novel that is both thrilling and thought-provoking. I highly recommend it to readers looking for a book that is as intellectually engaging as it is unputdownable. Thank you, NetGalley and B A Paris, for this unforgettable reading experience.

I did not love this. Started out strange in the storyline and was hard to follow. I’m a fan of hers as well but this book was not a good fit. I know other readers enjoyed this one but it was more of a movie than a book .

The Prisoner is a tale of a woman who becomes entangled in a dangerous game of the rich Ned Hawthorne. Amelie struggled to make a life for herself after the death of her father when she was young. Just as she begins to believe she is making it in London, Ned pulls her into a marriage of convenience plan that sets in motion a twisting tale of revenge amongst the wealthy. Overall, Paris tried to do too much with the plot. There were a lot of threads that were never fully realized and the lack of character development left me feeling little.

As usual, Paris shines with her latest psychological thriller. THE PRISONER gives twists, turns, and enough suspense to keep the reader flipping the pages. I continue to love the characters the author creates and the wonderfully plotted narratives she delivers.

I've read several books by this author, and this is by far my least favorite. I really struggled to stay engaged with this main character, and I found the ending to be pretty ridiculous. Definitely a big miss for me.

I really struggled to get into this book or to have any interest in it. Not my favorite by this author by any means.

I have read and loved almost all of the books by BA Paris, but sadly this one ranks at the bottom for me. There were parts that were enjoyable but the writing was very slow. There were chapters that unfortunately didn't have much substance to them. It just didn't read like the usual writing style of BA Paris for some reason.

BA Paris can do no wrong in my eyes. No matter what she writes, I will always want to read it. Not all of her books are 5 stars, but most are. This one is no different. Definitely loved this twisty novel!

Thank you netgalley and publisher for opportunity to read and review this arc honestly. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. For this novel, it grabs you immediately and just pulls you in. The timeline will jump from present to (recent) past and flows so easily and makes you feel like you're part of the story and invested in the characters. Thoroughly enjoyed the book and can't wait for Paris' next novel.

This was such a good book! I read it in one sitting. The twists and turns, I did not see coming. I would definitely recommend this book!

I discovered B A Paris years ago and have become a faithful follower. Honestly, I see her as the James Patterson of thrillers, and I mean that in the most complimentary of ways. Her novels incorporate simple language, short chapters, and a fast-paced plot to bring the reader to a satisfying end. The Prisoner is no exception. All is not as it seems, our protagonist, Amelia, has gotten in over her head. Kidnapped and help in a pitch black room, we learn the backstory of how she arrived and begin to form our own theories. The Prisoner will keep you guessing, and hoping, to the final page!

This one was a miss for me. The book started off fast paced and exciting, however, as the story continued I really felt no connection with any of the characters. I did love that the chapters were short. The last several books by B.A. Paris have definitely been hit or miss.
